Quill adaptor and aheadstem here. Works fine. I think Planet X may have some new old stock quill stems left if you want one.

Don’t spend it for at least 3 days. Cheques appear in my HSBC account in the same day as i pay them in, but don’t spend them for at least 3 days unless you have balance available to cover the value of the cheque, otherwise you may get charged.
I did get charged for this the other week but managed to get the money back; due to me suggesting to them that it wasn’t good practice for showing the money in my account (not in pending) and not allowing me to spend the money.

It’s really easy to do. Work out which side of the tongue is on the boards first. Its probably only attached with panel pins through the tongue so you can normally peel it off with a large flat screwdriver or small bar.

Make sure you measure the width of the boards you are going to replace. The only things you need are a punch, some good length panel pins (1 inch will be fine), small hammer and a tenon saw (or chop saw). You may need a panel saw if your going to trim a board vertically (to width).

Have a look at this image tongue and groove

I prefer the ferry – it feels like the start to the holiday. It’s good to get out the car and walk about and get some air- I’m not mad on driving either.

I can see the advantages for the tunnel though re; convenience and seasickness.

Sounds fine -i’m running Paris marathon next sunday. I’ve been running 2 or 3 times a week (with an occasional bike ride thrown in and a yoga class per week). The yoga has been really good so far. My longest run to date is 19 miles.

I’m not too bothered about a time, just finishing. I had 4 weeks off with a bad back and man flu in December/ early Jan and this was quite frustrating. Good look.

I’m doing the marathon with my partner in memory of our friend who died due to Carbon monoxide poisoning – Katie[/url] – if anyone reads this please make sure you have a CO monitor and get your bolier tested every year.

You’ll be fine. Finishing it shouldn’t be a problem if your relatively fit and run once or twice a week already.

I wouldn’t obsess to much about your time if its your first half though, do this one just to get experience at the distance.

We walked from Great Langdale to Wasdale head at the weekend. We stayed in the camping pods at the NT trust campsites to save carrying tents. The Wassdale pod had a small heater, whereas the Langdale ones didn’t. We just ate at the pub/hotel each night (Old Dungeon Ghyll & Wasdale head inn).

On sat we walked up past stickle tarn, angle tarn, sprinkling tarn then to sty head and then down into wasdale. On the sunday we reversed the route up to the shelter and then went over Esk Pike and Bow Fell and then down the band. There are obviously lots of other routes you could do in either direction – i thought the NT campsites/pods were quite good.

    Hope this helps, Will

My commute to Dronfield is much nicer on something with wider tyres, than on my road bike with 23mm. I’d personally go for a nice hybrid for a short ish commute.

On a short jaunt out I prefer to carry the following:

9 malted milk biscuit (one for each of the 7 dwarfs & 2 for zac toogood)
Grandpapas old poo spade (from the great war)
    My trust Bowie knife
A snifter of Mrs Hoggins finest Sloe gin (kept in my battered hip flask)
    2 woods valve tubes
My sterling silver Rapha dogtags & a bar of the finest ‘Ventoux inspired’ hand soap
A short cage & long cage reach mech & 114 link chain
16 sram split links & 6 pairs of latex gloves
    An avalanche probe
    2 spare walkie talkies
    My trusty barbour jacket
Up lift pass for the day (essential for days at Cannock)
    My mobi pressure washer
2 spare tyres (for inclement conditions)
A hard bound Park Tool maintenance book
16 Snap on Spanners, a chain whip, cassette tool and my homemade headset press
    160 & 183mm disc rotors
Willo the Jack Russell, his food and his Alessi dog bowl (he won’t eat out of anything else).
    My Brooks leather trouser clips
And finally a small pack up (2 cup a soups, a bag of monster munch, my gentlemens relish and 3 triangle marmite sandwiches)

When riding for more than 3 hours i also like to carry…………..

Another yay here for the duster (mine's steel – i bought it 2nd hand too). Had mine just over a year and its been the best all round mtb i've owned. Pretty tough, climbs well and likes singletrack.

These are the main things i found that helped:
Don't set off fast – ride steady and well within yourself, its a very long day. Eat lots (and drink plenty too) – put something nice/ unusual in your drop bag – marmite cashews were good for me last year (my friend john went for nobbys nuts).

Training – as long as you can do about 50/55 miles in 6 (ish) hours off road you'll be fine. This was my longest training ride. I managed to finish ok and i normally ride between 2 and 3 times per week.

Try and ride with someone else – this really helps as you can chat on the way round and help get each other through tough bits.
Have a good one (i'm doing the helvellyn tri this year instead).

First thing is you've bought a field gate fitting kit – is it for quite a big gate? If not you can use a much smaller kit.

The long strap hinge is for the top of the gate(pulling force) and the short hinge is for the bottom of the gate (pushing force). The hook to bolt (with thread on) is for the top of your gate post and the hook to drive is for the bottom of the post. Most people fit the top hook upside down (above the hinge)to stop people nicking the gate.

You'll need to drill a hole through your post for the top hook the same size as the thread or slightly smaller. Then drive it through (hit it with a hammer) and tighten the nut up. The the nut/ washer stops the hinge being pulled out.

For the hook to drive i would drill a small pilot hole to stop the wood spitting. Then belt it in with a nice lump hammer.

Have a look at these links: scroll down http://handbooks.btcv.org.uk/handbooks/content/section/3320

I've got a 4t and really like it. I've used to ride the 3 peaks, local cross league, a triathlon and road race or 2, a couple of sportives and a few commutes. I went for the 4t as it has the bottle bosses and rack bosses so i might use it for some touring at some point.

As long as you service cup and cone hubs fairly regularly they will last ages (i usually service my road hubs every year). I have a pair of road/ cx wheels that are at least 12 years old and are still running nicely (shimano 600 hubs on mavic open pro cd).
