    Hello *waves back*

Also, when your car warms up, if you come to a stop at a junction the melted underside of the snow means it all flumps down over your own windscreen. I've seen that happen a few times over the last few weeks.

    Brilliant!!

I'm glad to see that the verb "to Flump" when talking about micro avalances off roofs is getting the use it so richly deserves. :-)

Sorry to hear about your accident.

Not sure about the rest but I'm prety sure you can't pull out of the claim now. Technically you have to report anything which might result in a claim to your insurer, even if there's no damage or you decide to get it repaired yourself. If you did decide to withdraw your claim your insurer would probably still knock off your NCD and you'd be left having to pay for repairs too.

Did you get the biker's name, insurance details and reg no?

If you know who his insurer is you could, I think, notify them that you want to make a claim against him. I think this is the case but am not a expert in this field so please double check.

I was staying at at the Holiday Inn Express in Stirling a few years back and went to the Brewers Fayre (or whatever) over the road for my tea. At the next table was a large family (any 2 would have weighed more than the 4 of my family us 8O ). The Husband had a large starter, a mixed grill and something with custard (enough to have kept me going for 3 days).

Back at the hotel, watching the football in the Great Room downstairs, fat family from the pub come in and sit in the corner like a heard of Jabba the Hutts. A couple of chaps had ordered a Dominos Pizza and were eating them in front of the telly, could see the lardies looking in an envious way at the pizza, It did look quite nice admittedly but there's only so much a person can eat in a couple of hours…..or so I thought.

30 mins later 4 HUGE pizzas arrive (they must have been about 18" across)and are consumed by the huge family. I was staggered!! 8O

Chelsea tractors are almost all useless in the snow because they don't have the right tyres (and are driven by C@cks).

You need to remember that if you have to give them 3 months notice then they have to give you three months notice if they want rid too.

Employers recognise that people have notice periods and are almost always accepting of that. If a potential employer wasn't happy with you having to give 3 months nptice then I'd be questioning whether I wanted to go work for them.

You'd not want to walk a mile in Brown's shoes right now.

But at least then you'd be a mile away and have his shoes :-)

A lot of it's down to the tyres, any 4×4 with road tyres on isn't going to be much cop in the snow.

Interestingly, here in North Yorkshire the working 4x4s are doing fine in the snow but almost all of the toy ones are struggling. I've been down 1 road in my focus with hardly a slip that I was told was completely impassable by a clown in a x5

mastiles_fanylion, your stat only throttles the heat output at the end of the cycle, meaning that it will still take as long to heat up no matter what the set-point.

    Agreed

    MF-
You are right in that modern digital and electronic thermostats which are properly set up with the boiler will do this.

Older mechanical "turn & click" 'stats do just keep everything on full until the set point is reached. This is why modern ones can keep an area at, say, 20 degrees but a mechanical one set at 20 will keep it typiucally between about 18 and 22 degrees.

The higher the temperature on the thermostat the quicker the house warms up.

No it doesn't. The house will heat up at a constant rate until the set temperature is reached, at that point it will stop heating.

If the thermostat is turned up the heating will simply continue to run until a higher temperature is reached.

The thermostat is designed to control the heating (and cooling if you have it) so that a (more or less) constant temperature is maintained.

Box thing up that you think you want to get rid of, date the box 6 months ahead, seal the box. If it's still sealed by the time the date on the box comes round bin it without opening it.

I'm rubbish at throwing stuff out, I've tried this and have been given to understand that it works (except I keep opening the @resing boxes  )

It could be that there isn't enough air circulating theough the loft. It's very easy when isulating the loft to block or obstruct the flow of the eves vents. These allow air to circulate through the loft and prevent the buildup of warm, moist air from the house.

If this is the problem it should be quite easy to sort out, you just need to putt the insulation back from the vents and allow the air to circulate. It'll take a while for everything to equalise but should sort it out (with a bit of luck)

Just bear in mind that locks which come with handles tend to be shorter than those designed for use with knobs so the spindle which links the handles together is closer to the opening edge of the door. The result of this is that if you retro fit knobs where there were handles previously you can end up catching your knuckles on the door frame when you open the door away from yourself whilst holding the knob (if you'll excuse the expression  ).

why can't your mate be honest?

he can say – "there's this great bloke I know who can do the job given half a chance" – he's putting his reputation on the line then not yours.

Just what I was going to say.

Anything more than slightly "polishing" experience and ability should be avoided and even that can be a bid dodgy.

I once employed a guy on the recommendation of a member of staff who we found out later had lied on his CV and in interview, he was sacked for gross misconduct and the chap who recommended him as being ideal for the job was put on a final written warning.
