Yes 2 weeks is right, I just went for my first ride after 2 weeks off and really struggled to stay with the pack :(

I dropped 438g on my wheels & tyres, did I notice a difference ? Yes (but only in the situation below), was it placebo ? Maybe
What I would say is that my ability to accelerate up climbs on a short sprint finish was most noticeable by me and my chums
Did it effect my strava times? No , certainly no dramatic increase in times that I can hang my hat on and say it was the wheels.
I echo what others have said about tyres , you could go buy some Furiouse Fred’s or similar but then they are a quicker tyre anyhow and may bias the results.
How about going the other way and sticking some motorcycle tyre weights on your current rims and seeing if you can feel a difference on your regular route ?
Alternatively if you just need convincing that buying a set of shiny new wheels is the right thing to do just ask this question on the weight weenie forum.

Simple… If you want light then a Ghost AMR 29 carbon, awesome XC/trail bike that goes up and down ohhhhh and they trounce the competition on VFM so if light is a criteria you can not lose!

If your not bothered about carbon and wanting to save some pounds (£) and add some pounds (lbs) then the canyon nerve 29 is is king

Certainly a candidate for 1×10 and a Stealth Reverb!

Agreed, does the carbon tallboy have stealth routing though ?

    Lol rocketdog

Seriously though check out the ghost it’s a grand cheaper than anything else and leaves you plenty of cash to upgrade the wheels or finishing kit nothing else comes close for VFM (unless you wait for the 2014 carbon canyon but that will be 10months away)

I ordered I a £5000 road bike for demo from Evans, when I turned up to test it they said I could only ride it on the car park so I packed up my stuff and went to a L(ish)BS and tested a few bikes all day on the local roads.

Topeak sidekick tool system for me, no rattle from tools and just enough space for 29er tube, Co2, mini first aid kit also have it on a Prologo seat which has a seat clip like the Fiizik which has the advantage of putting the bag tight against the seat away from the post so it does not interfere with my dropper

    It’s a 2013 2990

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mobile/MobileModels.aspx?ModelID=96852

The saddle goes up about another inch for climbs, but I do prefer a more sit up and beg position for general trail duties, it still climbs like a mountain goat though, being short and light I guess i don’t tend to effect the COG as much as a lurch.

Cheers, it’s a stealth so i routed the cable in near the head stock down the down tube via the btm bracket and up

It’s was a pain to do but the result is neat

They seem great, comfort and puncture protection was my key critera, iv only done around 600 miles on them with no issues, I ride pretty hard though rough roads and take in a few off road sections on route. Strava confirms they are as fast as my GP4000 on normal roads and faster on rough stuff (this may be due to me pushing harder as I’m not concerned about flats the same)

28mm tubeless here, I find them much more comfortable and faster over my local pot hole riddled roads, not sure if I would see any speed advantage on a smother road, but certainly faster in general for me.

I use kojak on my full sus 29er 700×35 is the only size I could get (bike discount de)

I use the them for road and dry off road aprox 300miles (mainly off road) no punctures yet!

I choose them over the marathon racer as reviews said they run faster and this was my priority

I’m using eclipse tubes at 85psi

I’m going for the wider rims, I was originally going to go for the narrow rims as they are lighter but after reading several very long threads on these rims it seems the wider rims are better with a tubless set up (LB also market the wide rims as tubless ready), I run RoRo 2.25 snakeskin with orange seal, also if you order make sure you request the new process rims

My opinion on hubs is Chris king / hope for excellent blingy hubs, 240’s for lighter well made not as blingy and cheaper

I’m still after recommendations for road hubs as I’m not well versed in roady components, what is the road version of the 240 hubs ? Eg light, well made, not silly expensive

Ok I’m ordering wheels today and I’m going for something a different than anything mentioned in the thread so far…

I’m ordering some light-bycycles rims for my 29er (to be built on 240 hubs)
So at the same time I’m going to order either a complete 24mm carbon wheelset with novatech hubs or just the rims and have them built up on different hubs.

The complete wheelset is a bit of a bargain they are light and have the bling factor just not sure about the hubs.

Should I go for a complete build or source different hubs and spokes ?

should i go for some semi slicks like…

I want something that rolls well but can stand up to some light off road

Did the link to the route work for everyone in the end ?

Cheers guys looks like shimano get some love and good point about the extra weight not being in the rim

Neej20 who did you use to build your wheels? (I’m also considering having some light bike rims on 240 hubs for the 29er so I could kill 2 birds and have 2 wheel sets built at the same time)

Ok sounds like road bike it is with some bigger sturdier tyres

Cheers guys, ill take a look at those, though I must say I’m still swaying towards UDI2
Also after being told off for not riding far enough I did my longest ride today of 82.2miles hopefully I can do my first 100 on the new bike :)

I Certainly have no issues with a second hand bike from eBay, I’ll be going to the bike shops this week to get a better idea of individual brand sizing but the canyon I rode was a 54 and felt fine, my triban is a 53 but a kona I rode today was a 56 (very short TT) , I’m 5″7 & 72kg

The supersix di2 is the new benchmark ,at £2400 it’s well under budget, reviews are good, and I’m struggling to find any negatives or anything with better VFM, the only thing I can’t find is the weight, it’s available in a 54 so I’ll try to track one down to sit on this week

Right it’s bike ride time :) this may be my last proper ride on the triban :(
