This is a common problem on the XT brakes, I have stated before these are a pain in the ass to bleed. Every other brake system I have had have always been a doddle to bleed.

I had the same issue for the first few times, I would bleed from the caliper end till no more bubbles were seen. Everything would be ok then all of a sudden the lever would return to the bar and a few sudden pumps would harden it up again.

I found if you leave the res cap on and the lever pulled back (isolating the caliper) attach a syringe full of mineral oil to the caliper and crack the bleed nut, then create a vaccum by pulling on the syringe you should be able to remove the trapped air in the caliper.

It always seems to be the left brake(rear) which sticks. It also seems to fade and pump up. I realise this indicates air but they are a nightmare to bleed!

I know others with the same problem on the rear.

Sounds like the best route to me. Although avoid Trowell road(near the festival pub) as that can be a bit of a pig with traffic! I'd cut through Stapleford then up the A52.

I think Rutland Cycles is an excellent bike shop, others should take note. Staff are always helpful without being patronising. Stock levels in the shop are high and include a wide range. Luke (V10) is one othe best and knowledgable guys I have dealt with.

With regards to the online service, Rutland had stated for months that they are aware of the issues and are trying to resolve them. At least they acknowledge this fact!

If you are asking for advice on here you really don’t know what you are doing!

Just pay someone 100quid to fix it. A couple of hours at the most and a spark can sort that out.
