You are likely to get stung for import duty on them, so factor in at least another 25% on top of the price,

Did you see these, £562 @ Merlin?

    They look sweet!
Just got to decide now if I can justify the price of them over the price of the RS Reba’s or SID’s……

I got my RS SID RCT3 forks from Germany for £470 including carriage

I had my wheels made up by Just Riding Along, Arch Ex with CK hubs, was gonna go for Flow rims but glad i didn’t.

How do you find the SIDs?
I always imagine lightweight Xc forks being a bit flexy, is that the case?

Wiggle are doing sets of Stans Crests with Hope Pro 2 hubs for £267 a pair with the code EXTRA10

I’m going for these wheels but can’t decide on which forks to go for. The RS SID looks a bit too XC lightweight for my liking. The RS Reba are a good price and I can’t find Fox forks anywhere for a decent price.

Well after advice here from Cy and a conversation earlier with Paul from Cotic, I’ve got a large blue Solaris on it’s way 😀
Just got to figure out exactly what else I want build-wise!

    Thanks.
I’m thinking that large may be the best bet, I suppose that I should call Cotic and see what hey suggest as well.

Next dilemma is going to be what colour?
So far I’ve got a green BFe and a black Sould so I reckon the Solaris in blue should fit in nicely 😀

I the X9 chainset is a GXP one, you can get some adaptora from Hope which convert a standard BB to GXP size.

If you know someone with a Halfords trade club card, you can get a wind back tool from there for about £15 with their discount.

Both side pistons should wind back in clockwise.

You should only need a wind back tool if you’re doing rear pads. With fronts you can just push the pistons back in with a bar or set of water pump pliers.
One tip, remove the brake fluid reservoir cap before you push the pistons back in and put a rag round it to soak up excess fluid.

Mr Big is very tempting – if you bite the bullet, I’d be fascinated to hear how you get on with it. The price is so good that even if it’s shit, the components will transfer onto a Solaris frame and it’d still be good value!

It’s almost like you’ve read my mind 😆

If you’re interested in a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, I’ve got one that’s about three weeks old that I’m selling for £150ono.

I’ve used them for parts and have found them great to use, like most of the German companies but when it comes to a complete bike, I’m not so sure.
There doesn’t seem to be many reviews about for them either.

You’ll probably need an SDS drill for that.

You may find that it’s cheaper to buy one from Screwfix than to hire one. It was for me when I fitted my ground anchor a couple of years ago.

I had a small stick stuck in my back wheel for almost a whole lap, it was VERY annoying! Didn’t want to stop though My brakes are also a little noisy, but that can be helpful at times.

Worked well for me, it gave me plenty of warning to pull over for you!

I reckon I must’ve been the most passed rider on the course 😆

Had a fantastic day there as well.
I’ve not been a fan of some of the Gorrick races in the past but this was something else. The organisation was great, the course was excellent and the facilities were pretty good to boot.

It was my first endurance event, done off the back of no training as I never got round to it, but despite this I still managed my 8 lap target and finished in 37th!

There was a brilliant atmosphere at the event with plenty of support round the course from spectators. I was also really impressed by the encouragement given to myself and other solos by some of the fast boys as the night went on.

@sam_underhill, the ‘motivation’ with the horns was great, made me chuckle every time I passed you guys!

Well done to Gee and Matt for the win, one thing though, Matt really needs to sort out the squeak on his bike, the two or three times he passed me I could hear him coming from miles behind 😀

Huge thanks also to the three girls who were sat in the trees on the Olympic Ridge section for virtually the whole race clapping and cheering on every rider who passed. They must have been frozen by the end of the night 😯

Roll on next years event 🙂

Mrphil, this sounds interesting, care to elaborate? I’d be interested in the science behind your statement.

    £50 for a fuel treatment!!!!

It only costs the garages a few quid go buy and all they do is pour it in the tank.

The dealer I used to work for pushed us to sell all this crap to customers and we got a bond according to hw much of it we sold. There was a huge mark up on most of ths stuff.

Then why is this kind of paste not in them at the beginning if its a known issue.

It is on the newer models. No doubt they started to use it once they found that the flickering was an issue and the paste fixed it.

wisepranker – so do you think they will stay cool enough for the race? I’m doing the Torq too…and on my practice run in Devon last night we didn’t exactly have the tropical temperatures the southeast has been enjoying…Maybe I’ll just have to ride faster to increase the airflow over the light unit! (it’ll never happen….)

I’m hoping it’ll stay cool enough on the medium setting. I imagine the airflow could be an issue with me though as i don’t think I’ll be going particularly fast after about 8 hours of riding!

I’ve just had exactly the same problem with my Maxx D.
I called Exposure yesterday and they were really helpful, apparently the problem is down to the light getting too hot. I was offered the opportunity to send the light back to them and they’d put some kind of paste in it which helps dissipate the heat.
As I’m racing the 12:12 this weekend, I’m gonna use the light on Sunday then get it sent back.

I remember reading this in MBUK when it happened. I was really shocked at the time, JMC always came across like a good guy and a hell of a rider in all the articles and videos back then.
I still rate Dirt as one of the best MTB videos made.

I went to one of the Specialized roadshow things during the summer and the had his old Stumpjumper on display. Brought back a lot of memories of bikes I wanted during younger days.

I’ve got the M4 Evo’s on my BFe and they’re fantastic.
I’m not sure if the floating rotors are worth the extra but I fitted them anyway, you can never have too much braking!
Bleeding’s a doddle and can’t comment on pad wear as I’ve not had them long enough.

    Avid brakes

Can you guess what bits I’ve been having problems with lately!

    140mm FS
    140mm HT
    120mm HT Singlespeed
    Roadbike

Due to the small size of my garage, I’ve just sold my motorbike to give me extra space in the garage and some extra MTB funds!

For anyone that knows the area, as it looks like being a wet weekend is it worth using mud tyres or does it not get that bad?

    Spotted on Twitter earlier today

Using Galloway’s logic if Assange were to be taken to America while he was sleeping it wouldn’t be extradition, just bad manners.

    I think this guy’s got a good point 😆

I’ve always preferred SRAM to Shimano but I’ve had so much trouble with the X9 on my last bike that it’ll be Shimano for me from now on.
With the prices for shimano from the German sites, it’s not worth buying SRAM anymore.

Don’t forget a couple of years ago he was saying he’d never leave highroad to join sky.

But considering that the team lost their main sponsor and as a result were shutting up shop, he didn’t really have much choice!

How about some real competition for Sky,

    http://www.virgin.com/richard-branson/blog/proud-of-british-cycling

Team Virgin cycling? Maybe Branson can throw some money at UK cycling and we can have two top level teams 😀

Cheers guys, it looks like I’ll have to buy it in separate bits as I’m probably going to go for 170mm cranks and it seems the Shadow+ mech is the one to go for.
So far I think I’m looking at about £350ish.

Now I’ve just got to decide whether I can justify spending £350 on a groupset to replace my current SRAM stuff as I’m sick of having problems with it 😯

Folk get weirdly over competitive don’t they? I passed a guy at a cross race who then put on a sprint to pass me again. This pattern was repeated 3 or 4 times until the inevitable happened and he blew totally whereupon he started banging his bars and swearing. We must have been riding for maybe 30th place.

Isn’t that the whole point of racing though?
Surely if he’s in a race he’s just there to try and beat as many people as possible ❓

Contact Ducati UK, they are supposed to be quite strict with dealers when it comes to screw ups like this.
According to a mate of mine who had problems with his 749 when a dealer serviced it, Ducati UK couldn’t have been more helpful.

What does he have ‘previous’ for (his word, not mine)? So sad that someone could do something so evil at all let alone to a family member. Horrific what goes on behind closed doors sometimes.

Dealing crack and being caught in posession of a machete.
    Sounds like a lovely fella!
