Thanks for the input. I’ve had Apple for years and took a break with a Somy Xperia which I liked but after I broke the phone by forgetting it was in my back pocket when I sat down, i was loaned an iPhone and just stuck with it. I think it’s more likely now that I’ll upgrade to the P3xl. Just need to find a decent case for one now 😀

Don’t worry about AAC/MP3/ANAL compatibility, just ensure you install some Machina Dynamica dots and you’ll be laughing.

    Seems legit. Take my money!!!

except that you’ll be using the lowest quality bluetooth codec. The tangent supports aptX which is higher quality but your iphone doesn’t, it wants AAC.

I see. What other device could I use that uses aptX?

….I’ll then be asking what cables (and direction) works best when I’m amped up 😀

The speakers and the amp all have sit on a narrow window sill, so a full sized amp won’t fit. I’m not looking for the cheapest option just the one that offers the best sound and convenience…. convenience being just being able to walk into the room and Bluetooth spotify to it. I think the tangent ampster is looking to be what I might go for.

I forgot to mention, I don’t have an amp, just the speakers. I sold my hifi when i downsized But I still have the Totems and want to turn them into a good set of Bluetooth speakers without huge amps on show

That Tangent Ampster looks good, I was considering the Audiolab M-One but will look into that. Ruark Mr1 Mk2’s were high on my list of small but great sounding Bluetooth speakers but my Totems are gathering dust and if can partner them up with my phone and Spotify then I’ll be a happy chappy 😀

I would love an OLED tv, my 10yr old 32” Sony is starting to have issues and will soon need replacing, I have the budget for a really good tv but can’t justify buying a 55” screen as it would look massive in my living room. Not really sure what my options are for a quality screen but sensible panel size.

Loving these comments. I had a feeling ‘ghost writing’ might cause a few lolz. I’ll try a bit of t-cut first but failing that I’ll search for a good local paint/detailing specialist.

Do you have an open fireplace? We do and our neighbours are quite fond of cigars. Our front room stinks when the old  boy starts puffing his hamlets. I bought a chimney balloon and it’s stopped the smell. I remove it when the seasons change and we have the fires going, then pop it back in again over the summer.

After my incident with the window catch, I’m with the sacrificial filter idea. I notice that even from just a short shooting session and being over the top with the use of a lens cap, the lens can get covered in spots and grease.

I wouldn’t bother personally. You can do a shocking amount of damage to the front of a lens before it has any noticeable effect on photos.

A good lens cleaner would be a good option?

I always thought uv filters weren’t that necessary for digital cameras. I’m not an expert though.

I’ve got an Hitachi DAB site radio that I use on site. I’ve got some Hitachi tools which is why I chose it. It’s got Bluetooth/Aux/DAB and is IP54 water resistant, don’t know about dust though. Only 2 x 7w speakers though but loud enough without scaring my customers. I like the fact that it’s got a waterproof compartment for your phone (which it also charges) whilst in Bluetooth mode.

that looks a lot more compact than the Dewalt. I don’t work on site and my barn/workshop is in the middle of nowhere so I quite enjoy a bit of volume 🙂 I loved the sound quality of my old denon system but rarely play cds since spotify so saw this as an opportunity to get a mega bluetooth system

I once had an Indian chap call about the ‘problem I’m having with my internet connection’

When I said, this is a scam isn’t it? Let me guess, you’ll either put me through to an ‘engineer’ or I’ll have to access a link you provide me and enter details etc etc the guy exploded and shouted “**** you, you mother f**ker”. To which I replied that his customer service skills need a bit of work, he carried on ranting and said “go **** my mothers p****y”. I explained that my mother had passed away a few years ago so if his was free then I might be tempted…. but only if she’s a looker coz I’m quite particular? Apparently the guy said he was going to slit my throat before hanging up.

Haven’t had a scam call since then.

Few years ago my old (very old) hayter mower stopped working and became uneconomical to repair. I sold it for £95 at a carboot and bought a second hand, newly serviced etc Honda mower via EBay for £130. It has been faultless and starts first time every time.

Yeah, the size and weight for use without a tripod is what is putting me off. I had a go with my original set up (friends camera) and it made me realise how awkward it would be with my joint issues, so something small, powerful and the flexibility to do a bit of everything reasonably well is what I’m after. I’m aware that bird in flight shots will be difficult but I like the challenge 😀 To be honest, my little pocket zoom camera has produced some good ‘record’ shots but I feel I’d get better images from a dedicated interchangeable lens system (hopefully 😀 )

One thing on m43… The 2x crop factor vs the 1.6 of the apsc Canon means you get a lot more reach from a 400mm on m43.

800mm equivalent is ludicrously long (starting at 200mm equivalent is long in itself). You may want to look at a 300mm lens if you want a smaller system with similar reach to the Canon.

That’s a good point. The GX8 has a tilting screen and I was looking to use the camera + the 100-400 as a spotting scope/stills camera. I will look at getting a couple of other lenses that I can use for landscapes/street/night sky photography but that will be when my budget allows and bank balance recovers

Thanks for the replies so far. I’ve been looking at the micro four thirds options since I posted my original question and the Panasonic GX8 with the lumix 100-400mm lens has caught my attention. It’s funny how you start off on one path but end up taking a different route. I do suffer with joint problems that seem to be getting worse with age and the lack of weight/bulk that a MFT camera has the advantage over a large(ish) dslr and big lens. I can see me being able to use a lighter set up more comfortably and hadn’t properly considered MFT cameras before.

Keep talking to me about MFThirds, I’m liking the sound of it more and more. 😀 I’m looking at getting myself set up for wildlife first, so what long reach lens should I be looking at and do they have to be from the same manufacturer as the body it’s attached to to make use of image stabilisation, auto focus etc? I was out last night watching barn owls with some friends and there APS-C cameras with 400mm f5.6 lens were struggling in the low light so I assume MFT will be no better or worse?

    womble72

Also, the lack of bulk was quite appealing with the MFT systems
