Forgot to say, it’s a clown wheeled Swift 🙂

Thanks for all the input. My shiny bike syndrome is being focused on my own bike now. It’s almost like treating the wife to some sexy lingerie 🙂

Ah Thanks chaps. I really like my old girl, she has proven to be a very capable bike. I guess the braking, or lack of, is the big issue at the moment then her ride comfort/handling next. I got shiny bike syndrome earlier this year and was really lusting after a new bike but today, looking at my old girl, I still have a soft spot for her and thought a change of a few parts would be more beneficial. I’m not really good with the spanners so do you reckon swapping brakes and wheels etc is easy(ish) for a novice?

    What are your current steeds

I’ve got an old Spesh Epic (Brain) and love it but I can’t get the Singular Swift out of my head. I want a bike like that but can only afford £500 at the moment and my itch for a second fun bike needs scratching

£500 for a rigid steel frame (or ally) bike for a bit of light singletrack bashing? Mission impossible?

Ha ha you titty 🙂 I mean would you purchase a 2nd hand bike or more bling for your current steed(s)

Thanks for the replys. It mainly the cold and wet weather that makes riding difficult and uncomfortable for me. I shall invest in some good quality shorts for starters and the rest will follow when funds allow. Do you recommend buying online, if so what sites do you use, or a trip to the lbs to see what’s available

Ha Ha No I’m not hinting at a personal purchase regret, Its a question that crossed my mind tonight while doing a bit of online window shopping.

They are an alternative. Just like walking everywhere with your winky hanging out is an alternative to wearing clothes.

    😆

And you don’t feel like you’re wrists/ass have been beaten up after a ride out?

I really like the look of rigid Swifts and Gryphons but the lack of any for sale has got me wondered if a cyclocross bike would be a good alternative.

So it wouldn’t be possible for a family member, who can get this scheme where they work, to buy a bike for ‘themselves’ but then I buy it off them for the reduced price?

    womble72

So you think the scheme is not worth it?

And if I instruct a bike shop to build it for me first? I really want to get my hands on a Singular Swift.

My Epic Comp must be at least 9 years old. Everything is original apart from the tyres. I was going to sell it for a Singular Swift but have decided to keep it. Really Really REALLY want a Swift though :-/

I read that as: plus a bit of couples dogging along the Thames…

Does that make me a dirty git?

No, i read it that way too when I re read my post 😀

My bike is 10 years old and still has the original body geometry saddle….. I say saddle, its more like a blade 🙂

Yes, Mrs W was also complaining last night that her ladybits had been blended. She’ll be moaning this morning when she wakes up 😆

Thanks once again. I’m not spending a fortune but it’s always nice to get opinions and advice on style an material etc. I used to borrow a friends old suit…. But then a cousin pointed out I looked like a bald David Dickinson and I’ve never been able to wear it since 🙂 I’m certainly no ‘Bobby Dazzler’ :-/

Thanks for the info. I shall avoid the black and go try on some charcoal/navy suits tomorrow. I really want to avoid looking like this fella

Oooooh I’m loving that orange half fat bike, the singular Peregrine and that Van Dessel WTF is awesome!!! The reason I asked what a monster cross bike was is because I’m looking to treat myself to a bike to go alongside my 2003 Spesh Epic (that I’ve decided to keep now) and fancied something fun and totally different in style and ride to the Epic. Thanks for the replies, links and photos…. A monster cross is definitely top of the list so far.

I would have thought that once the box has been opened you can only return it if its faulty. Ask yourself this, Would you pay full price for electrical goods where the box has been opened?

I’ve googled and it says this boiler is the shitest thing since shitty the shit stepped in a pile of shit. The common faults are diaphragm (replaced 2 years a go), the pcb and a whole list of other things. 🙁

Is the gryphon a laidback version of the Swift or just as capable trail banger?

I Can get a brand new ss built for under £1k What’s the age, spec and condition of the swift? Where are you located?

Any Photos? It might help with the valuation

Thanks James. That seems easy enough for me to work out.

The reason for me asking was simply because I didn’t want to remove all the shirfters, mechs, cassettes and stuff to find out ss is/isn’t right for me. I just thought If I could get close enough to experience it with my gears in place and then ride around for a while to see how I get on. If I like it with my geared set up, then removing it all and going proper ss should be even more fun/rewarding.

Thanks for all the help to what might seem like an odd question.
