I was lucky last time as well, managed to get myself a set of Fox Talas for £200 in the last sale 🙂

wisepranker – was looking at them with fingers hovering. Lucky for me you hit the button before I could get myself into trouble. Seemed like a pretty good deal.

At that price complete with rotors I couldn’t resist them!
They’re going on my Roadrat, should work a treat on there. I got a set of the carbon fibre FSA bars for it as well, bit if a bargain considering that I was looking at the same bars on CRC for about £40 🙂

Managed to bag myself a set of Magura brakes for €89 but they seem to have sold out pretty quickly!

Some good deals on the forks there as well.

I thought it was a pretty good idea. It was a shame it was knocked back in the first place.

Hope Tech Evo’s. Awesome brakes 😀

I’ve just gone from SRAM to XT on my bikes. Won’t be going back to SRAM either.
The XT shifting is smoother and the Shimano kit seems more reliable.

Looks a bit like a Momo helmet but without the logo’s.

It also appears to have very limited mounting options compared to a Gopro or a Contour.

I do also wonder if there are other sports where there are similar levels of drug taking but insufficiently robust testing policies in place to catch it.

Wasn’t there a documentary recently about the huge number of failed drug tests in football and how nothing was done about them and they were pretty much covered up?

Unfortunately no insurance, so it’ll nedd to be nhs, which unfortunately means it’ll be a long wait

Mine was done on the NHS, from being diagnosed to the op was about 10 weeks so not too long.

I had one and was riding my bike up until two days before the operation with no problems, saying that though, I didn’t really have any pain with it.
I’m typing this while sitting about at home in some pain after having the operation on it yesterday. I was advised no driving for 3 weeks and no lifting for 6 weeks. I can’t imagine I’ll be back on the bike for at least the next 4-5 weeks, even for a gentle potter about!

How long’s a piece of string?
I know it’s not the best answer but I’ve seen and heard of some doing high mileage with no issues and others have been plagued with problems. As with any secondhand van, it’s going to be down to luck of the draw.

Personally, if I was going for one, I’d be going for something from a dealer of some description with a warranty on it. When things go wrong on Mercedes vans, the repair price can get very big very quickly!

From an ex-Mercedes mechanic, ok reliability, poor build quality, poor longevity.
There used to be a rumour in our workshops that the 120 part of the model name was either the number of times it’d be in the workshop for repairs during it’s lifetime or the number of rust spots that would appear within the first three years!

Buy a VW Transporter, much better in every respect.

If you’re worried about selling it on to become someone else’s problem, just punt it on to webhyanycar.com and leg them sort it!

    Menchov?

Looks like he’s being investigated at the moment for links to Ferrari so I reckon he might not be so clean.

I’m not convinced that Lemond is clean either, no matter how much he goes on about being anti-doping.

The 100mm sounds like the one for me.
If it looks as good as the Rocket and rides as well as a Soul or Solaris, I’ll be getting myself one 😀

Buy the Roger Musson wheel building book. It’s £9 for the download and it’ll tell you everything you need to know about building wheels.
    Worth every penny!

I know it’s a while back but is there any news on this?

Any cycle paramedics / police on here?

Yes, with the ambulance service here in London.

how do you get your bikes?

As far as I’m aware, the bikes were bought direct from Specialized then kitted out with panniers, racks, lights etc in-house.
The new bikes (Cubes) I’m not so sure about. I could probably find out for you though.

do you have to service them yourselves?

Some of the guys are Cytech trained, not sure which level though, and they used to do all the maintenance in-house. Over the last year it’s been put out to a company who come round once a month and service the bikes.

can you just take them in to a shop if they need work doing?

    No.

do you get to choose what you ride? like C2W?

Again no. We get what we’re given.
as for C2W, our service don’t even run it for their staff!

Add some man mayo to a sandwich then let it be known later in the afternoon after it has been eaten.

cheers awb’dy for the prices and pics.
oh dear, want one even more now…

looks like splurging on frame and forks and cobbling the rest together with cheap stuff.
or get an inbred and save a whole lot of cash?

There’s one for sale here, half decent spec and form the photo’s that Carl sent me, it’s not in bad nick either!

According to the article about it on Bikeradar, Lance owns a tiny pat of Trek,

“He was granted a very small share in the early 1990s, less than a quarter of one percent,” Mashek said. “The majority is privately held by the Burke family.”

Only Oakley left to go then that’s the big sponsors all gone!
I wonder if any of the big name sponsors will try and sue to get their money back that they paid him during the doping years?

I don’t know whether they have access to less compressed files, or hand pick the best lens, or just have some amazing post-processing software, but I haven’t seen anybody’s amateur Hero 2 footage look as sharp, uncompressed, lacking in rolling shutter and clean as the official.

I’m not sure if using the new Protune software they’ve released is part of the reason but apparently it offers less compressed files amongst other things. Apparently it makes for better editing options.

Hmmm, I’ve had my Solaris for a couple of months now and it’s been a fantastic bike. It rides well and is incredibly comfortable. Since building up the Solaris, I’ve not moved my BFe so I was debating whether to get rid on the BFe frame and build the parts onto a Soul but form what I’m reading here, there’s not much point!
As much as I like the BFe, I think it’s days may be numbered 😯

When they arrived it had the trade price info in the box straight from hope. They make a fair amount on those wheels!

Do tell then, what’s the trade price on the wheels 😀

Can’t comment about Rocket builds but I was looking at one today in Keswick Mountain Bikes and I was impressed with it. A fantastic looking bike 😀

If you’re flying from London, you’re a little limited with flights to Cape Town.
British Airways still fly there daily but SAA no longer have direct flights there, you need to connect in Johannesburg. Virgin still have a Cape Town flight but I think it’s a seasonal flight now rather than all year round.

I got a pair of Flak Jacket XLJ Oakleys with clear-black iridium lenses off a member on here last week.
I used them at the weekend and going from bright sunshine into some pretty dark singletrack they worked a treat. I’ve not tried them for night riding ye but I think they’ll be ok for it.

I’ve absolutely no time for cheats and dopers and in the case of Armstrong, I’ve said all along that until they show some evidence that he’s doped rather than statements and bits of Internet speculation, as its been up until now, I’d stick with the principle of innocent until proven otherwise.
It would be fair to say that with the news coming out today, there’s absolutely no way he can really be found anything but guilty.

After reading the statements released today, it’s fair to say I’m more disappointed in Hincapie as I kind of hoped that he was clean but it seems that it’s a bit much to expect that of any of the top riders of that era.

I wonder how many more of these statements we’ll see today?

Does anyone with the SS Roadrat find that the drivetrain is noisy?
Mine seems to make a bit of a noise, it seems that the side of the chain is catching the chainguide on the chain set. Is this normal?

I’ve got a Contour going cheap if you’re interested 🙂

I’ve blight a Gopro 2 to try as I fancy using it for still photo’s as well as videos.
