I’ve got a Cateye Duplex, runs off 2 AAA batteries, so light I don’t notice it’s there.

Flashing rear with solid or flashing front light.

Plenty good enough to illuminate the bars/pedals/rear mech you tilt your head that way.

    Currently £16 from Halfords.

    Would definitely recommend.

Edit, but that Moon one looks rather good too…

    Thanks folks.

I though it would end up being a gaffa tape job.

Will have a look at heat shrink tube though, sounds like a neater solution.

It must be the type of plastic, I’ve got a cable lock which is much older and the plastic on that is fine.

What’s your normal trouser size? Those DHB trousers on SP look good but I’m normally a 33/34 waist.

Need a 34″ leg length too

Mine is basically a cheap Bob Yak so yes, it does work to jackknife it. This has the bonus of looking nifty too IMO :-D.

That’s ideal for a quick stop where there isn’t anything handy to lean the rig against but I’d like an easy method of keeping the trailer upright when its disconnected from the bike or if I need to park it in a straight line as the jacknife method takes up a lot of space on a footpth/parking area.

I use a short length of leftover sleeper at home to rest the front of the loadbed on which works great but its not really practical to carry it around with me.

Mrs Wombat has had 2 or 3 refurbished I-Phones from one or another online stores (Carphone Warehouse for at least one of them). She’s had Grade A and Grade A/B all came boxed with all accessories.

Looking at the A/B grade one I couldn’t find anything about it which was different from a brand new one (I’d just got a brand new I-Phone of the same model from my employer so had a comparator). It even had the film on the front for her to peel off :-D

Eldest Wombat Jr got a refurbed Motorola Android handset from Laptops Direct for about £120 and that was a very similar experience.

We’d definitely consider going for a refurbished handset again.

Last month I replaced an aged pair of Scarpas with a pair of Brashers. Have done about 50 miles in them so far and am very impressed. Extremely comfy not a hint of any rubbing. Would definitely recommend. YMMV.
There were £100 from my local Millets.

I have been dealing with this issue at work.

AIUI the current CIBSE guidance on ventilation is likely to be updated ahead of the October half-term holidays to take into account the colder months.

Blown air heating is apparently fine providing the blown air is fresh from outside and not recirculated within the classroom/building and the ducts are maintained & cleaned in line with the relevant regs.

Aircon units should be fresh air only unless they’re located in seldom occupied/unoccupied spaces such as server rooms.

Heating systems will have been designed/specified to work with the windows closed and trickle vents open so will certainly struggle to maintain normal temps with all the windows open. Some schools have been opening a coupe of windows in each classroom and keeping the door open to the air can pass through the corridor and into the general circulation spaces.

Bottom line is that the windows are recommended to be kept open for the time being and should ideally be opened an hour or so before the pupils arrive and closed a similar time after they’ve left.

Running the heating overnight to build up some thermal mass within the building structure may help but personally I’m not convinced that it will do much more than take the worst of the chill out of the building fabric.

Running the heating with the windows open is definitely not ideal for any number of reasons but for the time being I don’t see there’s much alternative. I’m keenly awaiting the updated guidance from CIBSE, whenever that arrives.

No worries, was surprised to see a reply after a week 😁

Well, the cast has been off for 9 days now (1 month to the day since the injury) and I’ve been wearing the neoprene wrist support I was given at the fracture clinic and I’ve been doing the special wrist exercises several times a day as instructed…..

So far so good, I can lift a kettle and spent yesterday afternoon laying some paving without any noticeable discomfort.

Hand is still a little bit swollen but that’s only noticeable when compared to my left one.

Not tried riding yet, will probably go for a gentle run out on the road to the shops in the week to try it out before I go too far off-road.

Definitely Quadlock for me, has anyone else suggested it yet? ;-D

The waterproof poncho cover works well. Case is surprisingly slim and (IMO) doesn’t feel chunky.

Case, mount and phone have all survived several significant impacts…..

I had ridge vents in my last house (build circa 1985) and found that opening the loft hatch would increase airflow through the house as the warmer air would flow up and out, like a chimney. You could try this.

Also, given the age of your property, do you have open fireplaces? If so, make sure the throat plates are open, this may well help (probably).

+1 for because it is a Surly (and momentum)

My Krampus just keeps on going.

I think its the combo of weight (on the downs), a very comfy ride, big tyres & wheels which just plough over small rocks/ruts/roots/rodents and the lovely, lovely steel frame.

    The reason for this?

Because when you find them, you stop looking :-D

    I have a 2017 Mazda 3 SportNav with the 2.0 165ps petrol engine.

Have had it from new with the intention of running it for 7/8/9 years so depreciation isn’t too much of a worry. This is till the plan.

I’ve done about 54k miles in it so far and definitely rate it.

Will quite happily sit on the motorway all day with 4 bikes on the roof and 4 adults plus luggage inside and still has plenty left to overtake. Handles very nicely on twisty roads.

XL Krampus will easily fit in the boot with front wheel off and seats down.

I find it comfy and quick enough without being ridiculous. Insurance is well under £350/year based on 20k miles. I like the uncluttered interior design and driving position.

Servicing is’t eye watering at the main dealers, around the £150 mark on average.

The only real downsides are the electronic handbrake (just not a fan of them in general, nothing the matter with the Mazda one per-se) and that tyres are a bit pricey but I got 35k miles out of a pair of fronts so I’m not overly concerned.

    Would happily have another one.

Yesterday started with a loop of the NY Moors with a good friend, sadly this excursion ended with an OTB, facial grazing and bruised ribs 😳

Got home to appreciation, cards, Doom Bar and gifts from the junior Wombats (although they’re both technically adults).

A very good day (apart from the OTB bit)

I’m currently running a Dirt Wizard on the front and a Chronicle on the rear.

Appreciate it may seem a bit of an odd combo but it works for me. Front end grip is excellent in my local, rather changeable, conditions.

However based on the comments so far may switch to a DHF front front and stick with a Chronicle rear when next replacing.

Will give it a miss on the basis that if you have to ask if it’s dodgy then it probably is 🙄

    MK1 Krampus for me too.
Looks almost identical to the OPs but with a larger frame (even have the same dropper).
Brilliant fun, comfy for a long day out and great for an evening hoon through the woods.

    Just to add my 2p…..

I appreciate that the sticks/branches may not be a trap as we may define it due to a lack of spikes and barbed wire and also accepting that something similar could have occurred naturally following some strong winds, but…

They were placed there with the intent of causing an obstruction/someone to fall off/injure someone. The execution may have been a bit poor or ineffective and looked to be fairly easy to remove in the video but the intent to cause harm was still there.

Think I’m going to try a pair of the M530s and see how it get on.
Interesting suggestion re tendonitis. I think it’s more a pressure thing rather than an underlying issue with my feet as I only get the pains with this pedal/shoe combo. Will seek medical advice when we’re allow wed out again if the platform pedals don help.

I got one in January, its ace fun.

Doesn’t really like going much more than 12mph and a feels very short in the front end after a regular road or MTB.

Very quick off the mark and great for nipping through stationary traffic.

I gets (got) used for a 3 mile each way trip from home to the station and then another 4/5 miles at the other end several times a week and its ideal. The bag clip system for the front of it is very good, doesn’t appreciatively affect the handling because its attached to the frame rather than the forks/steerer.

Its really nicely put together, everything works well and fits together in a very satisfying way.

Get mudguards if the’re not already fitted.

Would definitely recommend a test ride.

    EDIT

Also, they really hold their value so if you go 2nd hand you’d not lose much if you sell it if you keep it in decent nick.

I bought one of the frame bags.

Initial thoughts are that its pretty decent quality, the fabric feels pretty good and the zips work well. Ideal for the use I bought it for.

The only issue I have is that the straps are a bit long so the loops wont close tight around the bike frame as the bike I bought it for has a slim steel frame.

For £10 I’m happy to work out a strap shortening bodge as I’ve had the same issue with every other bag I’ve tried to use with this bike.

Anyone got a solution they’d like to share?

Today I’ve stocked up on party balloons to keep my family a stock of non-infected air for breathing at a later date should anyone in my street become contaminated.

I’ve also got a supply of doorknobs, push plates and handles to allow me to use my own whenever I have to use a door which could have been touched by someone whose Covid-19 status is not known.

Please feel free to purchase your own supplies of these items, I’ve already got loads ;-)

Not yet but I can foresee it coming in the next year or so.
My dad is 84 and still drives regularly, only does around 5k miles a year, doesn’t drive in the dark if it is at all avoidable and will get a lift from me/someone else if it is an option for any trips.
Mum pretty much doesn’t drive now, still has a license but finds it too tiring/stressful so chooses not to.

Dad and I will go out every few weeks, generally I drive but I’ll make sure that he takes a turn (in his car) occasionally largely so I can see how he’s driving.

So far I’m comfortable that he’s fine on the roads but I’m already steeling myself for that conversation.

I think many people regard car ownership as a symbol of their freedom to travel When & where they want so even if they don’t really use the car very much at all or could manage fine without one.
The symbolic loss of freedom can have much more impact than the actual practicalities of situation.1

TBF I’m hoping that he’ll hang up his driving gloves voluntarily before I or my sister have to have a word.

You have my sympathies, it’s not an easy subject to tackle.

I saw a similar exchange along the lines of…
Buyer – How much is the bike?
    Seller – £100
    B – OK, what’s the lowest you’ll go?
S – About 3mph, any less than that and I fall off.

@malvernrider 3 to 4 miles each end of a train journey on fairly flat paved roads/cycle paths. Will be attaching some sort of laptop bag to the rack (appreciate it will need to be removed before folding).

    Thanks folks.
My default position was a Brompton on C to W but the curl looked like a good alternative for about half the price. Don’t want to save cash and then find it’s annoying or tricky to use.
I’ll see if i can find a local Dahon stock is and go have a play in store.

    @munrobiker
Thanks for that, I agree with the value point, the Dahon is about half the price of an equivalent Brompton. The fold looks very similar and I really like that it uses standard components. Good point about the flat fixing, I hadn’t thought of that.
