Just been digging out old mbr mags and stumbled across a winter gloves test. The fox anti freeze came out top. Said you can happily use the thick airprene outer gloves on their own or slip the water proof liner on when the going gets wet. Says a warm and breathable glove with great feel on the bars too. Found them for £32 on ebay at biketart so gonna give them a try

I’m after the same advice. Had no feeling in my fingers for a couple of hours after doing the longmynd today!

Research so far suggests Fox antifreeze gloves or gore xenon gloves? Welcome feedback please all.

The streaming works fine, just don’t expect any new films on there. It’s the older film collection on demand unfortunately. If they could get the entire collection on there to stream I’d sign back up instantly, as it is, it’s not good enough.

If you call to cancel sky you can get the hd subscription for free. I rang up yesterday saying i wanted to cancel the package as I wasn’t prepared to pay £10 for the hd subscription just to watch the F1. Woman asked if she could look for some deals to keep me.

5 mins later she said I don’t have any deals on hd subscription but can do phone line rental for free for 12 months. £12.50 a month saving. So she added the HD subscription and my monthly cost went down a couple of pound. I’ve had the phone line for 10 months so not a new customer. If you’re in the same boat, give it a try!

I purchased a BaByliss For Men 7890U i-stubble Trimmer a few weeks back and it is superb. After a bit of research it seems to come up best overall. Can set length anywhere between 0.4mm (shadow) to 5mm with digital display. Battery lasts ages, really consistent cut and no pain at all.

Some reviews here and £39.99 is about as good as it gets. If you want to pick it up from a store, currys are doing the same price at the moment!

That should work but if it gets inspected I’d be paying another £50 on top which puts me off. Did they state delivery time scales?

Had a Raleigh mountain bike for xmas when i was 10. My mates all had bikes and we lived on them every day. I then had an apollo around age 12-13 with front suspension which bottomed out and hit the tyre lol. Then at around 14-15 I had a nice carrera hard tail which I remember was a nice bike. Messed around on it until 17 and the driving licence arrived and never touched a bike again until I was 22.

Walked passed a bike shop around 21-22, saw a £500 GT hard tail which caught my eye and thought I’d treat myself as I always said I’d buy a nice bike when I could afford it (£500 seemed a lot for a bike 8 years ago) Rode it to work a few times, left it for another year and then went to cannock with a mate. Turns out my cardio fitness was rubbish even though I was in reasonable shape, hit the wall, felt sick and went home having not enjoyed it.

Few years later (2.5 years ago now), my best mate from school moved in with his missus a few mins round the corner and he got me running the wrekin. After a few weeks of doing this he suggested we take the bikes. It was amazing fun descending and messing around. A few more weeks later he traded his hard tail in for a £2600 trek remedy 9. Suddently he had twice the descending pace I had on the GT and I decided I must have a full suspension bike.

2 months of research began and I finally stumbled upon a lovely Giant trance x with a anodized frame which grabbed my attention. The adventure started there, in the first summer we tried longmynd, cannock, brenin, marin, penmachno, llandegla, wrekin, east ridge. Looking back it was one of the best years of my life but it has been something I’ve kept up and love more and more and is now part of my life. Still have the same frame but with an entirely new set of components, forks etc and enjoyed customising it as much as riding.

I’m certain I will continue riding as long as health allows, the perfect escape from day to day stresses of life!

After having all 4 iPhones since they came out I decided to sell my iPhone 4, 4 weeks before the 4S was announced and I thought I’d give android a try as I’d been itching to have a go for a good while.

Initially I was really impressed with it. The difficulties I was having I initially put down to me not being used to using it. However, after 4 weeks I really disliked it and it felt like such a relief to go back to the iPhone os. Biggest problems for me was I found typing awful on it to the point I couldn’t be bothered to reply to text messages as it was so much hassle. The bottom row of the keyboard was just too close together and I ended up putting full stops instead of spaces, pressing the remove keyboard button and cancelling out of messages.

Other problem for me was internet browsing was just nowhere near as slick as the iPhone. Again, the result was me spending far more time on my laptop and getting frustrated with the phone.

I also found the battery to be awful but I suppose thats more down to the HTC than the OS?!

Back with the iPhone i love it more than i ever did before, more down to how thankful i am to not be using android software again. I know loads of people love it but it’s definitely not for me and will stick with what works for me in future.

Was nice to scratch the android itch though…

I’ve changed most parts on my trance x. Last change was to put rock show revelation team u turn 120-150mm forks on. I went with u turns as I could put the travel anywhere between as I was scared I may ruin the geometry. As it happens bike is best at 150mm. I took 20mm of spacers out to lower the bars.

It’s perfect now, 120mm gives a lovely low front for steep climbs, feels sweet at 135mm on trails and 150mm on descents has transformed my descending speed. Sometimes I run 150mm on flats and climbs and it still feels great. Much more fun and willing to take off on bumps and jumps.

I’ve had every iPhone since release and at the end of iPhone 4 life I was itching to have a go with the android os. Sold the 4 and bought a HTC to have a try. At first I was really impressed with it, free apps, less restriction etc. some great apps, loved the friend stream.

After 3 weeks I ended up being pretty frustrated with it, always wanted it to do things how the iPhone did it. I found texting much harder and found myself sending far less text messages because of it.

My biggest frustration was surfing the net on it, nowhere near as smooth or nice to use. Again I was on the laptop far more than before.

I’ve since sold it and gone for the 4S and I love it more than ever. I’m glad I had a try of android as I’ve scratched the itch. It has however made me love the iPhone even more. It helps that this one is so so polished. Instant doing everything and god that retina screen is great to behold again.

Android wasn’t for me but is miles better than the windows or blackberry OS’s.

Different strokes for different folks though

I just think 150mm will be taking it a little far? 140mm will certainly effect the geometry a bit but have 50-60mm of spacers which can be removed to lower the handlebars so the front end isn’t too high. Don’t know what to do, suppose I could buy them at 150 and lower them if I don’t like it

Cheers, just watched some vids and it doesn’t look too bad. Can anyone confirm the needed spacers are already inside the fork and just need repositioning?

745 v ones currently. Feel perfect and would never go back to narrow bars. Started off with 660’s which I reluctantly changed to 710mm and wow what an improvement. Then I tried a mates v ones 745 and had to get some:)

[/quote]It’s a voucher, comes straight off your bill.

You can get a new code if you remove the facebook app and add it again too.

I aware of that but it wouldn’t allow me to input it at checkout so i emailed them after i did the order and they replied with what translates as a £10 credit note. However, I’ve no idea how to use it as it isn’t on my account?

To everyone who’s had a credit for the 10 euros. I’ve had one which reads as credit note but it’s all in German. Is it a 10 euro refund, voucher, credit note? If so, how do you use it?

    Thanks,

I’ve done 30 miles on them over the weekend and I’m blown away by their performance. Running 203 and 180mm discs the power and modulation is incredible. I assume they’re running on sintered pads so I ordered some organic as ive always found sintered to be pretty rubbish, in this case they are perfect, even from cold.

I do have a little air in the system however:( doesn’t effect normal use as the levers are perfectly firm but when I lift the bike onto the rear wheel to squeeze through tight spaces and press the levers they go soft so I’m assuming the air is rising into the levers. Will opening the valve on the lever and pushing fluid through from the caliper be enough to push this bit of air out?

    Cheers

Turns out i just had too much fluid in the rear brake. Pushed the pistons out, took the lever off, pushed the pistons half way back, reattached hose and continued to push completely back. Now feel perfect.

My first impression is how powerful and solid they feel. Looking forward to my first proper ride tomorrow :-)

Cheers for the advice, never for a minute thought id get a bargain set of brakes and get away with no labour charge 8)

Cheers for the reply continuity. It does feel like the system is over full but wasn’t sure that was possible. If I push one piston in the other comes back out.

Is removing from the lever the only way of removing fluid from the system?

I thought you had to push the pistons out so when you reconnect the hose pushing the piston in pushes air out. If i’ve already pushed it in I won’t be able to do that if you understand what i’m trying to say lol

As above, cheers for posting the link. I’ve been looking for brakes to replace my ageing hayes stoker trails for almost a year now. Was set on some X2’s but having use of some recently I was shocked to discover a real lack of power. Once I saw this link I ordered without any more thought :-)

Ordered wednesday and sat on my bike now, stunning service. I got my free mug and a couple of packs of their own brand energy sweets which look lovely.

I have no mechanical skill but managed to fit them this afternoon. I swapped and shortened the cables and the front one is perfect. On the rear one however I cannot get the pistons to push fully in so is dragging on the disk and the lever bites instantly where as the front has lovely progression. Have i got air in the system and is the only fix getting them bled?

For those who think they’re ugly, i disagree, a lovely bit of well engineered silver. Very impressed :-)

I’ve been running a snakeskin nobby nic (2.25) on the front and a snakeskin racing ralph (2.25) on the back for the past 1000 miles. Fantastic combination, really fast and no issues with grip and I’ve ridden xc, downhill, sun, rain and snow. I’ve tried loads of tyre combinations and although expensive, the best combo out there for me.

Another bonus is touch wood, I’ve never had a puncture with these tyres whereas with high rollers I had 4 punctures in a week before I binned them!

So if doing Brecon the gap is the one to do then. How easy is it to follow, take it a map is a must?

Martyn, what routes should I be searching for with the peaks? I have a MBR map for Hayfield. I’ve noticed Jacobs ladder looks quite a challenge. I take it all the good routes are in the dark rocks area?

    Cheers for the replies all

I ride it quite often as it’s only 45 mins away. Did it last night as it happens and I’d say it’s well worth a ride. It is really battered at the moment, holes everywhere but if you enjoy biking, jumps, holes, drop offs, the odd surprise it’s well worth doing. I’ve ridden most of the trail centres and while not quite up there with Brenin, its just as good as Llandegla and far better than the marin trail.

The downhill route at stile cop is also great fun although a good 10-15 car ride away from the monkey and the dog
