    That was awesome.

…and Minaar only just got away with running single ply’s by the sounds of it.

So what’s new about this frame?

    44mm headtube
    1/2 inch longer top tube
    Lower BB
30.9 seatpost and dropper post cable routing
    Some nice looking detailing
Still 853 top and down tubes

Also trying to be patient here.

They do look great in medium I reckon. Green is totally the best colour. Nice bike.

Sorry to disappoint but slx and xt are now sold out at ribble. Deore supposed to be pretty much as good though.

Seriously, wet roots are slimy as all heck, no rubber compound will be much better than any other rubber compound on them

Hans Dampf were a revelation for me in on wet roots. Who would have thought you could find grip here? I’m not saying they work any voodoo magic but they definitely inspire a good deal more confidence.

RE: Conti MKII Protections, I have a pair of these. Probably my rear tyre of choice, but I’m not able to get on with it on the front. Sidewalls look worn out in no time at all but it doesn’t seem to affect performance.

I think I’ll be running my Slants at 140, once I get around to lowering them which is more of a pita than the Rockshox I’m used to as it involves pressing out the pin from the “ladder”.

…oh, and while your at it might as well do the newsletter unsubscribe and resubscribe thing, get them down to £359!

Edit: Though for what it’s worth, I think I’d stick with having the option to run them at 150/160.

What are they going on daveh?

daveh – if you are tempted by the 120’s then you may be interested to hear that at wiggle you can have them for £364 if you use the code paypal20, and both colours currently in stock.

    I’ll just leave this here…

The thread, I think we got a bit off topic!

daveh – give them a ring yourself. I ordered my 160’s yesterday and they arrived today on next day delivery :)

Mosey, that should make for a great bike. My similar but slightly different build:

    18″ White Alpine
    Hope Brakes
    Xt shifters/derailleurs
Hope pro 2 evo on flow EX
M660 SLX double, hope bash, blackspire stinger.
    XT Cassette, KMC chain
    Slants
Easton havoc carbon bars and haven alu seat post (until I can get some money together for a dropper!)

daveh – freeborn.co.uk In stock at £399. They’re just down the road from the distributor and the guy I spoke to (Michael) said that the distributor had about 10 pairs in stock (non DLA).

EDIT: Not sure why upgrade, wiggle etc have to wait quite so long for theirs.

I’m also bikeless. Well, I have my Soul but since its cracked at the chainstays and the headtube I might pop to the shops on it at best. Certainly won’t do for my up and coming trip to the Lakes :?

Not going to go far wrong with a full shimano transmission and brakes. Which did you go for out of interest?

Slants have arrived, they look very nice and have a quality feel about them. Certainly look a lot beefier than my Revs so I can see why people are saying they’re a good bit stiffer. Pleasantly surprised that they come in slightly under weight on my scales, 1887g with uncut steerer. I’m really just waiting for the frame now, the suspense is killing me!

+1. There has got to be a better option.

I’m in Birmingham, so I’m really considering the rounds that are within a few hours. Eastridge would be great but I’m off up to the Lakes on holiday that day.

Does seem disappointing that there isn’t a proper category for hardtails, are they really such a rare sight?

Does much overtaking happen during an enduro then, how far apart to be start each stage?

timmys (AKA Mary Poppins) – I bet your house is spotless if you’ve run white grips for 4 years!

Anyone know any more about this e4 caliper? Like piston sizes etc?

    Cracking bike!

I’d do very little differently if I were building a Slackline. My only comment is, you managed to avoid the black cranks pitfall and yet walked straight into white grips! Cheaply rectified and since you seem to have an eye for detail I’m sure they’ll be swapped for black within a couple of weeks!

    Good job sir.

Good to see this thread mate, it’s made me think I want a piece of that! Once I have a bike to ride I’m definitely going to pay Stile Cop some attention. Nice work.

Mmm, good job. 27.5lb is my guess.

Loop 1 is a good deal better in my view, really great fun in fact. My opinion may be skewed because when I went it was the coldest and wettest days riding I’ve had in a long time. We ended up pretty much riding down a river on loop 2. I bought lizard skins socks the very next day.

Just checked Strava and we did both loops in 2hrs 32 (moving) or just over 3hrs in total.

I decided to take a gamble and go with the non dla Slant. Fingers crossed the mid valve does a decent enough job of warding off brake dive. The stout options with more tunable damping are all a good deal heavier (with the exception of the Pike) and I think that would wear thin after a while for the type of riding I do most of the time.

I think I now have everything ordered for my new build :?: Touch wood.

Thanks for that tricky disco, something to think about. Does your bike feel quite front heavy now? I’d be interested to hear how you get on once you’ve given them a good thrashing!

Mosey – I asked Mike about this today as I’m really hoping I get mine next week otherwise I’ll be off on my biking holiday with no bike!

They’ve not cleared customs yet so until they do it’s not very certain.

Yes that’s true but it’s not going to be an uplift bike for the most part so weight is definitely still a consideration!

    winch

That’s it. I don’t want to end up building a complete tank, or coming from a Soul it’ll not feel nimble enough when it’s not pointed straight down a hill.

Ooh, I have some V4’s sitting here, have about a week to return them if I want to… :S

Edit: Not sure I’ll bother though, the reservoir looks a bit cumbersome and seems to be getting in the way of the reverb cable routing in the top pick. Grrr.

I think it just means it’ll ride pretty good anywhere between 120 and 160, the geometry quoted is for a 140mm fork (sagged). I think I’d try around 140 as a starting point. I think Mikes fork of choice for the Alpine was the original pike.

That’s the nice thing about the Slant, I can try them at various lengths and get a feel for what I like best.

I think I might be leaning towards the slants. They save over 3/4 lb over a DPA Lyrik and I’ve read good things in a number of places about them riding high in their travel with limited brake dive. Maybe I can do without LSC adjustment and save myself a fair old wedge of cash….

I’m still in 2 minds as to whether I want travel adjust. Most the above forks in travel adjust format are 160-130mm. I’m not sure I’d really need 160 most of the time and might be better off just getting some internally adjustable forks and running them at 130/140 in the UK and 150/160 in Europe or on lairy uplift days.

on a hardtail the wallowyness of other forks becomes more noticable for out of the saddle efforts/weighting the front (imho etc.)

I think I agree with you, which is what is giving me concerns about going for the Slants without any compression adjustment.

EDIT: Not sure I want to open the Bos can of worms, especially on 2nd hand forks and couldn’t justify them new.
