Brilliant skills, of course. Mind boggling. But it’s got no humour and warmth like his early ones – it’s just an ad.

Thumbs up for FBPurity. I’ve used it for years – I had no idea how bad and unusable Facebook is without it. No ads, you can pick and choose what you want to see, and what not to see. And it’s free (but please send him a few quid anyway. No, I’m not affiliated.)

My house came with an already old Henry 24 years ago, the most expensive ‘hoover’ ever. It’s still going well, but for the shed/workshop only, not the usual household stuff. Henry picks up dirt, crud, damp stuff, missing bolts from my bike, bits of garden, coal dust, never clogs. It doesn’t do it brilliantly, still works when it falls over – it just keeps on going. Hose taped up with gaffer tape, various add-ons held on with fingers crossed. Sorry, I can’t answer the OP’s actual question…

You can though, calculate the speed of light using your microwave. Which is fun if you’ve bored kids who like science experiments.

    Ooh how. How? Yes please.

On a bike, Garmin. On foot, map and compass (with gps backup for when I “can’t get the map to agree” with the ground).

I got a SGS 6 litre compressor as well. It’s very good for setting up tubeless especially fat tyres. But I wouldn’t use it for any long duration work – they suggest a time limit of something or other that I can’t remember. And it’s noisy, so a quick ten minutes without disturbing the neighbours. But for its price and occasional use, good.

Have a look at Hurtigruten cruises. It’s a long established ‘bus’/cargo service that goes up and down the Norwegian coast, but is now popular as a fjord-hopper and they also do swankier cruises around the world. I also get seasick thinking about boats but I did one leg on the Hurtigruten a couple of months ago between ski weeks. I think I was on board for 20 hours and it was fun with five stops in between so I didn’t even bother with a cabin, but I don’t think I’d cope with several days on a ship although they do lectures and other stuff during the voyage as well.

Scenery is gob-smacking, was flat calm, good food, longer stops at places like Tromsø so you get to see somewhere too.

Two very distant Chinooks? I get them occasionally over my house which is close to a line from Northolt to Chequers.

OS sold TwoNav devices under their own name for a while, at the time I was looking to replace my Satmap 10. I didn’t go for TwoNav though – can’t remember why. Got a Garmin Explore because I only want it for navigation, not all the connectivity, meters and measurement stuff.

I’ve tried all sorts over the years, and Memory Map seems to be the only one which can show several tracks at once, so you can see what you’ve done and what’s left to do. Anquet, Quo, Tracklogs and numerous online ones show one track at a time. MM lets you put routes in categories so you can arrange them by area, or by activity, or whatever you want.

Why bother with aftermarket when you can get HP subscription ink? Our printer came with 12 months free subscription too.

Yes, good idea, but I print rarely and then it’s usually parts of OS maps (from various apps) to go for hikes rather than carry a whole paper map. A sub makes no sense for my volumes. The printer is also well past any ‘bogoff’ deals.

is this an issue with a particular cartridge? or have you tried several cartridges and had them all rejected?

No, it’s on-and-off. Sometimes if I turn off the wifi it works, sometimes not, no knowing how it’s going to work. Maybe it’s just the printer failing.

Will all of YouTube copy your FGF production values? It’s so crap, that’s why it’s so good – unmissable. More please.

@onehundredthidiot, @z1ppy thanks for the suggestions. Yes, the roofer that did some work a while back has one but he’s rushed off his feet, so I thought I could speed things up a bit.

If you can, book yourself an hour’s lesson in an indoor ski centre. You won’t learn much but you’ll get a feel for what boots are supposed to feel like, so when you go the hire shop in resort you’ll be able tell (a little bit better) if they’ve given you the worst pair on the shelf. That’ll make your first day of real lessons much much more comfortable.

And, like bikes,  don’t expect to become an expert on your first trip – there’s loads of fun to be had doing whatever you can, then go back for more next year.

OK, sceptics, I was protecting the gasman – he showed me a pinhole leak on the exhaust side, but all contained within the sealed unit into the exit pipe.

So yes something needs to be replaced.

I went with the new boiler, personally.

Thanks, yes seems like long-term but expensive is the way to go.

Our boiler is 30+ years old

Ha, indeed, my parents had central heating put in when I was about 3 or 4. The boiler had an open burner you could just stick your hands in(!) and lasted over 50 years trouble free. Modern gadgets, eh?

Combi I’d def replace at that age, you’ve done well.

    Condenser/combi. Thanks for the suggestion.

    is the boiler working/making a noise etc ?  What’s it doing ?

No obvious problem, but he says the exchanger is close to splitting. All exhaust is still contained and sealed though.

Anyone else remember Michael Foot wearing one to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph?

Wasn’t it a duffel coat he wore?

Good luck, Charlie. Early retirement is the business!

From a fatbiker with one-and-a-half Dorset Dirt Dashes (and a broken collar bone) under his belt thanks to you.

Run south, and keep going. (Lived in Aberdeen many many years ago…) Other than that, these suggestions – above – are excellent. And beach boulevard with Inversnecky for a nosh.

Yes, against my will initially. It paid for itself with insurance discounts. Also caught the ’guilty’ other driver in a no fault claim, and my footage helped with a crash ahead of me. Still feel pretty daft having it stuck up there on the windscreen, though.

Did it once on a baggy fat bike tyre. I can’t remember what I sprayed (paint lacquer?) but it went BANG and I had to flap around to put the flames out. Smell of burning rubber, and never repeated.

I use a Garmin Edge Explore with maps from Talkytoaster for MTB and hill walking. You can link it to various meters, also Strava and Komoot etc, but I don’t – just navigation using gpx files from my laptop mapping.

I had mine removed after about 18 months because it was very near the surface where my rucksac straps always are, and the docs were worried it could cause skin problems. Taken out, no trouble, well worth it for me.

They’re all based off the same OSM data aren’t they?

I think TT merges OSM with other stuff to create his own special flavour. And GB maps are weekly, but then outdoors features rarely change that quickly.
