Project, The thing they’re talking about doing with closing smaller stations and centralising them is what most services seem to be planning. There’s another service that’s in the process of doing it at the moment, possibly in the Cambridge area?

As for make ready teams, we use them in London and while they can have some advantages, you can’t trust them to equip an ambulance correctly and everything needs to be re-checked before you start working on a vehicle that they’ve done. It’s a false economy but management don’t look at the bigger picture.

As for sitting on street corners waiting for jobs….welcome to the joys of active area cover 👿

It’ll be fine to drive without the power steering operating, just going to have heavy steering.

Lots of bike shops will only have themselves to blame if they go t*ts up.

    This.

I’ve tried a few LBS to find a good one and the attitude of the staff in some of them is dire.

I’ve finally settled on a place that’s not so local, it’s 35 miles away, but their attitude and service is spot on and their prices aren’t too much over internet prices.
If more LBS had decent service like this place, they’d do far better.

As for whether the sport will survive or not, I’m sure it will but lower level racing will probably suffer if the LBS’s aren’t about to sponsor the events.

    How about Joey Dunlop?

    26 TT victories,
    24 Ulster GP victories,
    13 NW200 victories.

I think it’s fair to say that he pretty much dominated road racing!

Perfect, it sounds easier than I thought…..except for the sealing the bead which sounds like a bit of a pain!

I’m probably going to be using Schwalbe Nobby Nic and Racing Ralph Evo folding tyres, should these be ok?

Check with your mates and see if any of them have got a Halfords Trade Club card. If they have, use that to buy the battery then an expensive battery becomes a cheap battery and you still get your 5 year warranty.
If you’re in West London, let me know and you can use my card.

Currently most of my riding is trail centres but starting to head out more to things like Surrey Hills and planning on getting out on some weekend blasts to Wales and the likes.

I’m looking for the best of both worlds really but obviously there’s no perfect do it all bike. I’d say I’m looking for more of a trail bike than an XC bike but something that can do both pretty well.
I’ve had a test ride on a Tope Fuel EX 5 but really wasn’t impressed with it compared to the Stumpy. I’m not sure why, it just didn’t feel right.

wisepranker good offer but need a 645

What tyre size are they for?

I’ll check the ones I’ve got and see if they are suitable as there’s some overlap in the sizes as far as I’m aware.

BTW, if you’re after some, I’ve got a couple of sets for sale 😆

I’ve used Autosocks in the past and they’ve worked really well on both cars and vans.

If you’re getting some, it’s proably worth getting them soon as everywhere’s sold out when the bad weather’s arrived that past couple of years.

It beggars belief that any GP would not have a decent ECG machine these days. The NICE guidelines on angina make it clear you MUST do an ECG immediately when you see a patient with a new presentAion of chest pain.

But in the eyes of lots of GP’s it’s far cheaper and easier to call 999 and get the big yellow taxi to come and do your job for you!

Unfortunately It’s something I come across fairly regularly, as well as patients sitting in the waiting room (and on one memorable occasion, sitting on a wall outside as the surgery was closing) who are having a suspected MI

Things like that are regular occurrence’s down here in London. I’ve seen countless suspected MI’s or CVA’s sitting in waiting rooms while the GP has seemingly vanished when they try to find him for a handover. I’d best not mention the one who was attempting CPR on the patient while the patient was virtually trying to fight him off 😯

I don’t know any GP surgeries which do not have at least one ECG machine. I haven’t heard of anyone being sent up to a hospital by a GP for an ECG for about 20 years.

I’m not sure where in the country you are then because I can name at least 8-10 GP surgeries in one area of NW London alone where they don’t have an ECG machine and regularly call 999 for ambulances to take patients to A+E for an ECG. there’s also a good number of GP surgeries where they do have ECG machines and can’t interpret the ECG.

Once all nearby car parks have introduced a fee, every layby, verge and other spot of land available will get parked on. The council will then have to act because of inconsiderate or dangerous parking in the area, resulting in miles of yellow lines and bollards in all surroundong areas.

Exacltly what’s happened around Virginia Water. Every weekend during the summer the lay-by’s and verges are filled with the cars of people who don’t seem to like having to pay the couple of pounds that it costs to park there for a few hours. The funny thing is that loads of the cars on the verges etc are expensive Merc’s. BMW’s and the like so it’s not like they can’t afford it!

I can’t see problem with having to pay for parking as long as it’s reasonable. If it isn’t, I’ll just go elsewhere.

Daisy all purpose cleaner from Tesco, costs about 99p for a litre or so.

Dilute it 2:1 for stubborn stuff of 4:1 for general cleaning.

Sounds a bit like you’ve got a urine infection. Apart from the pain when urinating, you’ll usually find that your piss smells really strong!

Best thing is to go see your GP tomorrow or a walk in centre today and they’ll check it for you. If it’s an infection they’ll give you antibiotics and it’ll clear up in a few days.

Lots of grants available for cavity wall installation, had mine done the other week for £99 and it’s made a huge difference.

Same here, we had our walls done last year December and the difference was noticeable straight away, well worth the £120 or so that it cost.

217.5 hours + 60 hours for Bank Holidays.

Due to working 12 hour shifts, I only work the equivalent of 15 days a month so if I use the annual leave right I can get some nice long runs of tie off work 😀

It’d be interesting to see the results of the survey, I’d imagine that from reading it it’ll appear that no-one litters as I can’t see many people answering the question to say that they just chuck the gel wrappers on the ground.

I reckon that what you need for gels is some kind of a syringe with the gel in it. You can get it out easily rather than squirting it out of the wrapper ad they’d be reusable as well 🙂

Anyone know how many ‘jumpers’ a tube driver drives into per 10 years/career? I bet that’s hard to put a price on.

EDIT: isn’t the internet great? Apparently an average of one every 10 years.

Personally I feel more sorry for the Ambulance Technicians and Paramedics who have to go under said trains after they’ve hit someone to try and save their lives, however futile it may be, while being paid just over 50% of what the tube drivers are earning.

That’s hard to put a price on.

The more I read about the different maps available, the more confused I’m getting!

If I were to upload the trails shown on this Swinley map to an Edge 800, would I be able to navigate the trails with the 800 or is that expecting a bit much of it?

Do you use the openstreetmap in place of the Discoverer ones or do you need them both?

Does the openstreetmap mapping work well on road as well as off road?

I was looking at the Exposure Six-Pack yesterday at the show but can’t justify £400+ on a light.

Does anyone know of anything close to the spec of this but for less £££’s?

Oh right cheers mate, i have found a juicy lever rebuild kit for £9 which appears to have 2 of these screws in so i have that as a last resort!

Where did you find the rebuild kits?

I’ve been looking for some but not had any luck so far.

I went there today and was pretty disappointed.

The shopping area was tiny and the stuff that was being sold was either tat or the same price as the shops. The only good bit there was the place selling the Oakleys. They had some decent bargains there so if you’re after some tomorrow you’ll need to be there early.

The rest of the show was distinctly average, some nice bling on a couple of stands but nothing to get excited about.

The off-road test area was ok but the bikes I tried seemed to be on their last legs. The road bike test bit had some nice bits of kit to play on but it was hardly worth the effort when the ‘track’ was a 500m long lap of a car park!

I was lucky ‘cos we got free tickets but if I’d paid for it I’d be pissed off!

the government has miss spent not over spent. Its like they spend 5 grand on a bike and its got a slx crank and tora forks.

That’s the best analogy I’ve ever read when it comes to government spending 😆

Turns out the fridge was another Beko.

But the Fire Brigade have already ruled out the Beko fridge freezer as being the cause of the blaze. They’re focusing on a second freezer but they don’t know what make or model it is.

For a couple of days a year in the south I don’t think they are really worth it. Maybe if I lived in scotchland.

I agree, round London most roads seem to be reasonably well gritted and clear. I’ve never felt the need for winter tyres yet but tried some Autosocks last year and was impressed with them. They’re a damn sight cheaper than a set of tyres as well.

If your GP is that bad, take the kid to your nearest NHS walk in centre and change your GP.

I posted a reply earlier but it seems to have vanished!

Can anyone recommend anywhere to get After Effects and Trixtor for a reasonable price?

I currently use Final Cut Express but it’s a bit too complicated for me!

I just popped into our local pharmacy to get some Ibuprofen to be told that Cuprofen was generic Ibuprofen. Not at £2.16 it’s not!

No, Cuprofen is just another brand like you say.

Try somewhere like Tesco, they do own brand ibuprofen for about 30p for a box of 16 tablets. They also do generic hayfever tablets which can save a huge amount over the cost of the branded stuff. The stuff I get is usually about 75% cheaper than the branded meds!

No difference whatsoever between a branded drug & a generic. If there is a choice, go generic everytime. In the NHS there are very few branded drugs in use, unless the drug is not available in generic form.

Bizarrely, the NHS still always use branded Gaviscon rather than the generic stuff. Not sure why but i read that it’s reckoned to cost the NHS millions every year which they don’t need to spend 😡

The only issue you might have with the rears is that you’ll need a piston winding tool to wind the caliper piston back it.
You can sometimes manage without one and use a combination of pliers, screwdrivers and brute force but it’s not always easy!

If you want to know the affects that changing the gearing will have on the engine rpm/speed try looking on gearing commander:

    http://www.gearingcommander.com

I changed my R1 to -1/+2 gearing and it was mental….completely ridiculous! I eventually went back to standard rear and the -1 on the front.
One thing to remember is that it’ll affect your speedo reading on most modern bikes. The R1 was about 16% out from the actual speed so I ended up getting a speedohealer to recalibrate the speedo.

First off, good luck to your Mum.

Secondly, like others here have said, contact Macmillan Nurses and also try Marie Curie. I deal with Nurses from both of these organisations quite often at work and it would be an understatement to say that they are absolutely fantastic. Always helpful and friendly. They’ll be able to tell you everything you need to know.

I don’t know why people have such problems bleeding Avids.
I bled my Elixirs following the instructions in the bleed kit and it was a doddle 🙂
