I did it last year and won't be doing it again (nothing to do with me now being in the veterans category)due to a subsequent engagement.

Last year it was freezing cold & so claggy & windy you had to pedal hard to go DOWNHILL :o

Could be that I'm jut unfit though…

I'd not take non biking folks there though, there's not much for them to do while you're riding as all the rides are closed.

I had the same concerns initially but have found that on fast, bumpy downhills my feet don't bounce off the pedals like they used to do with flats.

I'd recommend starting off with the spring tension set very loosely and spend a bit of time in your local park practicing getting in and out of them where you won't come to much harm if it goes a bit pear shaped. I've been riding clip in for about a year now and think they're ace.

I'm 6'2", have a 34" inside leg and ride a large. I found the medium a little short in the top tube (when did it stop being called a crossbar?)

I've got on and think it's absolutely great.

I'd have another like a shot.

It's light, climbs well, is good on downhills and is well kitted out. I'll have had mine for 2 years in november and have only had to replece the cassette, chain and bottom bracket, everything else is original (although the grips are looking a bit worse for wear now).

In case you weren't sure, I'd completely recommend them.

I'm in North Yorkshire, if you're anywhere nearby any would like a go you're welcome to do so. (mine's a large frame size).

3 of us were leaving Guisborough Woods a couple of years ago in my mate's Ford Ka with 3 bikes on the back. Turning round at the end of the road we came VERY close to the bonnet of a dark blue Fiat Multipla with 1 guy in the driver's seat. He leapt out and, very helpfully, "watched us back" up to the front of his car. "You're fine there mate" he shouts so it's into 1st gear and pull gently away. Half an hour later at home we find a large chunk fd dark blue Fiat coloured paint attached to my pedal.

No idea how it got there unless the Fiat bloke had watched us reverse into his car and chose not to say anything. Bizarre :o

No damage to the bikes, fortunately

I've been considering getting one of these but, like you, wasn't sure if I'd end up saddled (no pun intended) with a complete clunker. Glad you're getting on well with it. I might go and have another look at the weekend now.

Is it not just a very subtle form of natural selection?

Could try using a fire extinguisher on them and follow up with "I'm sorry, I thought you were on fire"

My Daughter's 10 next month and she gets £1 a week , so does my son who's 7 1/2. Most of their friends get about the same.

We also put £25 a month into a savings account for each of them but they only use this a spenidng money for holidays (about £20 for a week).

Both of them tend to save for things they want rather than buy stuff but they're a bit younger so I've probabl;y got that to look forward to.

I agree completely about them helping out for free around the house

I find it works better with the addition of gin and a slice of lemon (although the lemon does tend to get stick in the tube of my camelbak.

I'd recommend Citrol, it's produced by Arrow Chemicals.

Citrus based and very effective, also foodsafe so you can use it on your kitchen surfaces too.

    Ford Focus Hatch 2.0 Diesel
Comfy, Handling's great, nice and quick, gets well over 50 mpg, major service is £200, costs under £300 to insure fully comp, can get 2 bikes in boot (seats down) or 4 on roof, big enough for family holidays.

Getting a bit bored with it and fancy a change but have had several test drives and am struggling to find similar performance/handling/economy for sensible money, need diesel as am doing 25-30k a year. (Focus is 3.5 yrs old and has 82k on it and I've had it from new)

Any chance of finding out what they're planning and letting plod know?

I had 3 2.0 diesel Zafiras, ran 2 of them well past 100k miles with no probs at all, 45/50 mpg, goes well, comfy, handles pretty well, same size on the road as an Astra estate. Had 5 adults inside plus 3 bikes on roof, 2 on boot rack, luggage in boot, hardly knew it was there

Don't buy the 1.6 petrol, goes ok if only the driver in it, very sluggish if you fill the washer bottle too :-)

I had a 51 plate 1.8 tdi focus estate a few years back as a company car.

It had a very hard life, was used for transporting light construction kit about (pneumatic drills, small hand tools etc) as well as serving as a daily commuter, family car and bike transporter.

I loved it, it handled well, got mid 40s mpg provided it wasn't driven stupidly hard, only saw a garage for fuel, tyres and services. Put about 60k miles on it in 18 months. I'd have another one.

Just need to check what kit each model comes with when you buy, mine was a Ghia and I only discovered it didn't have ABS as I passed through a hedge into a field on the North Yorkshire moors, whoops,..still drove home fine.
