Might be worth giving a local glass company a call. We have one in Macc that mainly does windows but will cut different types of glass to size on the spot. I’ve had bits of mirror and stove glass cut for much cheaper than online.

Disappointed we’re 4 posts in and no one has mentioned Mr Firewood himself Pete aka mcmoonter

Look him up on Instagram. He’s the king of stacking and storing wood including old sheds, old water tanks etc.

I’ll try and post a pic of mine later

So much envy for your dry clean cellar with head height!! Mine is a damp mess with only about 150cm height so i have to bend to get in there.

One day, maybe one day it will be clean and less damp

I had similar on my SEAT last year. Turned out a seal on the high pressure pump had started to fail. Only in very cold weather or after being left would it take a fair few turns to get it going. New high pressure pump fixed everuthing

Another +1 for the Exeo. I’ve got a 2.0 TDI. Mines at nearly 130k and bar timing belts and a fuel pump failure last year it’s been spot on

they are going super cheap now

Once you’re at the Sale/Altrincham border you can easily jump onto the back lanes of Dunham etc and then cut across out towards Great Budworth and the like.

As others have suggested, train it to Macclefield and you’re straigh onto the Cat and Fiddle climb fresh off the train

I’ve got the TP Link powerline extenders in mine. For the extremes of the house it’s perfect but where is struggled was where there was overlap of 2 routers. Even though they have the same SSID devices see them differently and I’d get dead spots and issues with Wi-fi printers as quite often your phone would be attached to a different router than the printer.

Move got round this by changing the SSID for the router in the attic where the printers are and then live with a couple of dead spots.

If money is no issue, a few posts on here recently talk about how good the mesh Wi-fi systems are which get over the issues I’ve had above but it’s quite a hefty investment

I switched to one from my 26” Enduro a couple of years back. Considering how little travel it has, it’s a bit of a hooligan. The faster you go the better it goes. My only criticism of it is the shock as others have mentioned. I’m about 95kg but find even with the largest volume spacer and a fresh service it still rips through the travel on big hits. I know I can put more air in but then it feels a bit harsh. I’ve had the shock tune checked and it’s right for a single pivot.

You see lots with angle sets and the like fitted. Personally I don’t know why you would. I’ve never felt it needed to be slacker riding the likes of a coed Y Brenin, Macc Forest off piste and Singletrack in the alps

Would you hae to collapse it down every day when you store it at nursery? If so, the Aldi ones have several pins etc so would take a bit of time and whilst the likes of the Thule ones are quicker, i’m not sure how much all the bits would wear if you did it every day.

If you end up going down the Thule root, i got mine (Chariot Cougr 2) rediculously cheap from Addnature in Germany for £422 delivered. Given they sell for pretty much that secondhand i was pretty happy wiht it.

Its lovely to tow and a lot more comfortable for the little man with its adjustable suspension

As with Sidney when we bought our house (1890’s Victorian semi) I was concerned about damp in the cellar. The estate agent suggested a specialist who we got in to have a look. He suggested it just needed painting however when we pressed him for an official quote all of a sudden the cellar needed tanking and a whole host of other work. We never followed up with him and whilst when it properly rains like last month we get some water ingress it’s generally ok

The official one is called Peugeot Planet. Think I paid £70 for a cable and software off eBay many years ago. Strangely the Citroen version although using the same cable used a different software completely.

I used to have pump problems on my old 307. If its similar, they have a dual pump combined into one unit that sits in the bottom of the resevoir feeding the front and rear. I found it esier to just replace it than try and problem solve. The seals would go and the motor deteriorate.

If you do change it, ideally do it when the resevoir is low or stick a bucked under to capture all the fluid. They just twist in and out fo the resevoir from memory

Maplin was suggested to me when I was trying to get some for my Segment. It also took several attempts for Orange to advise and send the correct size even after talking directly with their warranty dude

is it defintely EGR valve? I had an issue with my SEAT 2.0 TDi that all googling suggested it was the EGR valve, so i stripper it out and cleaned it. You can buy specific cans of cleaner from GSF, so i used that and a tooth brush to clean it up. Don’t do it in the kitchen as its a horrible job and it stains your skin.

As i couldn;t see anything obviously wrong i ordered a new one off Amazon which was bizarly way cheaper than GSF, ECP etc even with their usual discounts. In the end i put it back on the car to test it and had the same problems. It was then i hooked it up to VCDS and found a small fault for a sensor on the fuel rail. I found the sensor and spotted that the plastic cam cover had chaffed the wires and it was shorting slightly.

In short, could be worht getting the fault codes read to make sure it is that and not a red herring. If your anywhere near macclesfield i’d be be happy to hook it up to VCDS for you to have a look

I asked similar question a couple of years back, but for a car that hadn;t run for a couple of years.

Could be worth a bit of an italian tune up, but also a full service if it hasn;t been done recently. I’m sure on one of the wheeler dealer episodes, Ed shows how a basic service (oil, filters, plugs etc) can make quite a difference to emmisions

This has come at the perfect time. I managed to get a rediculously good deal (IMO) on a new Chariott 2 that arrives today and was wondering what axle to get for my Orange Segment. I’d have never thought to click on the link. I assumed it was just a general installation guide

All fixed now. I tried to be lazy/clever when i got the guards and bought the plastic pre-formed arch. In short the shoulders on this where it clips round the guard were too wide and rubbing on the side wall of the tyre. The guard itself had loads of room but the arch only had about 1-2mm clearance on both sides.

I managed to find the metal arch that you have to shape yourself and gave it a whirl. Took about 5mins to bend/fix and has worked perfectly instantly. Loads of clearance now, even to the extent i reckon i could get my 25’s back in there.

I ovalised the cut out in the plastic bridge to raise it but it made little difference so I kind of put it back to where it was. The lit cake with a metal bridge that you had to shape yourself which I didn’t fancy so bought the proper plastic one. I’m wondering whether to give the metal one a crack. After 50miles commuting today and squeeking guards I was ready to rip them off and bin them

Sportpursuit have some HUUB and 2XS wetsuits on sale, but not sure if they are the thermal ones or not.

When i was dabbling in the world of tri’s, i picked up a speedo one for a little over £100 from what was Royals in wilmslow. Its done me proud on sea swims, lochs, rivers, lakes etc even in May.

If you’re cold, swim faster  :)

I’ve got one of the 2 seat Aldi ones. So far I’ve mainly used it for foraging firewood. I’ve not been very far with the boy in it yet but it doesn’t look as comfy as some of the ones 10 times it’s price.

At the end of the day it cost me £50. If we start using it loads I’ll look at getting something better

As superficial says try giving the 5GHz network a different SSID. We had some similar issues especially on the iPhones and iPads in the house. Since doing this all works fine. You just have to remember if you ever do a hard reset of the router at a later date it reverts these changes back to factory defaults

Given what you’ve said there about taking some cranking to get it going, have a look at the fuel pump. My Seat Exeo 2.0 TDI started to do that when it was cold or left for a few days. It turned out the high pressure pump driven by the timing belt was starting to fail and when left the fuel pressure would drop and require some extra cranking to get it going. That being said its unlikely to cause your stuttering as once pressurised it was fine. Could be worht popping the timeing belt cover at the top and have a look to see if you can see any fuel leaking

Reading all these posts makes me feel a lot better about my wee lad. Over the last 3 weeks he’s waking at 4am shouting his head off. Some days he’ll go back to sleep others he’s wide awake until I give in about 5:30/ 6. I’m hoping it’s just a phase. I can live with 6am starts but the 4am starts is killing me

I’ve never found Whinlatter that busy to be worried about others catching and i thought that the red/blue only followed the same trail for about 50-100m at the start and then it branched off, but i’ve never done the whole blue to be honest.

I’ve thought similar to yourself and wondered about riding up to the mid fireroad on the southside loop and doing that descent. Its wide and completly roll-able with no drops. You can then skip the very short bit through the woods at the end and cut through the car park back onto the main path.

I had a similar issue with my Orange Segment when i first got it (2nd hand) it could be the shock needs a full service. Are you sure the damping etc is all working correctly. One thing suggested to me was to drop all the air out of the shock, unscrew the air-an and then clamp one end in a vice. You should be able to push the shock through its travel by hand. Change the rebound etc to see if the return rate changes. if not, it probably needs a full strip down and service.

We have the same issue in our old victorian house. I got 2 of the TP-Link ones that use the ringmain as a data cable and then wifi sockets to extend the circuit. As folk have said where you have overlap it can cause issues resulting in full signal but not interent. Also wifi printers seem to hate them as although the network name is the same they’re not. In the end i’ve sacrificed internet in the kitchen and the distance betwen the main router and the far one is enough that devices propoerly swap to the correct network.

Another issue i had was the whole swithcing between the different frequencies. In the end i gave the 5Ghz a different SSID and all of sudden that improved things massively as well

I’ve got round the “winter” part by installing a big wood burner. When that’s running it will easily sit at 18 degrees regardless of the temp outside.

Summer is another topic. We have doors at both ends so just open them and out a fan on to push a bit of air through

Another +1 for cat food but on big nipper traps. Our cat is useless so its left to the traps to do their work. Last year i got about 6 in 2 days, but not had any for months until last week.

Irritiatingly for us, we have no chickens or food, but they still come back for more. I assume they’re coming in via next door who until recently only had half a roof and we could hear them in our roof spaces. It sounded like a family of bears was loose upstairs. Thankfully we don’t hear them anymore

I bailed at 65km instead of doing the 130km. I was frozen and never really warmed up after stopping to fix a tubeless puncture. Being cold coupled with tired legs I decided to call it a day before I got to the bottom end of the lake and being properly broken.

Looking back I’m gutted as it warmed up a bit and the 2nd half didn’t have as many long climbs.

Perhaps I’ll be back for next year with a bit more training.

I’m in for the 130. Not done anywhere near the training i wanted to do, so will play it by ear and cut short if things don;t go to plan.

For those holding up the rear, i’ll be the one in the bright pink Rapha top :)

I bought one of these off eBay for about £70 https://mountainbuggy.com/uk/Products/buggies/urban-jungle#.XJ4J9KSnyEc

its been perfect for doing park run including running over an old golf course and mud. It’s not overly light but tracks well and the little man seems quite happy. Only negative is the seat even in the fully up is still quite reclined

How handy are you with a spanner? The cataloytic converter failed on our old Beetle the other year. It cost about £140 from GSF car parts (currently got the usual 60% off). I swapped it out on the drive in about 1hr as it easily bolted together.

If you have the space and time, i’d at least jack it up and see how easy it is to fix and then make a call. Even if you buy the parts, you could take them back if you decide not to do i.
