i used some old u-bar locks buried in the concrete as a cheaper and still effective alternative to ground anchors.

this might help? (i give benefits etc advice as my job and the disputes team have been helpful in the past, rare for HMRC…)

was she getting just basic statutory maternity pay, or did her employer pay her more? (SMP is £128 ish pw)

is she in touch with any of her workmates who can explain what’s happening to them? (the same should happen to her)

does she get paid for washing the tea towels? maybe she just considersd the free milk her payment

if she does get paid you should just follow her home and stab her in front of her family. that’ll learn her. learn her good.

just wait for interest rates to start going up, which they will do at some point. that’s when real problems will start…

    junkyard is mostly right.

it sounds like she won’t get any contribution based JSA cus she’s probably not paid enough NI. no harm in trying, just to check. Even if she does get some, i think they take her 6 hrs pw into account anyway (i’d need to check the rules when in work tomorrow)

they might be able to get a small amount of tax credits, but i think it would be very small. check on entitledto.com

the only reason these programs are on the telly is to deflect from the real problems in britain. working age benefit claimants are about the only adults who haven’t helped cause the current economic problems.

the middle classes borrowing too much, banks going bust, baby boomers getting old. these are the real problems, but not ones that attention is drawn to.

no, lets just blame the feckless poor.

most welfare spending goes on those over retirement age, but no one looks at this, about how well it’s targeted or about whether any money is wasted.

from what you’ve said it’s likely that your income is too high to qualify for any housing benefit.

are you a full time student? if you are, do you get a 25% discount from your council tax?

    go to settings – applications.

look through the apps – some of them will have stored up lots of data and have caches without really needing too – you can delete these n free up space

well, not 100% sure that english council tax liability is exactly the same as scotland, but up here a resident landlord and partner are liable for council tax only. lodgers aren’t liable to pay.

go stick it to the man tomorrow!

did you lodge there while the owner was living there as well?

but they aren’t trying to get you to cycle more colin, it’s others they are trying to interest.

the map would be useless for navigation as it doesn’t fill in the gaps. but hey, it got bikes on the news and it looks kinda neat

did you read kit’s link druidh? the £100k wasn’t for the map…

i think it’s more of a publicity tool than a useful map. just saw a bit on the 6.30 bbc news about it. mr bike station sydenham used to be my boss years ago

seosamh77 – i think that singletrack back down from lochan fada is the trickiest thing i’ve ridden in scotland. it didn’t help my confidence that i was trying it on my own. steep, tight and rocky…

as you say tho, stunning views up there

so, 30 posts in and i’ve still no idea what the big society is. apart from a pointless pro/anti thatcher argument which doesn’t help at all

is fine – had it about a year and alfine hub has needed no maintenance (err, so far)

the brakes are fine, perhaps not quite good enough for mtb, but certainly enough for road stuff. I had to bleed one, but that was easy to do

i got mine on via bike to work, so was quite cheap. I’ve not tried to add mudguards or panniers so i don’t know if that would work

is that a better answer? (i’ve had my tea now)

have you read the petition kaesae? they’re talking about investing now, which seems even sillier

anyway, i feel more sorry for all the staff. i hope some/all off them get jobs in the new places. quite a few of them have been working there for years and there can’t be that many jobs in the area

    winstonsmith

it’s funny to see how their petition mentions that they want to invest in and improve their facilities now. perhaps they could have thought of that one sooner, and already had a cafe that couldn’t be replaced so easily

i sometimes give beggars money. i’ve a fair idea where it will be spent, but hey, that’s often p\rt of the reason they end up on the street.

it’s not correct to say that they should always be able to get benefits. there are times when people end up with nothing if they don’t meet certain conditionality or attend certain appointments. often these are the types of people who end up without homes.

jeremy i think a small number of people do have children because of the benefits/better housing it can provide. it is however a v small number and it probably amplified in mrs nonk’s world as she works with families in/around the care system

i think it’s also nonsense to say that the loss of £20.30 child benefit a week would put a middle class person off having children. This betrays a complete ignorance
