One for the evening crowd perhaps. Can anyone recommend a particular model of carrier?

That’s useful and more or less what I was thinking. Also I think the overprotective parent might prefer it that way.

    Anyone else?

I saw you come off it a couple of times on the first couple of laps but I guess you got the hang of it pretty soon after that. Great result.

Good, cheers Drac. I’m about to leave the office and hope to get a lap or two in later. Wet here in Swansea.

The entry list looks pretty damn quick to me.

How difficult are they to fit yourself? Strikes me as something you could do easily with a bit of research as surely they connect up in a pretty straightforward manner and if so what price can you get panels for? Or is it set up so that only registered companies can register for the FIT tariffs or whatever they are. Just all seems a bit like a modern day version of the double glazing cowboy boom in the 80’s with the same promises of saving a fortune on bills and hard selling techniques. I might be wrong but wouldn’t mind knowing if its actually possible to do yourself and miss out the middleman

You can in theory fit the panels yourself but you still need to get an MCS qualified installer to sign off the installation in order to claim the FIT.

Your analogy about double-glazing sales techniques is a fair reflection of the situation in 2011/2012 when the tariffs were higher and a lot of dodgy installers flooded the market. Now things have quietened down a lot and it is mainly the decent installers that are left. Always look for an installer with a good track record and some testimonials.

Interestingly the capital cost of the equipment has fallen in line with the FIT rates, so return on investment percentages have remained the same (but obviously net cash return is reduced). With rising electricity prices, they are a good bet.

    I got an answer!

After the widely acknowledged success of the mountain bike races at the London 2012 Olympics, have you changed your stance on mountain bike racing?

    Philliggett

    @Jonny
J Williams – Hi, Jonny. Really, I have always loved MTB-ing. Have two bikes myself. You are right, the London Olympic MTB races were the best and the legacy is a great course. These were, however, the exception to some pretty boring races since inception in 1996. However, all types of cycling has now made the Games, and I am certainly not a vote against that!

Building and construction are different – especially if you’re involved in civils.

But I work in a modern office build, designed to BREEAM Excellent and the standard of the construction is pretty damn poor. I can see gaps between the window frame and the window unit, and in the basement there are problems with the concrete and water ingress. Really shoddy construction/builders/subbies/designers/client – see circle of blame below:

I really enjoyed the racing and the event. Nice low key feel to it – just sign on, burger van, energy drinks and gel truck – but really high standard of racing.

It was the first time I’ve done any racing in the south east so wasn’t really sure what to expect. The course was fairly flat as expected but a lot more fun and quite technical in places. I found it surprisingly tough – no big descents on which to rest! Must have been 70% singletrack but still managed to have loads of passing places – very well done to the organisers.

Very impressed by the likes of Gee, Ant White and the singular guy, nailing consistently mega quick laps.

I also dropped my chain on the first lap and then went wrong on my 2nd lap, but after that settled down well and did the 7 laps in 7’15” to finish 29th. Happy enough with this mid pack finish.

    cheers

Looks promising but also needs a good few years of development.

Questions for domestic use (e.g. with solar): cost, energy density, size, longevity, fire risk, charging time.

I’ve entered the 7 lap one and also don’t know the course. Description on the website says short sharp climbs but quite fast.

Wasn’t Alonso on the original list that was released – only to be removed a day or so later after an alleged massive payment? I was told this by a Dutch man on a bike so it must be true.

For endurance reading I’m been working my way through the Rebus series.

Cycling wise, Tyler Hamilton’s book is impressive (on endurance and doping), but also some of the older books by Tommy Simpson or even Paul Kimmage (Rough Ride) are interesting from an endurance point of view.

Was a bit like that in the cafe at Glyncorrwg today. Lots of big bikes and lads in loads of pads.

Mind you we looked a bit funny as my mate was wearing a pink helly hansen thermal and was near hypothermic. (lots of snow of top of the skyline)

Yes and the sealant will seep through the sidewalls initially but don’t worry about that as it calms down after a bit.
