or is it just CC fraud?
IIRC it was claimed to be this yeah. COC should set alarm bells ringing anyway.CC theft seems to make sense, but why Canyons? are they easy to scam? less checks? surly you could buy anything from CRC ect
as for COC that just says to me that the bike is real and the seller wants to avoid PP fees which is fair enough
wompFree MemberAre you HM Revenue & Customs?
No, but id prefer to know the background of a bike so i don’t accidentally contribute the bike theft industry.
wompFree MemberPeople ordering bikes and them taking so long they have bought something else?
Why sell them at a knock down price rather than just cancel the order ?
wompFree Memberwomp: I may have a spare one if you can wait to the weekend
Hi, thanks, that would be great, I’m in no rush, I’m happy to pay postage. How can I send you my address?
Sent you an email
wompFree MemberCheers for the advice, I’m going to scrap the salt idea then and go with a combination of …
Drill hole in root fill with the most expensive weed killer you can find and cork the hole. Filling your garden full of salt is a bad idea.
dig on your side n expose roots, cut roots and knock in a length of copper pipe, bury roots n wait.
Drill hole and insert a concentrated systemic herbicide like glyphosate (round-up) into it daily.
I would install a tube from behind your fence diagonally downwards into the center of the root mass, and just top-it-up with some sort of strong herbicide every day.
Approaching the landlords or Gardner is not an option, the neighbours have already tried that approach.
wompFree MemberI made my own extension leads and Y splits so I can run two lights from one pack
wompFree MemberI’ve been on blue peter, whilst waiting to go on set and talk to Liz (the fit one) when my mate leans across and whispers “check out the arse on that, I’d break her back” the presenters including Liz all look over …..I was wearing I mic 😳
I’ve kissed Sarah Cox in a nightclub
I’ve beat James Tosland in motorbike race (he beat me every other time though)
wompFree Memberto bring the thread to conclusion ….
compromised reached
25% deposit taken upfront from net pay (to cover damage/loss of the equipment)
75% of the purchace price taken as Salary sacrifice rental
maximum of 6months hireat the end of the hire, either
the equipment will be returned and the company will refund the deposit
the equipment will be sold at FMV (25%)** if the sale is to the person who made the deposit then the FMV fee will be deemed as already paid and no deposit refunded
so savings have been reduced from 42% to 31.5% but you do own the bike at the end
wompFree MemberLooks like the group consumer credit licence is no more and most companies are no longer restricted to £1000
wompFree Memberare contractors eligible to join an employers C2W scheme?
surely it goes against the rules of being a contractor
We have two types of contractors, limited company and PAYE my understanding is that the PAYE contractors are eligible. im sure the scheme is open to those that the company makes NI contributions ?
wompFree Memberi thought it could be any duration any cost ?
to answer my own question, yes it can any duration and any cost……
‘There is no limit on the total value of the equipment including the cycle’
‘There is no fixed time period for which cycles and cyclists’ safety equipment must be loaned under a Cycle to Work scheme’
wompFree MemberIs there any union representation in the workplace?
No, unfortunately not, we have 27 office in the UK with 1000 employees
They have to put up with the cost of recovering the old debt if someone leaves, they can’t demand payment up front. She’d be better off knocking it on the head. Although I don’t see why it would be an issue as given the scheme maxes out at £1000 the chances of anybody earning less in their final pay packet than the outstanding debt would be fairly slim, part timers excepted
looks as though she will not accept any risk no matter how small so yes i fear it may be cancelled, in which case id go with money upfront rather than nothing
I’d agree with a minimum time period though, I’d say minimum 1 year or at least until off probation. Would be bad business sense to just start chucking benefits around to people who are unproven.
can you do this though ?
HMRC LINK
Examples of exclusions from cycle provision that would prevent the exemption from applying include the following:Exclusion of temporary employees (except for where periods of employment are very short or casual as outlined above)
Exclusion of employees simply because they are in their probationary periodBum her dog. That’ll show her your not be mest with.
before or after i kick her in the fanny ?
Is your scheme limited to £1000?
Surely they can just deduct any outstanding dept from the final pay packet
no its open to any amount, any retailerit was suggested that we limit the amount to the available final salary, im not sure if this effects the availability clause ?
It is not a loan!
bad choice of words, hire charge ?
I think your company has some cash flow difficulties – and or is planning some major job losses and she’s not being upfront.
Or does she have a very large number of zero hours / casual staff etc? I can see how it could be an issue if you ran a restraunt or bar with lots of staff only working a few nights a week.certainly no cashflow issues, id be 99% certain that we have no organisational changes pending, we do have a lot of PAYE contractors though many have been with us for long periods
For balance – if you paid for the bike up front then the employer wouldn’t be “holding on” to that money as they have to pay for the bike.
Where rental payments are made via salary sacrifice, there is a cashflow hit to the employer as they pay for the bike in full up front and only then recover that cost over (usually) 12 months.
Obviously there is a NI saving to the employer, plus all the advantages of having a healthy/engaged/motivated workforce etc. But I can’t understand why you’d feel that an employer was “holding on to” or benefiting from your money if you paid up front given the cost of purchasing the bike.
whether the employer is benefiting from holding payments seems to split opinions on here does anyone have any firm evidence one way or the other ?
I haven’t read the rules recently but I thought for tax purposes it had to legally be over at least 12 months.
i thought it could be any duration any cost ?
wompFree MemberYes she is just awkward/fat/on a power trip
That said we still need to convince her to keep the scheme going in some form
Anyone one know of any stats on how many companies participate ?
wompFree MemberAny other suggestions that I can give the FD to limit her risk ?
She also want to only make it available to employee that have been with the company over a year, Im sure that is not possible
wompFree MemberChestrockwell- interesting point but would the company be deemed to be benefiting if an agreement is in place ?
wompFree MemberShe knows that money can be legally recovered from the employee if they leave but if the final salary deduction is not enough then the she believes the administration effort to recover cost or the cycle is to great
wompFree Memberyes insoles would probably be a little more convenient but im guessing the socks would give a better coverage
Thanks for the link to the socks i shall try those
wompFree Memberi suffer with Raynaud’s within 30mins im extremely uncomfortable and within an hour i can be in crippling pain 🙁
i currently use Northwave artic boots a size and a half bigger with mavic inner socks and woolie boolie socks, i also put shoecovers on with the tops tucked into my tights which keeps my feet dry 90% of the time
i think im at the limit of what i can achieve withough using some sort of heating
Cookeaa – ive tried those inside my boots on my forefoot but my toes still froze, i do use them in my gloves inbetween my inner and outglove but am also considering heated gloves (hands are a little easier to deal with as i can stop and use chemical handwarmers or shove them down my crotch)
thisisnotaspoon- you can power them both with an external battery
wompFree MemberI use northwave artic 1 size bigger, woolie boolie socks, knee length sealskins and chemical heat pads…..My feet still freeze and its crippling, this year I’m going to try some heated insoles
wompFree Memberyes modeling and rendering sorry
i did look at the sketchup and Vray but some comments online seem to point to it being a bit limited ?
After a little google 3ds max seems to get a few mentions but i must admit im struggling to navigate the autodesk site and make sense o all the products ?
3ds max, 3ds max design, alias ?i will take a look at Artlantis, thank you
cost is not a concern
wompFree MemberThey do both models in red
Reynolds review here link[/url]
Im not convinced on the integrated bar, well not until you are 100% sure of the stem length required
bars / stems
And then you can’t attach tri bars also garmin and light mounting options may also be limited, does look great thoughCarbon brakes are shit but Its the only way to get strong lightweight aero wheels, maybe we will see a hydro disc brake option next year
wompFree MemberI may be better saving the £300 and putting it towards a set of wide farsports or just get the 8.0 and sell the integrated bar/stem to Dirtyrider for £300 🙂
wompFree MemberI think Bird should make an electric bike so I can piss people off on Strava
wompFree MemberThanks CHB I’m after a new Full suss 140mm+ which all seem to be Bosch or Yamaha motors, appreciate the offer though.
I’ve spoke to on yer bike and they have a haibike in stock, wich I’ll look at this weekend
I think the shop on the A6 is juicy bikes which are more commuter focused
Looks like all the big electric bike shops are down south 🙁
wompFree MemberGadgets are always in budget 🙂 I do intend to get a power meter in the new year, but I’ve not really started looking at the options yet.
I also have a Kickr collecting dust that I intend to do some benchmarking on
wompFree MemberCheers for the link I’ll have a play with that once the kids are in bed
My only real reference point for performance at the moment is a 52.8 miles in 2.25 on the road bike with normal helmet, Ksyrium wheels, 900ft with a few slow sections, felt a comfortable pace
All my other rides are to broken up to gain any meaningful data to judge an ironman distance ride (Though I have done plenty of big rides mind)
wompFree MemberThis is a great thread 🙂
Can I just throw this article in the mix
aero effect for fast vs slow riders
It concludes that aero does give a greater overall time advantage for a slower rider over a fixed distance, so maybe aero is just as important for all of us 🙂
wompFree MemberThanks all, decision made a Canyon Aeroad SLX It is
Just a thought ….. Would Aero performance not make a bigger difference to a slower rider as they would spend more time in the wind over the course distance ?
wompFree MemberThanks guys, this thread as given me more to think about than I thought and made the decision harder …CHEERS!
Thanks for the info on wetsuits I’ll do my research before buying and won’t skimp.
So as for my priorities, my first love is road riding and setting PR’s, I currently have a Canyon CF SLX so that’s my benchmark for a road bike, the Triathlons are new to me and I only have one goal which is to complete the bolton ironman in under 13hrs (but I realise every second counts, the lads did it this year and one missed the 13hr goal by about 5mins)
I have a friend selling a canyon speedmax With DA Di2 for 3.5K so that’s an option but it means selling my SLX and getting a cheap road bike (I’m not sure I can emotionally cope with that)
As suggested the other alternative is getting an aero road bike and use it for both disciplines, I’d not really considered this before (I’m not sure why)
So If I changed the original question a little….. 2k tri bike or 4K aero bike decked out for tri duties (tri bars with Di2 shifters, deep wheels, saddle, bike fit)?
To explore this option further……I was a little smitten with the 2015 Canyon Aeroad SLX when I first saw it and I’m sure I’d have no problem using as a road bike, I spend most of my riding time in the drops, I’ve got climbing wheels and its within a few grams of my current road bike and may actually be a better bike for some events.
The Aeroad correspond to the top tube length of the next size up on the Ultimate CF SLX.
I ride an XS Ultimate so not sure if I’d stick with XS or go XXS?The link below shows the geometry difference in pictures between the ultimate and the aeroad
canyon frame geoI’m also thinking that I’d likely do more tri training on an aero bike (in tri set up) than on a dedicated tri bike as I can use it for group rides.
The Aeroad does have an integrated cockpit wich I assume I’ll need to ditch for a conventional set up to fit tri bars ?
The aeroad should be lighter than a 2k tri bike and the bolton ironman is hilly (for an ironman distance) so maybe the weight advantage will counter any aero disadvantage?
Sorry for the rambling I’m just thinking out loud 🙂
Ok a just few more quick questions then I’ll shut up.
1. Will all clip on tri bars accept Di2 shifters?
2. I assume Is this the type of shifter people are referring to?
Di2 tri shifters
3. Will the canyon aeroad take a 25mm tyre ?
4. Will the Aeroad seatpost offer enough adjustment to make use of the tri bars ?wompFree MemberThey are standard farsport 38mm but with a sealed rim bed, I’m not sure how well rim tape works at road pressures as I’ve only ever used sealed beds
wompFree MemberSchwalbe ones 25mm on farsport carbon rims, no issues, feel great, excellent grip – best set up I’ve had
also had the Hutchinson 28mm and 25mm also no issues but certainly feel heavier than the ones and the 25mm are actually 23mm, the 28mm are awesome descending in the dry on rough terrain through corners.
wompFree MemberJamie i also cant see the 1kg difference in the bikes,
ive added both bikes to the cart and With P&P added the canyon works out £83 more expensive, but the Canyon has better wheels (£150 prem) and suspension seat post (£150 prem) so on paper its a no brainer so its just dempends if you prefer white or red.
wompFree MemberHad this same dilemma myself and ended up ordering the cube then cancelling it when I saw the Rose (I like white) but now in swaying to the canyon (but I’m not crazy about the colour) after being told the Rose is 9,8kg so both the cube and Rose are 1 Kg heavier than the Canyon if claimed weight it anything to go by, it’s a shame the Rose does not have any configuration options as it would be nice to upgrade the wheels but then I guess that would still not help as the Canyon would still be better VFM
