10 years or so back I needed to purchase some of those compartmented food trays that are used in primary schools.

I didn’t know what the official name for them was (I now know they’re called food trays) but I knew the name of a manufacturer of them.

I now also know that if you google the manufacturer Rubbermaid and accidentally include a space after the 6th letter of said company’s name you have quite a bit of explaining to do to the IT Director

Superglue the bit of the key that you still have to the bit that’s stuck in the lock.

    Then twist the key gently…

Thanks, I’ll have a look at EBC.

I’d rather pay a bit more and get a set that will last me a while.

The cat has had to be rescued having been found clinging to the windowsill by its from paws whilst scrabbling against the brickwork is an amusing but ineffective manner on several occsions and SWMBO is therefore reluctant to give it the opportunity to do the same thing again.

    will look at flyscreens

Last month I bought a 32″ Sony for the front room, Full HD, Smart, 200hz and a 5 year waranty for £349 fom my local indie electrical shop. I’m very happy with it.

“Sorry, but I can’t understand why anyone would buy such a small screen nowadays, except maybe for the kitchen”

I loooked (briefly) in CurrysPCWorld for a bit of research and the yoof that was showing me what their options were basically said this. He took the hump when I pointed out that some people actually get off their ar5es every now and again and don’t perpetually worship at the alter of telly in their leisure time…..he was about 5’6″ tall an must have weighed 18stone

EDIT: We don’t tend to watch sport or films at home so don’t feel the need for a bigger screen

If you reach 12 points within 3 years you will get a mandatory totting ban of 6 months unless you can persuade the magistrate that the impact of a ban will cause exceptional hardship to others, it’s supposed to have a severe effect on you, that’s the whole point. The fact that you’d only have 12 points for 11 days is irrelevant.

You’ll be required to attend court if a ban is possible (which it is in this case).

If you decide to throw yourself on the mercy of the bench expect any claims that others will be severely impacted examined very closely and interrogated a lot more than you might expect.

Sorry if this seems a bit blunt but AKAIK this is the situation.

    IANAL

I have no intention of giving money so someone else can have a good time, I’ll sponsor someone to do something genuinely unpleasant (sit in a bath of cold baked beans for 3 days for example) but I’m not going to fund someone else’s adventure (particularly if it’s something I’d like to do myself :D )

However… a month pr so back I received an email from someone who works for the same company as me but whom I’ve never met.

She was asking for sponsorship for her trip to climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for something or other.

I was initially struck with “I’m not paying for your adventure” rage until, in the last line she wrote “I’ve always wanted to do this and so am covering all the costs of the trip myself so everything donated will be going to charity”

I donated a tenner plus giftaid when I read that.

    10k steps a day

    1km or 0.6miles = 300 steps

So you have to walk 20 miles a day??!!!!

No, 1km or 0.6 miles = 300 steps is the conversion from cycling

We’re doing it, I suspect I’ll be making good use of the miles cycled in to steps conversion

Midlifecrashes, excellent plan, I’ll investigate that idea further but I don’t bother matching my laptop bag to my shoes, if I did I’d have to find a pair of smart red and reflective shoes for work ;-)

I have a HRM that I use in conjunction with perceived effort (I keep going until I’m knackereed) but have no way on measuring cadence without buying a new bit of kit.

I’d like to know how far I’ve gone mainly because we’re involved in a corporate 10,000 steps per day thing at work and I can legitimately convert distance cycled into steps

I curently have a single plain white shirt (and a decent dress shirt natch), a few blues, stripes (blue, red, pink) a couple of checks as well as plain blues and plain pinks.

I think we need a separate thread for ties….

Good cotton, mostly double cuff…current count, 17…a cull is likely over the weekend to bring it down to enough for 3 weeks (that’s a reduction of 2 shirts to bring the total down to 15  )

I am clearly not trying hard enough in this particular endeavour

Not worked on a Carry van but I’ve replaced the front suspension on a variety of Volvos, Citroens, Renaults and a couple of Morris Minors.

It’s a fairly straightforward job providing you have space to work, a decent trolley jack, an axle stand and a reasonable toolkit. I can usually do 1 front corner in 2-3 hours providing I limit my tea consumption, nothing’s seized up and I have everything ready. It’s a lot easier if you have access to an indoor workspace with a hydraulic car lift.

Why not get one of those basic digital camers that are aimed at children, I think they’re pretty robust and have big buttons (the camers, not the shildren) and get the owls to take a selfie every now and again?

You need big buttons to allow easy actuation by wing and, ideally bluetooth or wifi connectivity to enable the pictures to be downloaded without disturbing them.

    Thanks for your help

I’m almost certain it’s a Hollowtech II since the spindle is part of (or connected to) the right crank) I know this because I took it apart (and put it back together) when I replaced my chainrings.

I’ll check Sheldon Brown this evening when I have the bike and the internet in the same place

In the interests of balance….I have an 09 plate Mazda 6 with that engine in and it’s not had any DPF problems. It’s got 76k miles on it of which I’ve done 70k.

I appreciate that there are always exceptions but my experience of the engine is completely positive.

    Same engine as mine.

I think a sizeable part of the 75k service is checking the valve clearences, not in itself a dificult task, juts time consuming.

Mine’s in for the next service tomorrow, same main dealer, and I’ve been quoted £153 all in so at least the next one’s cheaper

    Which engine is it?

Assuming it’s a diesel I have the same car (ex demo, mine for the last 70k miles) on an 09 plate and the last service it had was the 75k service and it cost me IIRC £350.

Like yours it’s always been serviced on time or a little early at a main dealer.

Has yours had the recall works done on the timing chain (would have been about 3 years ago IIRC)?

In answer to Tonyd and Bonchance the addition of the ;-) was intended to indicate the intended humourous content (as you both well know ;-) )….although I did suggest it at the time and Wombat jr who was 6 at the time only took a moment to point out the minor flaw in my otherwise perfect plan

We didn’t bother with the net enclosure thing for ours.

Instead I dug a hole for each of the legs so the metal rim was about level with the lawn so the height of any falls would be reduced from 3 to 4 feet down to around 2 inches ;-)

This has happened to me a couple of times in the past. I found that an email to the Fleet Manager and my own Manager explaining that since my company vehicle wasn’t road legal I’d not be moving it off my drive until it could be legally taken on the road resulted in the disc arriving in the post in a day or so.

It’s strange how these things can cross in the post….
