In the world of the chainsaw curious I’m just amazed that this thread was started by mcmoonter – the king of the wood pile himself .

Not sure this helps either – My mum had rats some years ago and the council came and did the honours. This is a chargeable service now I believe. When they had baited and poisoned several the problem seemed to be sorted. No more sightings or scratchy noises from the loft. However there was a terrible pong from an obviously decaying corpse. We couldn’t find the body and called the council man back. He to couldn’t identify the source and left mum with a can to tackle the smell. It was an aerosol and it was labelled Rat Deodorant!

Going in tomorrow to look at it. Nothing obvious and water pump fine. Never had any issues at all. I have cared for this car!

Yes. Twice and thats why I believe there was another 20k in it at least. Never skimped on maintenance and don’t thrash it.

Think I’m going to be checking what they did through with them as the previous pulley tensioner and alternator clutch was what was rattling. That is as I understand it external to the cam belt. That was the previous work. That shouldn’t have affected the cam belt should it? Are the two issues unrelated?

It was the tensioner and alternator clutch that was replaced. Is that separate to the cambelt? Just feel f—ed off as its been so good and I’ve taken care of it. Was hoping to go to 250k!!

Just reporting in. Feeling pleased with myself. Alfa 159 has done almost a 1000 miles in 4 days of ownership and its brill. Noise and that grill is just so sexy. Not a break down in sight. Its a real adventure…..

Never liked the idea of a multi tool like these. Then in 2000 I was given a Leatherman Wave as a present and I now feel bereft when I don’t have it to hand. Most used parts are the small screwdriver, serated blade and then pliers. Never had any fault or complaint. Get one! No idea where from though.

Unless you’re proposing time travel as part of the question why kill either?

Their sins are in the past and hence nobody would benefit by their murder…

Simon Cowell on the other hand is a very real and present threat to Humanity…

You know this has just given me the greatest wake up call cooke a. It highlights where I went wrong as a parent. My daughter baits me with my greatest foes and she has a Facebook profile picture is of her snuggling up to a life-size poster of Cowell.

I’m stunned at the lack of invective about the Duchess of Grantham. After I’d finished my apoplectic fit I had to go for her. The carnage she brought to this country…… Lance: well its just sport. One I love so dearly but it is just sport.

For the time spent on prep and spray cans its better to get a cheap powder coat done. £30ish. It’ll be better looking and more durable. Place in Bletchley but I’m sure there are some in your town oldgit.

Think the steering mech is another breakable element and dragging feet achieves much the same. Defo agree about plenty of smooth surface area in UK conditions.

Legend – where can those be obtained? Is it any good?

The adaptation of some old skis or snow boards is a possibility. Agree that the traditional bent wooden runner type just doesn’t cut it. Was starting to ponder forming some plywood runners, ski width but with bigger curve and a padded low platform joining. But smooth waterproof durable finish is vital.

Hadn’t thought of steering but those Stigas look good. But they require a really good amount of snow don’t they? In my dotage I tend to agree about padding as I also like to lie on my chest for the snow up your nose experience.

I’ve used boxes before but whilst they’re good value the EVOC in use is just so much less hassle. Where are you and when do you need it? Might be able to get one for you when I go to Holland next couple of months. It saves you about £40 on what you pay here.

    wingnuts
    Full Member

I’ve had several over the years and the EVOC I have now is by far the best. Wheels to pull through the airport and good padding to protect the bike. I’ve had road and a 29er hardtail in it.

Not cheap, but I got mine in the Netherlands and paid in Euros what you pay in pounds here. Have you thought about renting if you’re not going to use it other than on the trip?

Looks to me as though all the slates are on upside down. The nails shouldn’t be showing anywhere. This is likely to have been done by someone bodging a repair in the past. Water will always get through the nail hole.

Nails should be covered by the slate above and then the joint of that should be covered by an offset one above that. Its called triple bonding.

So that indicates the second option as the better choice, but you may have to replace some of the slates as they could have holes in inappropriate places.

Its not difficult to sort but you may uncover more rotten battens as you have been advised.

Go up and look when they strip back to see the real extent of the damage.

Good luck! (why not turn this into a footflaps saga?)

I really like Borgen et al. I think one of the elements that makes them compelling is that you have to concentrate because of the sub titles. You just can’t wander off and make a cuppa or you’re lost. That level of concentration is untypical of our involvement the the usual dross we subject ourselves to.
