You can get eight Asda mini pork pies inside it, if you line them up properly.

This is the sort of information that every review should provide.

Real-life useability summed up in a single sentence 8)

@Psling of course it was a real bow tie, I’m not a complete heathen 😉

Went from arriving in reception at the Hilton soaked through at 7pm to appearing at the dinner all suited & booted at quarter to 8 with a properly tied bow 8)

    *UPDATE*

Chosen route turned out to be 92 miles so I’ve still to complete my 1st 100 however, apart from this……

New bike performed flawlessly, best £100 I’ve spent for a long time!!

It only rained for the last 62 miles 😀

No mechanicals, punctures or accidents at all between us (apart from the zip on my suit bag getting stuck closed so I had to break it with my leatherman).

1 person dropped out after 25 miles (but he was totally unprepared and didn’t appear to know how far it was going to be in spite of having been sent a detailed route plan 🙄 )

Didn’t get too drunk at the evening “do” and had a thoroughly good day all round.

Next year we’re planning to extend the route to make it a round 100 and ride back home the following day 8)

I’ve done a few multi-day races on foot and bike so I hope my eating and drinking is sorted (famous last words lol)

I’d be more worried about the other 2!

    Me too!!

    Am planning to do this…

go at your own pace, stop when you need to and eat and drink plenty then it’s not really that far to do in a day. Have fun

    and this…

Check tyres n tubes on new bike aren’t perished & fit a saddle ur used to

and will be trying to silence (or at least not listen to) these…

    Some alarm bells ringing there.

I’m fine with roadside tools & bodging so should be fine (am more worried about getting my bow tie straight for the evening) 8)

Blimey, that makes 3 of us of here doing the Saunders this year, I’d assumed I’d be the only one

I’m doing the SLMM this year too and have just bought (2 weeks ago) a pair of Mizuna trail shoes (can’t remember the model name). They fit like my road shoes and feel like a pair of (very fast and grippy) slippers, lovely 🙂

Ran the SLMM in 2011 in a pair of Inov8 Terrocs and found that whilst they gripped very well the soles were too flexible and my feet were in agony for about a week afterwards.

Whatever you choose, do NOT get goretex uppers. your feet will get wet anyway and ypu’re much better having shoes that’ll let the wet out quickly rather than hold it in (IMO & IME)

As tragically1969 says (sort of), fit is everything

Thanks for the responses, will try to have a look at one of the Decathon bikes but my nearest store is over an hour away so it’ll have to wait a week or so

    @ Yorkshire89 & Wombat

Is that Kilburn? Stayed at the Forresters Arms last week, enviously watched a group setting out. Yorkshire Mountain Biking van?

Will bring my bike next time!

Not stayed at the Forresters Arms as I only live a few miles away but have sampled a pint or 2 there over the years…

Yes, just above Kilburn, near the Gliding Club (if I recognise it correctly from the pics, could be just along near the Visitor Centre at Sutton Bank though).

The off-road decent that runs alongside the road past the white horse is very good.

There’s a chap I see in my local town occasionally with a hardtail/tagalong/2wheel trailer with 2 children in it combo, looks about 20ft long but seems to work ok.

Has to take a very wide swing at corners though…..

I was thinking of aiming for Leeds and then picking up the Leeds to Liverpool canal as a starter for 10, need to check if there’s a route along the towpaths

I was just googling for reviews and this thread was in the top 5 results, no luck otherwise though.

Looks to me as though it’s worth a punt for the money given the specs

When my Mum was a small girl (early 1950s) she was given a book that had been bought by her parents at a jumble sale. On the flyleaf of the book was an inscription that said “1st Name 2nd Name, Happy Birthday”.

Nothing remarkable at all except that my daughter’s name is the same as the name that was written the book.

My mum happened to marry a man with the same surname as was written in the book (an it’s not a particularly common surname) and my wife and I happened to give our daughter the same first name.

I’d never seen the book until after we’d named our daughter

I set off to go running on Saturday but turned around after about 500mm because there was pain with every stride.

You must have a very short stride length (or little legs)… 😉

If Ryanair are selling it, make sure they don’t charge you extra for the strap, colour choice, packing material etc etc etc

    😆

That appears to be the price all in including delivery….not gone through to the payment page yet though……

    EDIT
Further investigation reveals that the Ryanair deal directs you to the Samsonite website (price is still £79)

Thanks for the tip, I saw that, looks like a good deal for £79, can’t find the same thing online elsewhere for under £100.
Will probably go for that unless anyone comes up with a fantastic alternative

    I assume that
    1. You’re working from home; or
    2. It’s Take Your Rodent to Work Day and we weren’t told; or
    3. You noticed this feature of your mouse’s exercise equipment last night and have only just got round to posting your question

Thanks for the tip, I set out to dismantle it and hadn’t anticipated that they’d be so intransigent once I’d removed the hex bolt. I only gave the centre of the BB a couple of taps with a relatively small hammer and a drit to see if I could get any movement but to no avail.

Clearly a case of RTFI 😳
