I have done, but not religiously as I don’t suffer from chaffing even on long rides
    Got the ASOSS stuff

I’m 5’6 and have a 29er, my wife is 5’3 and also uses my bike on occasion (though a little big, her longer legs help and she prefers it for longer distance and hills)

OK its decided, even though its not as good deal on paper, im going for the canyon and will upgrade the wheels to some carbon jobbies

Note: this may not be legit!!

but hypothetically make some extra money by offering your day job services privately on sites like 5 squid.com

if your fortunate to have a job that allows you to do this during your working day (on breaks obviously) you can make a tidy sum

eg architect, cad design, Photoshop work

time and tools/software are paid for already and income is tax free

money is all payed directly into your paypal (Black ops fund) so no need to bother the other half with those silly little bike related purchases

its a fair point Al, buying off a spreadsheet does not offer the chance to assess the feel/compliance and that’s the area you do need to turn to the reviews and forums for unless you can get a long test ride.

and ‘feel’/comfort is one of the reasons the canyon is on my short list as it’s reported to have an excellent comfort factor

Thanks Al that’s good to know

As for buying without a ride, its a fair point but the savings and opportunity to send it back are worth it for me

TBH every bike ive bought even from bike shops ive not had a proper test ride (i mean a good day or two), just the car park ride around or a short test track which i personally find it hard to judge by in either case as each new bike takes some getting used too.

that said ive been very happy with most of my purchases be it online or through a shop

but more to the point i still cant decide what to buy !!! HELP !!!

but i did just buy a Moda intro for my turbo trainer ….

Just a little bump to see if anyone else can help sway my decision

sat here with two shopping carts open hovering over each checkout button

is the canyon worth £700 more ?

    Thanks Gents(i assume)

I must admit all things being equal id plump for the canyon, but that Rose just seems like a bargain in comparison! which does not seem right to me as the canyons are normally good VFM so i assumed i was missing something :s

ive had a look at the wattbike and whilst it does collect a lot of data you still have to manually control the resistance so you cant set up a hill circuit or upload a GPS file to ride and compete on or benchmark yourself

i wish wahoo did a full bike as well as a turbo !

the only other bike ive found is this http://www.pelotoncycle.com/
    buts its not available yet

Yes still thinking that a wahoo and a steel framed fixi with no brakes is possible but the only disadvantage is its not as adjustable for different riders as a dedicated excercise bike.

Just checked mine (NCR18650B 3400mah) and they are protected so £8.75 each seems ok now

I have 2 ssx2’s and a mate has a couple all XM-L2 and yes my single Cree T’s from last year all have brighter hot spots (throw) but the x2 does have more flood

I personally prefer the flood as now I don’t have hot spots dancing around as I ride

Has anyone tried the MJ880 XM-L2 version ? I was just going to get another x2 but now I’m thinking of the magicshine

I’ve got an X2 and an MJ880 and much prefer the X2 it’s a better beam pattern for me and noticeably more light

I think you have to be carful with the X2 though as many peeps have pointed out thier are plenty of fakes and several different types of LED’s (mines the XM-L2 U2)

So I guess the Magic shine is the safer bet for sure especially on the battery front, personnally I only use good single cells in holders and charged separately, but the torchy option is also spot on.

    Cheers for the advice guys

I have an Auris booked for a weeks test drive
I shall take a look at the insignia

I do not tow but I do fit a tow bar for my bike rack, so I’ll have to check if that’s ok on the Auris

My commute is mainly motorway on the way in 20mins blast, but takes 40mins of stop stating on the way back due to traffic on the way back due to traffic

Matt outandabout – I get a company car because I carry has cylinders and PPE for work, but I do have the option of a £350 a month car allowance to provide my own

You can also ask for them with a sealed rim bed if you fancy going tubless

They are Hutchinson secteur 28mm on farsport carbon wide 38mm rims with sealed bed & set up tubless with a small splosh of orange seal.

Feel is more comfortable especially in fast downhill bumpy sections wich in turn allows me to carry more speed, I don’t notice any loss in speed on flats or uphill ( Strava agrees) so for me it’s all good at the moment.

I have a set in my 29er with Kojacks run at 80psi, iv rode a fair bit of CYB, farm tracks, fire road & Llandegla, on them and had no punctures, done around 1000 miles now and no issues, very impressed

Also have the eclipse specific repair kit which is unused

Reviews do appear hit and miss so either eclipse have upped their game or I just got lucky

Ya pays yer money ya takes yer chance

I use Eclipse tubes when I’m not running tubless (kojacks on my spare wheels) had no issues nice and light though a bit expensive I guess.

Some great skills in this thread, we need a Kudos button !

I just run a standard Black ops fund, syphone money into an secret account to pay bills that dont really exist (like that 50k I owe my father, he used to owe his father and the legacy will continue with my son when he comes of age)

    SOP’s
    – Always keep the balance by leaving some receipts around for low value sale items
    – Buy stuff from china then leave the delivery note out ( my recent 1K spend on carbon bits shows 50USD)
    – If you do tell your other half the price always discount it by 50% then you never forget or get caught out when they ask you again in a few months (she still thinks 2.5K on a bike is ridiculous though)
    – buy items in the same colour scheme to avoid detection (iv been wearing the sameSPD’s for 10years ;)
