yeah but Stan’s a real bloke isn’t he? He doesn’t post anonymous threats on twitter, he smashes women in the face and threatens to kill them and burn their houses down in real life. Nowt wrong with that, eh stan?

Didn’t he have some mental health issues/depression?

On STW, as he’s a footballer then he’s fair game what ever the true story is. I bet he even drives a car badly as well.

    Burn him! Burn him!

so would have been much less vulnerable to fighters.

I’m not sure that would of been the case with a full bombload?
Also, the B-17 was supposed to be performing “precision” bombing (I know the reality was different)not sure if the Mosquito would of survived a bomb run with no defensive armament.*

I do love the Mosquito though!

*I am no expert so I just guessing really.

but you guys seem to have a balanced view on life

    That’s a joke right?

Any slightly “unusual” layout can effect a house re-sale. However, from a practical point of view it sounds like a good solution for your family.

It may make the bathroom almost completely useless though.

    The checklist is very simple.

Agreed. However, the bloke I was dealing with was a stereotype local authority bureaucrat. Quoting paragraph numbers and trying to make the whole thing far more complex than it is.

core – I really hope you’re not all like him, if you are then your office would be a grim place to work! :-)

I am where I am now, all I can do is photograph my sub floor and hearth before I lay the wood flooring and lay the slate hearth. I have no intention of moving for quite sometime, after moving home 3 times in 5 years!

In reality it won’t. No one cares, solicitors included.

5thElefant That’s quite reassuring. I take it you have bought or sold a property with stove recently?

I would question your building control department about why they will not sign it off, tell them you know other authorities do, and ask if they are part of LABC.

I have. They are adamant they are not going to sign it off. It was like banging your head off a brick wall! Their main reason is they say they do not have the expertise to perform commissioning tests, which is basically a smoke test. I have read the regs and the checklist seems extremely simple to me.

I hadn’t heard of the LABC, might try that route. Although it’s all a bit late now.

I used these to spec and design my flue fluesupplies.com

It came in at just under £700 for the complete flue system, running through the loft in a bungalow.

It is being fitted by my builders but I have a major problem as my Building Control will not sign it off. I was complaining about that on an earlier thread. It is being installed as per the appropriate building regs, pretty straight forward. The hardest part is getting the flashing and roof modifications good and weathertight.

The problem with no sign off may become an issue when I come to sell or if my house burn do. However, the building officer has left me in an impossible position. Basically builders on site, hole in my roof where an old chimney was and flue in my hallway.

The HETAS installers were quoting some ridiculous prices and I have heard some horror stories.

Apparently the HETAS scheme does not allow you to sign off work done by others.

I actually have 2 CO detectors. Although think the risk has been completely overstated.

They have no right to refuse to sign it off, using a competent person (i.e. HETAS) is only one way of demonstrating compliance.

I would agree in principle but if they do refuse what can I do?

I will be doing my own smoke test as in the building regs.

sign off the work for about 100quid

I wish, they were going to charge £250 but now I am getting a refund.

I’ll probably just fit it anyway and hope it doesn’t burn the house down.

France, Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands all sell beer at service stations.

    What is the problem?

A Weatherspoons at the services isn’t going to make one bit of difference.

FFS why not ban all pubs from having car parking? Isn’t that just the same?

More MoD storekeepers tales – A full set of Commercial diving equipment ended up in Afghan for 2 months. When returned the “waterproof” pelicase containing the surface electronic comms panels was full of water.

“Lost” a 40′ trailer load of heavy rigging equipment when transporting from Devon to Scotland. It never, ever, turned up!

I have sold a fair bit of kit on Ebay.

The vast majority of the buyers are fine. However, you always get some dicks.

Sold a cd deck a few weeks ago, buyer claimed the CoAxial digital output wasn’t working, wanted me to buy them a high end optical digital cable so they could use the other output! Told them to return for full refund, they eventually did, it all worked perfectly. Sold it a week later to a really pleasant bloke, who collected, paid cash and absolutely happy! It was a cracking deck as well.

Totalshell – where are you? I am in Kent.

If you are HETAS and willing to charge a reasonable rate to install a flue you can have the job!

From the stove to where it goes through the ceiling or roof could be std flue pipe then steps upto twin wall?

Yes it will be. A length of stove pipe up to near the ceiling.

I will be using the building control officer to sign off.

It will be installed as part of the building works, the builders are happy to do so and have had several installs signed off without using HETAS installers.

The HETAS guys seemed to want a day rate of about £500 per man per day, which is just silly.

If I trusted my brother, I’d just want cash every week/month with no documentation whatsoever.

    If I didn’t, I wouldn’t rent it to him.

    This +1

Why do they want a tenancy agreement from you?

Although anything involving family can get very complicated……

(from £100 to £300, for something I could make for £25 or less)

£25 to make. What about the heating, lighting, rent and rates for the workshop you make it in?

If ultimately sell it for £100 a £25 production cost isn’t that low. You have all kinds of costs to consider.

Now Oakley have a good business model, AFAIK a typical pair of Oakleys cost about $1 to make.

A 15mm compression fitting has a 1/2 inch bsp thread.

That is pretty standard on a tap and there are plenty of hose connectors that fit.

Surprised they have a vibram sole.

Why would it be a surprise that a foreign lawyer wouldn’t be able to practice in another country?

FFS you can’t use an English lawyer to buy a house in Scotland and it is a legal requirement to use a lawyer in Scotland but not in England.

Ireland has different law and is a different Nation State from the UK.

Why are you giving the troll more fuel?

He has not yet put up any coherent argument about immigration or the BBC.

He repeatedly suggests that I called him a Nazi, I didn’t. I googled SD-253 as it an unusual log in and he seemed a bit mental. On the first page, under images, is a German WW2 vehicle. This was actually in a previous thread and I asked if he was an APC or a breadmaker.

I still think he isn’t real and is possibly one of the people arguing with him!

    Well done great trolling!

    And I have bit again!

Anyone want to explain why H G wells wrote the story ?

    What does this even mean?

He wrote it because he was a brilliantly gifted futurist who could imagine things that was just way ahead of the technology when he lived.

My dogs were “pedigree” and if I knew I what I know now I wouldn’t go near a Kennel Club breeder.

Personally, the whole organisation is up it’s own arse and seems to have forgotten what dogs are really for i.e Companionship and/or working. The overbreeding is causing major problems for some breeds – King Charles, Bulldogs, Westies, German Shepard to name just a few.

There obviously are some responsible breeders out there, but there are plenty of very misguided ones as well.

I will await my flaming from dog breeders and showers. :-)

Currently in Italy and as it’s a Bank Holiday the Italians don’t do a lot today.

Just come back from a stroll.

FWIW I think you are a troll and have done quite well winding people up.

Don’t think your real. Ex military injured hero and all that, Britain for the British ranting. Just too stereotyped.
