    Looks like the canyon is the bench mark at the moment

    What do you think of this in comparison ?

    Cheers again guys, iv still not made a decision but I’m getting their, looks like I have a long week of googling and bike shop trips

    Excellent idea getting a winter wheelset never thought of that, although I do have the mountain bike or Triban to fall back on

    Must admit those enigmas look do look cool and the canyon Aeroad is certainly an option just a shame Udi2 is only on the lower spec models

    Also I do take on board spending 3k (or less if I can) on a road bike is a big commitment but it’s not my first bike and certainly wont be my most expensive,  it’s just that I want to take road cycling a little more serious having rode my Triban for the past 2 years with lads that have have slowly progressed to better machines, I just want to level the playing field a little :) , having rode a couple of decent canyons and a Trek I totally appreciate how much faster (as verified by strava) a good bike is.

    Ps swaying back to UDI2 because I’m a sucker for gadgets

    Thanks for all the advice guys

    I will be using the bike for recreational rides, we generally do between 30 and 50 mile but it always ends up a race and strava bragging times are a must so I’m definitely looking for fast/light before comfort or brand names

    Those Dolan look very interesting (I’ve not looked at ribble yet) and I’ve also looked at rose

    Reading the comments I’m edging towards ultegra mech (though I’d love di2 I’m now not sure it’s worth the weight penalty and extra cost that could be spent elsewhere?) carbon frame, light wheels and finishing kit, I’m happy with a 2012 to keep the cost down

    The search continues……

    Morning all, thanks for the help so far, today is payday and im getting giddy about buying some new wheels, the problem is iv still not made a decision!

    – ENVE seem the safe but expensive option
    – light cycles the cheap and cheerful
    – Strada seem a happy medium but are they worth 500 more than the light cycles(excellent build, offset spokes)
    – Sram rise have a good review but I think are a little to robust/heavy for my needs

    can any one else give me a last minute steer ?

    Iv just had to buy my wife a cheap car so I could afford some new wheels, needs must though hey

    Yes I was trying to work out if the strada are light cycles but if they are it looks like they are slightly modified so I guess you have to decide if that plus the UK back up is work the difference

    The £900 for the light wheels was just the rim plus DT Swiss hubs decent spokes and a wheel build

    Gary: Fulcrum are tubular that makes sense now durrrrr

    Yeh the light bikes rims seem to get good reviews, so if Strada are using a variant of them then its certainly no bad thing

    Thanks to everyone for the advice and pointing me in the right direction :)

    Point taken, im not adverse to looking at all options and would be intrested to see what the weight difference is if i dont use a solid well.
    Ok i know I’m in danger of getting to told to use the search button, but what would your ultimate light wheel be thats not a solid well but does have UST bead hook?

    I change tyres a lot so the solid well makes life a little easier when cleaning out sealant so I just prefer it

    Cheers for all the advice guys looks like easton are the lightest wheels that have a solid ‘rim well’.
    I just hope the 329g weight saving is worth the 2k price tag

    Hi

    Thanks for all your replies, really appreciate it

    SprocketJockey – the reason i want tubeless ready is errrr mmmmmm good point, i just fell back on TR as my default position as i have compatible rims and its what i have always used with no issues and never had a puncture/tear that has not sealed, id certainly have no wish to go back to tubes but guess i could try to seal some standard tyres.

    Stato – no not ridden the off sections before but had a look on Google maps and what i can see does look like well maintained canal path and it will be in a few months so hopefully dry, i agree it should be rideable on a slick tyre

    So iv narrowed it down to the following

    MTB :
    * Fred (360g, TR)
    * Smart Sam (435g)
    * Marathon mondial (760g 28×1.75/825g 28×2.00)

    Im sure they will all be fine on the limited off road sections so i guess i should be leaning towards to Mondial as the tread will be faster on the road? it just seems heavy! also are the sizes iv selected correct for a 29er and will it mount up tubeless ?
