I dont have much of an opinion on that kit (although I doubt it took a long time to come up with) but **** me I found two consecutive posts by RealMan funny 😮
I like Rapha socks and my rain jacket is awesome – and has special pink signalling bits to attract the attention of young chaps on the train and tube. Hopefully this makes me a bad person in the eyes of the kind of miserable old sods who give roadies a bad name…
winterfoldFree MemberThis time of year 16km to train, put bike on train, 12km in London, same on the way back. So that’s 56km/day in new money.
Four days a week. Come rain or shine (praise be for the Rapha city rain jacket, Exposure Diablo and Red Eye, mudguards and overshoes).
In the ‘Summer’ ie BST I go to a different station and its 20-22km with some ‘hills’.
That’s what the London Overground does to you 👿
It is knackering and can be grim I eat 3500 calories/day and still struggle to put weight on (I was pretty sick last year and need to put some weight on).
It is curious sign of the times and where I live that in all that inner city mileage the most dangerous thing I regularly encounter is a badly drive Ocado van out in the sticks.
Having ridden my bike to work at various distances over the last 15 years I reckon 9-12 miles each way is a nice distance.
(20mph avg in London – yeah right – maybe if your definition of average is something other than (total distance/total time)).
winterfoldFree MemberI need a rocket up my arse before I’m Queen of that. Not even in my age group, but STW forumites – probably.
Anyway, I’m working right now and just came on here for some light relief, oldgit’s Rapha hate was quite good but I nearly spat my coffee (Rapha mug present from Jnr 😉 ) when I saw this.
Dave Taylforth’s first post isn’t far off the mark…
Ive got some used minty arse lard you can borrow if you do take it up.
winterfoldFree MemberI can’t be ar5ed to read all of this, but it’s got to be the OP trolliing? If not – thank you God.
winterfoldFree Memberloony
the missus has suggested a family holiday to Vancouver next Summer, playing it cool, if I agree too easily she will suspect
winterfoldFree Member“bikebouy – Member
I drive past Hurtmore, drove past it this morning actually on my way to another office, but hey.. and I’ve often wondered just what it’s like to ride “them there hills”.
I shall pop up one day soon, looks like you are having fun and by the looks of it it’s similar to where I ride now.”swapped ‘fin’ for ‘bike’?
If that is you then it’s better than further south, drop me a line if you want to come up, or if you fancy having your arse kicked on your road bike.

I have spent quite a bit of the 10 months this thread has been going nearly dead – it’s interesting how little things (and opinions and surrey hills thread memes have changed).
Has the sustainability of John Watson-Supernova been slagged off yet?The Surrey Hills will still be there long after we’re all gone.
winterfoldFree MemberI would ring Exposure rather than email them. If you have warranty stuff ask for George. I do not know what happens to their email but you can actually ring them up and speak to a real person. I know that’s a bit wierd and doesn’t give one the chance to sound off on the Interwebz (when there is a person who stands behind their product and will sort it), but there you go.
I have just had a red eye replaced on warranty no hassle.
If the battery rear is as bright then I have not used anything else that comes close, motorists definitely give you more room.
winterfoldFree MemberYou do see some drivel in these threads but whoever wrote ”bibs probably too hot” needs to be introduced to their arse and elbow.
OP you are clearly a bit of a self conscious girly so just go with something straightforward and decent value.
Dhb is good kit and when you do hanker after something with a bit more style it mix and matches well with more £££ italian stuff as the colours and branding are discrete.
But at the end of the day no one really gives a **** amaxingly normal people get the idea that people on bike wear Lycra like rugby players wear rugby shirts and you put trunks on to go swimming.
winterfoldFree MemberThe Brays are great and anyone having a cheap shot at a fellow rider for expressing their gratitude to them is a bellend who doesn’t understand the difference between respect and serfdom 🙄
winterfoldFree MemberThe tour is way way more important than the olympic road race. I don’t believe Cav would prioritise the olympics over green in the tour.
Rubbish. This may have been the case 20-30 yeas ago but it certainly isnt now.
Spartacus: Cancellara has long stated that his primary objective for the summer is the London Olympics.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/cancellara-happy-with-progress-after-swiss-tt-winBoonen: Tom Boonen, the season’s top one-day racer, has decided to skip the Tour de France to focus on Olympic gold in London.
http://espn.go.com/olympics/cycling/story/_/id/7936723/tom-boonen-skipping-tour-de-france-put-focus-2012-london-gamesIf a BELGIAN is skipping the Tour to focus on the Olympic RR I think we can safely say that, these days, it’s a big deal…
winterfoldFree MemberThe one going down the other side (past St Barnabus) got flagged too. **** knows why, I came across some mentalists in the middle of the road down there once, but I dont think they could be considered a permanent hazard. Presumably someone tried to go fast and got a runny bottom at some point.
a new segment has appeared – it is now called ‘watch out for the hairpin’ 😀
winterfoldFree Memberdave – Sorry about that, but I just felt there was a chance (however slight) of someone taking a chance on that right turn. I think someone has flagged your new segment now (which I think was fine), Im guessing they dont like the tip traffic?
That tip traffic was there a long time before Strava, as was bombing down that descent like a hoon. We know the risks.
winterfoldFree Memberthere is a guy on ebay sells a homebrew headset tool which makes the job doable. search the forum for ‘homebrew headset’ if that doesnt work try ‘ghetto headset’.
It is worth taking time over though and making sure the cups are 100.00000000000000000000% lined up, and can be a bit nerve-racking (I just did it on my new Transtion frame and I was about as nervous as going shark diving, er first time on the job, witnessing childbrith etc) but it is doable.
If the various headset tools you can get for £30-40 worked with Tapered headset I would have got one of those, but becasue they didnt google led me to here and the £3.99 scally homebrew headset device.
Hurrah for STW
(its the thing Palmer77 linked to while I was writing that)
winterfoldFree MemberThey probably need to accept it is doing 50 mph in a 30 limit that killed him. Doing 50mph/80kmh on a bike freaks car drivers out in a 60 limit let alone 30.
winterfoldFree MemberOCB – not so wierd when you know that worms are one of the buzzard’s favourite food (if you hadnt already worked that out)
I saw a weasel kill a baby rabbit at the side of the road recently.
There seems like there is some great potential for a amateur pornographer/lord of the rings re-enactment crossover scenario. If anyone has seen a naked bird being chased by a load of goblins or wizards I will be quite jealous.
In fact, could there be a few quid in er arty films of that sort? Helmet cam footage would definitely be worth some money to youtube etc
winterfoldFree MemberI have also been told to remove the extra over two when traveling back from France.
Never been told to take them out heading over there.
They were in my bike case (hold baggage).
winterfoldFree MemberThe post was addressed to ‘roadies’ therefore anyone answering other than ‘jersey pockets’ should not have replied.
Saddlebags – give me strength…
tube or tub under the saddle is the only permitted deviation from ‘pockets’.
winterfoldFree MemberGood news – Im not sure it’s as mental as you think…
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/list/Bike/United%20Kingdom/Wimbleball
Seem to suggest 940ish m of climbing – unless it’s a different course – but in any case what njee said. Definitely ride.
winterfoldFree MemberI image they’d say for looks and amazing tan lines, not that i’d know. Purely speculation…
Aye – due to injury haven’t been arsed with shaving and my tan lines are abysmal. It’s more humiliating than being overtaken by MTBers on 11″ DH bikes or beardies on singlespeeds . Oh woe is me.
OP as long as your are the other side of 75 and can still dish it out you’ll be fine.
winterfoldFree MemberLow end campag is way better than low end Shimano IMO less maintenance and lasts much longer. Its much less fussy about cable changing, you can trim front mech and multiple shifting.
However the last groupset I bought was when they were all Ultra Torque and lower end is something else now.
Asking this kind of question on Interwebz will only lead to conflicting answers and trolling…
winterfoldFree MemberAny route that starts in Lands End and finishes in John O Groats should be avoided – or vice-versa.
winterfoldFree Member(Alu Lezyne with the flexi hose only goes up to 9 but it’s enough)
winterfoldFree Member+1 Cycleworks Haslemere
If you join a local cub eg VCGH then their discounted prices are pretty competitive IMO
winterfoldFree MemberMine seems very particular as to which cable I use it with.
I’ve found one that works consistently and have marked it with tape so I know which it is.
winterfoldFree MemberGreat
Now rather than the subjective measures of ‘being a biffer’ and ‘sloth’ there will be a clear visual indicator of an MTBer out a road bike.
Sorry if 105 don’t stop you quick enough you lack skill and need to MTFU
Road bikes with them on will look rubbish as well. Zero panache. That is far more important than bling – but then you all knew that…
winterfoldFree MemberBS
that is “Shit Roadies who were MTBers say”
the reality is much more like crikey’s version (very funny crikey) – even down South.
I would never acknowledge someone spending a week’s wages on carbon wheels. A new bike might get a slight nod, but no more.
winterfoldFree MemberWhen I read this thread title I did think it was going to be a story of how Feel My Bottom acquired it’s alternative name 🙂
Thanks for the info.
winterfoldFree MemberIve noticed a few like that mudshark – and wierd stuff like njee’s road. I think it’s early days and bit buggy.
How do you delete them? I have a KOM on the road from Ewhurst into Cranleigh one where I left the GPS on as I was driving home 😆
winterfoldFree MemberDoes this change my riding next time I am out?
I can see there are quite a few what look like tactical KOM segments which shorten what I consider the legit start and end points of climbs, do you now ride to those to put people you know are slower back in their place?
But more importantly, do I ride balls out up segments I would have tempo’d up to gain a more respectable place in the league tables?
Eg I could do another 2-3kmh up Box Hill if I killed myself and threw up at the top – but that’s what TTs are for isn’t it?
One thing is for sure the dog will get left behind on 3 Amigos, Evian etc from now on 😈
winterfoldFree Membernjee LOL at your VAM of 3269 for New Road (8.5% apparently)
I guess there are a few bugs here and there which need sorting out…
winterfoldFree MemberIts brilliant isnt it? The social/gaming element makes a massive differnet
njee – are you incognito on there? I cant see any n…. j… on rides I thought we’d have in common.
King of Bookhurst Road – get in 😉 And, more sportingly, King of a climb in Nice nr my brother-in-law that will piss him off no end.
I can see the dog has a serious negative effect on my trail performance, it will either to speed up or get left behind when it goes in rabbit holes or after squirrels.
winterfoldFree Member+1 for AM41s – Ive got them, impressively weather resistant, wipe clean not quite as grippy as 5:10 but plenty of grip compared to eveyrthing else
I paid 45-50 cant remember exactly
winterfoldFree MemberThe Ribble may be brilliant, but imagine having the same bike as Realman?!
Ride some, see what you like, there is plenty of decent ones for that money, and you may find you can get something where people dont automatically think you are a MTBer out on their first road bike because its the new golf..
winterfoldFree Member“I am going on a scuba-diving holiday. How do I transport equipment such as airtanks and CO2 cartridges for buoyancy aid?
Air tanks for diving cannot be carried. Small non-toxic gas cylinders, for example those used for artificial limbs or in lifejackets, may be carried in the cabin or in hold baggage; however, you must check with your airline as they must approve the carriage of such items.”
http://www.heathrowairport.com/heathrow-airport-guide/heathrow-security/faqs
Flying easyjet from Gatwick to Nice (do it twice a year for 4/5 years) I have taken up to 4 in my bikebox and never been stopped.
Coming back from Nice, they (French security) always make me open my box after over-size x-ray and I have been told on more than one occasion that 2 is the limit and they have taken any more than 2 away.
But, if you want to be sure, give them a call.
winterfoldFree Membermine did this. i posted on here and was given some links to servicing videos and after cleaning and regreasing the pawls, lovely clickiness was restored.
If its full of gunk it wont click whether the pawls need replacing or not.
winterfoldFree Memberyou can take 2 if the guy checking your stuff is fully aware of the rules.
winterfoldFree Memberit is a shit bit of reporting/troublemaking.
Millar replied ‘poo to you sir’ on twitter – hardly sounds like he’s kicking off about it does it?
