Who knows, one of those kids may be inspired by his antics and eventually become the next Danny MacAskill.

Also, I am totally ‘that guy’ and I don’t want to have to come to terms with being a tosser.

    Since you asked Centurian…

By way of an update – The post continues to work perfectly. :) I have a mate who’s been on the waiting list for a 170 for what seems like forever with no response. I don’t know what’s happening with them, I just hope there isn’t a problem with spares availability in the future! But for now I feel lucky to be enjoying 200mm of travel!

In defence of the dollywagon descent, me and a mate did it a couple of weeks back (on hardtails) and absolutely loved it!* Perhaps we are just suckers for punishment :)

*It was bone dry and beautiful weather, I would not want to do it in the wet!

This vid (not mine) is great and gives a quick synopsis of a route starting and ending at Thirlmere and coming down Birkside.

I sent my completely worn out solid hope rotor back to hope after running just two sets of superstar pads on it. I sent the second set of pads with it.

Hope said they tested the superstar pads and found them to be far too hard and that this was the cause of the premature wear.

Haven’t got around to raising it with superstar yet.

Just got there myself bigjim. Thanks! Why don’t I think before I open my mouth?!

Electrical tape on the rim seems to have made all the difference. Up to 85 psi and the tyre is still on. Will leave it over night before riding it now. Thanks all!

Old and new tyres are both 27 1,1/4. Can I measure the rim diameter to be sure they are correct for the tyres?

Yup, 4 positions. Top, bottom, top minus 40mm which is really useful for climbing more technical terrain, and half way which is good for undulating terrain when you just want to give your legs a little rest from standing and mashing once in a while. Luckily for me I can run it completely inserted in the seat tube and its a good height for pedalling at full extension, meaning when it’s fully dropped its right out of the way for hitting jumps and tight corners. Love it!

I think indefinite positioning would annoy me, this way I always know where the post is.

I’m 6’2″, riding an 18″ dialled alpine with wide bars. I can ride it all day, no problems.

Having said that if I were buying or building again from scratch I’d go 27.5. More choice of large frames that aren’t gates in the bigger wheel sizes.

Which wheel size are you after op?

In even finer STW tradition could I suggest the bike I’ve just replaced and haven’t yet got round to putting in the classifieds?

Yep, I’d see how much JPR wants for his MK3 Alpine. Mine is ace.

No paint issues with mine thankfully Burchy. I have heli-taped the main tubes. Is it bear metal underneath when the orange comes off?

Did a lap of Cannock with it yesterday and nothing to report really, it just worked as expected. The positions are where I want them and it made the lap so much more enjoyable (I am new to having a dropper). Very happy.

Yes, but a Rev has more clearance than a reba does it not?

Does a hans dampf fit in a Reba and leave enough mud clearance? I don’t know but it might be worth checking.

Gotama – I signed up to the waiting list on their .com website (without changing it from german to english as this just sends you to their useless .net website). I just used google translate. After about a year (!) I got an email saying that I could order one as long as I did it in the next 5 days! A link to an order page on the website was included. I then had to pay by international bank transfer which from my bank cost an extra £10. The process was a pain but hopefully it’ll be worth it. This is the first to get sent to the UK so hopefully they will streamline the ordering and get paypal or something sensible set up soon.

Apparently if you sign up to the list now you should get a post in 3/4 months.

I for one thought the rope thing was hilarious :D Lets hope they got the dropper right though!

Well, it’s fitted. Not much to it really. The fitting video is pretty good. Heres a few pics and a little vid of it operating. Iphone production quality I’m afraid!

After having a little play with it just up and down the street, I am very happy! I think the whole thing has been very well thought out. I can see how each of the positions is going to have their use. Can’t wait to give it a proper test :) Only minor criticism so far is that with the lever set at a comfortable angle for me, the cable is pointing up at a bit of an angle. This I can live with!

wilko – No layback to my eye.

I’ll certainly give some feedback once I’ve got it fitted and given it a ride. Initial impressions are that it is a very well made bit of kit. Very nice smooth action and no apparent play.

Instructions are in German only so fitting might take longer than expected…

ABS and TC take the fun out of driving and I’m sure they’d do the same for a bicycle!

Hmm, I’d don’t like the way they look. Crowns on tapered forks are beefier, crowns on 1/8th forks look out of proportion in a tapered headtube.

    enigmas –

Chundering out of the gondala window wasn’t a great start to the day.

I’ve done the same in deux alpes. Quite awkward at peak time when you’re crammed in like sardines and then have to endure the remainder of the ride trying to avoid eye contact.

My 11″ air is great, I use it as my only computer and you get used to the size. But having only 64gb is annoying. You could easily get by with 128 but if I were buying now I’d pay the extra for the 256.

A set of superstar pads completely killed my V4 brake disk in the alps this year. One set! I think I must have glazed them when running them in but even so it doesn’t seem right. YMMV! (organics by the way!)

Ahh that’s a pitty Loco, I thought from you’re email that you couldn’t get hold of any of the bits anymore so I hunted them down yesterday elsewhere. Managed to get everything new but the firm spring was an ebay job. Think I did well to get one looking at the number of wanted ads on pinkbike!

Got back from the lakes on Friday having ridden Helvellyn, the Ulswater bridleway and gone up Highstreet then around to Boredale house and down through Martindale. Squeezed in a cheeky trip to Llandegla on Yesterday for good measure :) Helvellyn….

Do you all run maximum travel all of the time?

I’m now running dpa Lyriks on my Alpine which stay at 130mm for most riding as the bike feels more flickable. I do crank out to 160mm for very steep and/or technical rocky descents.

Just as everyone was starting to go all ‘Murdered out’ I decided to build an antidote. One year on and I still love my Dialled Alpine. Even more so now that it finally has a reliable fork!

I have them for the same reasonings as you and am very pleased. Still looking pretty good after nearly a year now. They certainly resist water better than most trainers but I wouldn’t describe them as waterproof, they are lace ups after all. Very happy.

Deffo 203, Hope saw rotors (v4 brakes). Must be as my previous fork only took 203mm. Thanks deadkenny, that’s what I thought. Just wanted to check that they don’t take a 180 as standard or something.

Well, I’ve gone with the Lyrik rc2l dpa from bike24. I’m going to ride it as an air fork and see how I get on but may ultimately go coil u-turn and do the floodgate mod. Plenty of pike love I this thread but enough Lyrik support has convinced me to go with my instincts!

@Rik – Is it white with a tapered steerer? I’m kinda picky like that!

Everyone else, keep those opinions coming, as yet I am still undecided…

ESI (extra chunky) grips made far more difference for me than any of the carbon bars I’ve tried. Expensive for grips but I’ll never go back to lockons now and really can’t recommend them highly enough.
