Ha, yes, forgot about that, a detour to South Shields to get the ferry across to North Shields would be a decent alternative, much quicker than riding back into Newcastle to use the Millennium bridge.

    NB
Bolton to York is easily doable, I’d suggest staying in Thirsk or Northallerton overnight to shorten day 2.

If it was me riding it…From Northallerton take the A172 towards Teesside, then you can pick up the Sustrans route from next to the Tees Barrage (it’s the 3 rivers cycle route), head north as far as the Tyne Tunnel, go through that (the pedestrian one, not the car one), turn right and continue until you get to the sea.

I’ve ridden this a couple of times, it works out about 85 miles but the vast majority of the Sustrans section is traffic free or on quiet roads

I got a Karrimor Transit 40 from Sports Direct, cost about £20, lasted 2 years of at least weekly flights and is still going (fairly) strong.
It has wheels and an extending handle as well as backpack straps (although these aren’t very comfy.
Surprisingly good for the money, I’d get another one If the need arose.

Our Sky boradband is filtered so during the day anything above the equivalent of a 15 certificate is filtered out.

I can override it using the admin settings if I want to and can alter the times when the filtering is applied.

Haven’t tested it to see what I can get during the day though….honest

I had a test drive in one, found the ride very harsh (could have been the runflats) compared to the Focus that I was replacing.

Boot is OK, similar in size to a focus.

    Lacks rear legroom IMO.

The salesman I dealt with at my local main dealer was a stroker of the first order so my view of the car may have been tainted…

Overall probably OK but I think the current Focus is a nicer place to be, handles better and is significantly cheaper to buy (I didn’t buy a Focus or a 1 series).

EDIT, just noticed it’t the newer one you’re looking at, the one I drove was an 09 plate 120d

Only a slight tangent but…in my local town I’ve seen a chap on an orange Bakfiets (? spelling) with a 2 seat croozer behind….and then a carry freedon style trailer attached to be back of the croozer.

The whole train looks about 8 metres long and accelerates about as well as you’d expect 8O

I started a new job and was introduced to a couple of the cleaners as Sylvia and Rita, they always seemed to be together and after a couple of weeks I still hadn’t worked out which was which so they became known as Ant & Dec.

    Thanks for the replies.

I’ll strip them down during the week and see how knackered they look.

I’d rather not go rigid purely because he likes having sus forks (prob because all his mates have them on their BSOs)

I suspect I’ll be in the market for a set of s/h forks….

Diesel used to be a fraction of the price of petrol.

    Eh, when?

Years ago on the continent it was about 2/3’s the price, but they also paid a higher level of yearly car tax if you had a diesel. And it was due to a lesser tax take on diesel over petrol – probably agriculture/business based reasons.

    2/3rds is a fraction

One of the main benefits of living opposite a retired couple is that when I (and my neighbours) get home on a Thursday we can see what bin(s) need to put out for collection because they always deploy theirs mid-afternoon.

I firmlly rely on the retirees opposite us as well to inform me of brown or black…

I’m actually tlooking forward to retiring so I can put out the wrong bin every now and again in order that once the entire street has followed suit I can swop it for the correct one under the cover of darkness…..I’m sure the (metaphorical) long winter evening of my dotage will simply fly by. :D

    Ah, I see.

In that case still charge them for a pitch (or negotiate a profit share)

    wombat

Ideally (like the food vendors) they would be paying you for the pitch and would then keep what they make.

My solution has been to stack the bins up across the drive

On their sides in a nice stretcher bond wall? Chapeau 8)

We have ‘Shit! The Bins!’ day here once a week.

I’m mooching round the house in my dressing gown and hear the lorry pull up outside.

There’s very little dignity in chasing a bin lorry up the street in a dressing gown and slippers pulling an overfull wheelie bin after you.

One of the main benefits of living opposite a retired couple is that when I (and my neighbours) get home on a Thursday we can see what bin(s) need to put out for collection because they always deploy theirs mid-afternoon.

When they go on holiday domestic waste based chaos ensues for the full length of the cud-de-sac.

I arrived at work on morning to discover that 6 of the external CCTV cameras had been nicked.

We had some excellent close up shots on the recorder of the thief gurning as he undid the bolts holding them to the wall.

    Try a sign maker.

Astley Signs are good if you’re in the North East, pretty sure they can do that sort of thing.

Just been and checked and it’s the Talon 6 that I have

    Talon 6

More importantly I’ve also determined that the pork pie capacity of the waist pockets is probably closer to 6 each side giving a 50% increase over the figure I prevously suggested 8)
