Errrr, as far as i know its a tapered headtube, but the existing Cane Creek one has an external bearing cup rather than integral cup.

This is proving more complex than the meaning of life!! 8O

Bloody hell fella that’s not good.
If you go kielder it’s not too far to Hamsterly, Slaley Forrest or Newcastleton for a bit extra. Paul can probably give you some extra suggestions as well.

I’m 6ft 2″ with a large. Command seatpost pretty much at min insertion but i do have long legs.

I used to manage with a medium 2003 enduro but that was before i rode for more than a couple of hours at a time

I’ve never done it. I’ve only ever done Nan Bield from the Haweswater side. Looks a good route, although it seems a shame to cycle up Garburn pass rather than down it!!

Cheers. Not a bad idea. I noticed he had 2 friends on Pinkbike in a different part of the country. Emailed one of them to ask if they know him or have done business with him. Hopefully I’m just being paranoid

Another good tip is fuel well and early, I took a gel every 2 miles from 9 miles to 19 miles.

I fully aggree here. I didn’t and suffered massively with cramp once i’d finished.
I had a classic comedy moment stepping up the kerb where both legs locked with cramp and i couldn’t walk or maintain my balance. I wobbled for a few seconds before hitting the deck. Not my finest moment

I did Manchester as my first at the weekend as well. Managed 3:26 which i was over the moon with. Kept good pace to 18 then it dropped slightly up to 22 then the last 4 was hell.

All i can say is just ignore what you body is saying and keep moving. So many folk stopped and then struggled to get going again.

As for training i just focussed on keeping the pace i wanted and then upped the distance. Didn;t do many training runs below 6 miles.
My Garmin 910 shows pace at that moment so really helped to realise i’d slowed when following others who i assumed were going at the same pace.

    Good luck and keep smiling!!

Maybe I’ll give them to Lynton

We’ve already had that discussion this afternoon.
You sure you’re not just gripping too tight? I had that when my forks were knackered. Not had any problems since riding the 456 or with the new 55’s

I spent most of the ride at the weekend faffing with pressures, rebound, compression – nothing sorted it. Although I spent more time faffing than bloody riding!

I don’t remember any mention of the bars??? I feel harsh now, for restricting your fettling time.

Is this your excuse for not riding the bridge on Saturday??

My old man has had one for a couple of years now and it’s been faultless. He’s run impact wrenches, air chisels etc off it with no issue what so ever. He’s planning to use it to re-spray his MG once he’s finished sorted all the rot/rust out.

I’ve used it to seat tyres when my Clarke one wouldn’t and it’s worked every time.

If you’re not desperate for one, see if they sell out or not. I’ve seen one go for £50 in my local Aldi when the offer was over and they wanted shut of them

Good to hear Hora. I had a blast round LLandegla in the dark last night. According to Strava i seem to be able to ride faster in the dark than the light. I’m putting it down to the new forks!!

Anyway i ran 3 clicks of compression and one click towards the + from centre on the rebound. Felt awesome although i couldn’t see a thing as to how they were working

@hora, did you change the travel yourself, or get someone else to do it?? Just wondering if you had to doa full oil change or could get away without??

@tomaso, it’s an Enduro set at 170. Felt a little light on the front in comparisom to the old 160’s but also i’ve been riding the 456 set at 120 for most of winter so it was always going to feel a little interesting on the front.

We climbed/hiked/carried/pushed up to Nan Bield from the Haweswater side, then dropped down to Kentmere and then across and up Gatesgarth. As above, it felt a bit light but not too bad. I’ll make a call on dropping them after riding something a bit more familiar that i can properly compare the old forks to

maxtorgue – I think you’d be mad not to get tapered versions personally!

Not an option sadly when you’re frame only takes 1 1/8 otherwise the world’s your oyster

I went with about 3-4 clicks of compression with 85psi. The travel and brake dive was fine, but it did feel like i had a bit of “top out” when lifting the front wheel. Saying that though, it could just be play in the headset as i fitted them in a rush.

I found climbing a bit more of a challenge with the extra travel but i reckon just a bit more angle on the seat and it’ll feel fine.

This was the top of Nan Bield – A nice test for their first outing

Cheers for that. I’m thinking the same as the little bit of rubber didn’t look overly symetrical and don;t fancy cutting it and destriying it or causing more problems at a later date

I’ll take another look in the manual tonight.

    windydave13

I’ll give that a whirl at half way. think from memory there are 7 clicks of compression adjustment.

Perhaps i’ve missed it, but did anyone get instructions on fitting the spacer??

Mine seem ok at 85psi with my weight of 85kg.

They look better on the bike than they did in the box!!
