I’ve no issues with Halfords or boardman bikes. Boardman bikes for the money cannot be beaten imo. Excellent geometry, great spec and nice features such as smooth welds make them stand out from their competition.

I fancy a 29er hard tail as a second bike for long mynd type rides and the 29er pro is at the top of the list.

As far as Halfords go, big chains like this don’t feel the pinch at swapping frames or spending labour resource swapping over components etc for warranty jobs so just sort the customer out. Yes they may have monkeys but go above them and they will bend over backwards to help. Less cash rich lbs in my experience act with their own profit in mind and some times means as a customer we get a pretty hard time while they see if you can be fobbed off

Happened to me a couple of years back on a xt 785 rear brake. Fluid was leaking from where the hose connects to the calliper and running onto the pads. Luckily a warranty job for me

Yea I figured they were oem when the site stated no pump, extra seals etc. Wouldn’t put me off, I’d rather save money and get a better deal

Awesome mate, finally rid of my formula t1s brakes

Xt-785’s b-specs with finned pads, ice tech rotas for £150 :-)

Me and my mate with the same brakes are finding the same issue. Lovely power and modulation but noisy in application. I think I’m going to try some organic pads as i never had much luck with sintered pads on my xt-785s. Organic pads transformed them to smooth and quiet so hoping this will will do the same with these

I’ve just got back from llandegla and it was lovely today, in great condition and lovely and fast. Was one of my best rides in years (new bike feeling probably helped). Going cannock on sat so interested in how the conditions are

I’ve gone from Vaults to saints and i find them equally as good. Saints perhaps more durable, vaults are lighter. If they were both the same price I’d take the saints. At half the price it’s a no brainer imo

Just applied invisiframe on my hpc 160 and you can barely tell its applied. Got the matt kit to go with the matt finish and even though it’s expensive, it’s only a small investment in the grand scale of things to protect the finish

Picked this up the weekend, 650b stereo 160 HPC race. My first 650b bike and first carbon bike. First impressions are a fun year ahead

I’ve been a few times and walkers really aren’t an issue just make sure you ride at the right times.

Llanberis route is the best route up. The best route down is dependant on what you’re looking for. I’ve done both the rangers route down and llanberis. Rangers is much more technical, much harder on the arms etc and also slower (suppose depending on skill)

Llanberis is fast and still has good technical sections. It’s my favourite as the flow is far more fun than the broken rangers descent.

Beware though, if you’re running tubes, get the pressures up as pinch flats on the sharp rocks is inevitable

Well I’ve had 2 ipads and after using one, the nexus will be replacing the ipad. IOS is shockingly dated these days, after 5 years and very few changes it feels a little basic whereas android lets me play around a lot more :D

I disagree with the above poster stating the original iphone was utter rubbish. For me it started the revolution of smart phones. My biggest problem with iPhones is that they have stood still and not continued to push the boundaries. When the original iphone came out i had a sony k850 and I couldn’t believe what the iphone could do.

I’ve had every single iphone since and sold my 4s around 5 months back and used an s2 for the past few months as a stop gap between 4s and 5 and honestly, it blew me away. Far better than the iphone in every way (apart from build quality), the amoled screen, correct aspect ratio 4.3″ screen which is perfect, fast, thin, light.

I ordered 2 iphone 5’s direct from apple, one for me and the other half. Both are being collected tomorrow as we’ve both found them to be a massive let down. Mine came with a mark on the bottom edge and apart from the panoramic mode on the camera, there was very little to like. Blacks were poor on the screen, new screen size made it feel thin, long and uncomfortable to hold and my biggest gripe is that the os has hardly changed in 5 years and feels dated and basic.

I use a mac and would never consider using a windows pc but I honestly cannot see myself owning another iphone unless they revamp the OS and sort out the screen size. A shame but I’m looking forward to seeing £1058 back in my bank account.

I find removing the saddle and cleaning the clamp out and re greasing it sorts mine, have to do it every 6 months or it starts creaking again

Brilliant, yep its the standard post and I cannot wait to not have to sit on that saddle again :D

If the seat post on your Cube is the stock Easton one – the saddle will fit fine…

Basically the carbon rails are ovalised – 7mm wide like ‘standard’ rails, and 9mm high, wich is why they dont fit seatposts with side loaded seat post clamps.

Are you certain of this as I really like that reply :D

Thanks for the replies guys, looks like I’ll have to wait for the £80 version to come back into stock.

Seems the contis are popular, pity they don’t do any coloured versions as I really like the look of the schwalbe tyres :-)

I’m looking forward to 4g although moving from o2 to 3 has been a revelation for data speeds on my phone.

My home broadband is 3.5mb with 0.8 mb upload.

On 3 network I get 5.6mb download and 3.5mb upload at my home and almost always have H or H+ data wherever I go.

Might be way off the mark but the missus was updating her one x a couple of months ago and it was stuck on the android screen for ages doing nothing. Turns out that HTC phone wont complete updates or restores when plugged into the mains?! Unplugged the cable and in continued to complete the update.

2011 with hose upgrade. Used for a year now without an issue. 2 mates have 2012 versions and again, no issues. Id buy another in a heart beat and i wouldn’t touch another brand. Went to alps recently, one guy had a specialised version which came with his bike which was broken the whole trip, another had a joplin which broke and one had the new fox device which although didn’t break was technically miles behind the reverb

I used to hate Cannock for the brake bumps but having just come back from a week in morzine /les gets, Cannock is silky smooth in comparison. You can lose a front wheel on some of the more popular runs!

I was an iphone man since the original and getting bored of the 4s i went into a phone shop to look at the s2 which seems to win all the awards (a few months back). Guy in shop showed me the one x and i was sold.

Lived with it for a couple of weeks and hated it. Battery was woeful if you used the screen at anything above 33% brightness. Suffered loads of drain from the os which didn’t appear until the 3rd update in the 2 weeks.

Build quality was woeful, they cannot build them properly. Dead pixels, dust under screens, yellow glue patches, inconsistent gaps around the display, battery problems, screen bleeding under pressure, faults go on and on. There is a huge thread on xda forum titled the returns and repairs thread and there are a number of people who’ve had to have 8 replacements to get a perfect phone.

I sold mine and went back to the 4S scared off android by the whole experience. Luckily I had the opportunity to buy a brand new s2 for a cheap price and I have to say I absolutely adore it. Much better battery, the amoled screen is an absolute joy, 4.3″ for me is the perfect screen size, 3.5 too small and 4.7 too large. I’m running a 64gb micro sd card in it so have almost 80gb of storage, you can buy and extended battery pack and its a much nicer looking phone than the one x and the s3 IMO.

I sold the 4s within 2 days of getting the s2 btw I was so sold on it and after another month or so of use I’d be surprised if the iPhone 5 has me opening my wallet.

PS download swift key 3 and the typing is as good as the iPhone. Pretty woeful until i found that fix

I’m off there thursday and I will think of this thread every time I start thinking I’m the biking god and get cocky. I’ve got a full face helmet, elbow and knee pad protection and I’m gonna wear them the whole trip and feel pretty thankful I’ve made the investment.

I’ve been thinking the same. Need to buy a bike bag for alps in 3 weeks, was thinking I might as well wait to save a tenner but nothing has come. I can wait another 10 days. Do they still put vouchers in orders as I have a small delivery coming tomorrow?

I have an iPad 2 and picked up a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 from currys for £169 yesterday. The idea is to give the tab to my parents to replace their ageing laptop.

I’ve been having a play and I’m very impressed with it. Matches the iPad in most respects, battery is better on the iPad and I’d say screen quality is better on Samsung.

The iPad has better app support so prefer it myself but there isn’t much in it at all. Android is far better on tablets than it is in on phones- well my experience of ics on a one x which was woeful

Happened on my xt which I purchased from rose bikes. It’s actually easier with rose as you just fill out the form, book your free return and they swap it over with a brand new brake. If you purchased in the uk you send to Maddison for repair which has been taking them up to a month, took about 9 days from sending away to receiving new one back for me.

I’ve got a giant trance x which with the maestro suspension is regarded as one of the best systems out there. Absolutely no pedal bob in the saddle and I never use pro pedal as it’s just not needed. I run with a 120-150 mm fork too which makes it great fun on the downs but still good on the climbs even at 150mm and of course at 120mm it climbs brilliantly!

Just wish apple didn’t take the piss in relation to marketing hype etc.

As much as it drives consumers mad with inflated costs, big lines of camped purchasers, it’s what every other business out there would love to have. My last iPhone purchase was very simple, went on the website when pre orders came online, ordered, lay in bed on release day until ups knocked my door.

Oh and if anyone is still considering a one x, give this a read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602538

Can’t say anything other than shocking. A number of people have had 8 exchanges before finding a perfectly made one. Luckily mine was actually perfect.

App updates or OS updates? The only difference there is that app updates occur faster and more reactively than apple ones.

Os updates. Luckily I had an unlocked version so got the updates quite quickly as with the locked phones the sw goes off to the operators to customise before release.

Mine came with 1.26, then 1.28 was released and then there was 2 1.29 updates within a week. The second ruined the phone. Another problem I forgot which is running on the xda site is that the phone once out of signal for a good while will stop searching for a signal. So for me this meant when I finish work where phones can’t get a signal, I had to put it I’m airplane mode and back on again so it could refresh. Apparently it’s a radio problem and everyone is waiting on htc for a fix but there is no word on how long it will take.

I’ll accept app updates are much nicer, hitting update all was very nice. Although iOS6 next week is rumoured to have adapted this

I recently went through the same situation. Have a 4S but have had iPhones since they came out and was really impressed by the htc one x when I saw it In a store. Suddenly my 4s looked old tech with its comparitively small screen and I’ve been desperate to try a difference os and having heard so many differing experiences of android thought I should give it a shot.

After reading some reviews I stumbled on a brilliant tariff with a free htc one x on groupon. I signed up and ordered the grey one. I spent 3 weeks using it and all I can say is im back using my 4S. The htc went on eBay last week and i doubt i’ll bother with android again. The phone was a nice bit of kit, lovely screen, nice feel but it never worked 100%. There is always new software on the way to fix issues. In 3 weeks I had 3 updates and the final one meant that rogue apps would start munching the battery at random points.

Battery wasn’t big enough, yes you can make it last but why have such a nice screen so dull you cam barely see it. My 4s was always on full brightness and never had any issues.

Speaker was too quiet and on the back. Sky go isn’t out on the ics android devices which was a big miss. Typing was pretty awful and was always swapping words for the most unlikely you could ever dream of.

It got hot when being pushed and every single app that I made a comparison with loaded quicker, ran smoother and looked more optimised to the device when on the iPhone.

I think my conclusion is android is like windows, an os which is designed to run on so many different hardware set ups it is never optimised to push the hardware like it could and therefore will crash and have many isusues.

I really like the look of the s3, bigger battery means it may last longer but I’ve already stumbled on posts with people moaning they can see the percentage indicator dropping very quickly with the screen on. But.. I’ve really really been put off now. Going back to the iPhone it felt 100 times better than I ever remembered, everything just works, no issues, no challenges.

I did love the one x in the beginning but my feeling towards it now is I wouldn’t wish one upon anyone.

Very Custom trance x. With adjustable 120-150 blackbox revs and the reverb it’s great fun going up or down

And if you’re struggling to get it to inflate, pop a tube in and pump up to 40psi to seat the tyre and then carefully remove one side of the tyre and remove the tube, then reinflate to test it will go up, use suds if needed. It’s actually much easier to pop a little section of tyre out and pour a couple of cup loads of stans in than mess around clogging up the valve.

Good luck, i will be replacing a racing ralph with a nobby nic later so fingers crossed it goes as easily as last time

    (missed the above post lol)
