Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha I love it when a thread goes off piste 🙂

So I’ll try middle ring, front and rear first, see how that feels. I’ll promise to leave the shifters alone. Once I’m happy with my choice how do I work out what ratio it is when I set it up for real? I’m a complete numpty (muppet) so easy calculations only please 🙂

If it is as much fun to ride as the name suggests then it must be the best bike in the world 🙂

Nice bike! It’s perfect for crossing that kind of grassy terrain 😉

Is that a ‘Twister’ ironing board cover? 🙂

Yes, fitting is free and all prices include VAT.

I have my own good quality spanners, sockets, drivers etc What other tools would I need for a DIY build?

Thanks for all the interest and advice in this thread.

Wow toppers, thanks for the offer 🙂 Realistically, if I just bought the frame and forks, plus wheels with hubs, could a novice like myself realistically put the rest together without too much trouble? Is there a specific tool kit/box that I could buy to make the job a little less ham fisted?

Thanks fornthe advice and help so far. I like this idea of bargain hunting and self building 🙂

Ha Ha Whoops I forgot to say the frame and rigid forks are £440. I’ve toyed with the idea of singlespeed but I don’t think I’m fit enough.

I’ve never attempted to build a bike but would have a go. I lack tools and knowledge but would be prepared to try if it means saving a lot of money.

Would the amount of money saved be worth doing it myself?

What ratio would you reccommend Teacake? We are surrounded by commons and smallish hills here in womble land. There is the possibility of a move to Cape Town where the terrain is a bit more challenging than my current rides but I’m really liking the simplicity and retro look of a singlespeed.

I want to keep the spec within budget £1100 with a view to upgrading parts when more funds become available.

What a brilliant idea. I bet those people who have committed to single speed feel a bit silly now 😉

I think eBay favours the buyer if no resverve or ‘buy it now’ is set. I’ve seen some amazing bikes go for peanuts.

I’m thinking I might sell it as a complete bike but I’m not sure what to ask for it.

New bike = New bling 😀

Also you might want to help those on here by telling us what bike it is and it’s advertised location. Bike sales can happen quickly and I’d hate someone on here (or anywhere) to purchase stolen goods.

The bike is 4yrs old and the Hub is 2yrs old. £600 starting price (eBay). Just wondering
if I could do better and wait for a 2nd hand cotic/cove hj or if this bike is a steal?

At 16st I’ve piled on quite a bit of weight since my year off from cycling

I might need to get one of these instead of the Steel framed bike i’m hunting for

I like the idea of the P7 Just not sure how limited it would be with those forks n hub. At the moment it would be used regularly but over fairly gentle terrain. I would possibly think about upgrading the forks in the future should my escape from London plan work out and my riding terrain changes.

Just not sure about that hub though. I’m a complete virgin with modern bike tech and never seen an mtb with a hub like that.

This I why I love forums, especially this one. Thanks for the replys. I love the look of that singular hummingbird.

I’m looking for a hardtail that will be comfy for long days in the saddle, be happy banging around the streets as it is along singletrack, across fields, gravel roads etc. Not going to be doing any technical downhill, trail centres etc. I just want a fun bike that is happy to just do a bit of general (mild off roading) or pootling along on bike rides with the wife.

I have a Spesh Epic Comp that will either be used as a parts donor for a new frame or a sale to fund a complete bike purchase.

That C456 frame looks really good. I’ve always thought of carbon as being really stiff.

Thanks for the reply. I have had ally hardtails, pre 2003 GTs, a Giant and a Marin but found these too stiff, hence my Epic Comp purchase. Lovely bike and after 8yrs of owning one bike, I have realised I am totally out of touch with modern bikes 🙂
