Had similar on our polo, waited for a nice day got on YouTube and DIY’d it for a LOT less than the garage wanted. First side took an hour, second much much quicker. Decent discs and pads on offer at EuroCarParts. Has passed MOTs since. It is a cost that’s in your future (unless your selling the car) so DIY or not, might as well get on with it at your convenience rather than at the behest of the garage.

IME it’s fine, until it suddenly isn’t… measure three times, move slowly and carefully. Start early in the day. Pick a warm month. Know where your local screwfix is. And whatever you do, don’t panic on the outside.

Max motoring chill now on your telly.

Sorry late to the party and didn’t read back far enough. Worth a bump all the same. Peace.

@the-muffin-man – oh, with cameras on I’ve met 3 dogs, 2 chinchillas and a cat today. 2 dogs asleep here too. Good day of zooming so far.

Every job, and every meeting is different. But that much of how we all communicate is non-verbal is fact. Working with remote teams during a stressful couple of years has compounded this in my experience. I find the emotion that this is eliciting here interesting too. This hasn’t even been raised by any of our teams, and if the camera’s off it’s normally prefixed with, ‘oh, I’m sorry no camera because…’*

*”I really don’t feel like it” is fine.

Not at all unreasonable but there are probably more sensitive ways of doing it. ‘Expect’ next least sensitive, up to ‘how can I tell how you’re doing if I can’t see you?’. There’s probably someone here who can come up with a better turn of phrase. Unless of course you’re that guy who is organising 0730 calls.

EDIT: There are legit reasons for having camera off too, but these tend to be infrequent and exceptional IME.

@fenboy sorry just back here… I went XL and had to downsize to a L otherwise I’d be banging on your door.

Ordered a new watch (fenix) from blacks thanks to the PSA above… they’re now being very apologetic about delays. I wonder if they actually had stock or whether they too are relying on garmin… different watch, similar levels of er… excitement.

for people to volunteer to assist, as long as the volunteers know that’s the case. Normal health providers still have to pay the rent, staff bills etc, and providing an accelerated vaccination scheme for “free” would further impact their ability to provide all the other services that we need from them.

Thanks – haven’t the capacity to think that one through at the moment. I will sleep better!

@kelvin I think it may have been you who commented earlier about pharmacists profiting handsomely from the efforts and goodwill of volunteer vaccinators… good god, hadn’t seen it that way. Is there another angle? I’m struggling to see it.

We let them meet outside (driveway – neutral-ish territory), then let them get on with it, supervised. Puppy in crate when unattended and at night, older dog not allowed in puppy’s crate/always option of crate to escape to. Puppy not allowed in older dog’s food/bed space. Fed older dog first, separate bowls of course. Made a fuss of both. Cocker spaniel puppy and 12 yr old Springer cross. They’re mates now.

Didn’t realise cement board was that cheap – I’d be going down that route given relatively small area and cost of decent paint. Using saws and hammers is way more fun than painting too.

@poolman glad it’s still going – think that was mine as I wanted to downsize to an L, which got stolen… now trying to find another one! Any leads, let me know!

I had the same noise recently over the lowest four or five gears (bigger cogs on cassette) after replacing mech, chain and cassette, but with older chainring. It Disappeared after a couple of rides.

Missed opportunity to incorporate shockwiz too IMO.

I saw an instagram post the other day showing an SRAM patent for exactly this… wish I could remember the poster… sorry!

Recent 10% +2 speed awareness course attendee here (well, it was face to face, so probably 2019)… 83 in a 70 so not sure how I got the course… anyway the big take away from me, any speed restriction with a red circle around it (on a gantry/screen or otherwise) is a legal requirement and can be enforced. Any orange ones are advisory, but you’ll get the book thrown out you for driving dangerously/carelessly if you are involved in an accident where you were found above the advised/cautionary limit.

If weight is a concern don’t forget you’re comparing weight of Norco with weight of Status, not weight of the carbon Norco. I think Status might be heavier (internet says 15.6kg vs 15kg for Norco in NX spec) Have your ridden a mullet bike before (Status)?

I think it’s all private (ABP) and operated under lease/license to a range of tenants. Thanks all for your input – I’ll see how far I get with one call to Red Funnel, but anticipate paying, moving on and arranging other pick up/drop off arrangements in the future.

Update… no dice with Hunt ‘we can’t guarantee your free hub will fit your hub’…. I’ll leave them to sit on my wheel for another XX months. And cycle clinic sold out, but I know what I’m sniffing out now. Thanks!

AAAH! Good news. Re. 2… the wheel getting sorted is with Hunt so they could just send my freehub back! Splendid. Thanks so much.

    Snap!

30 -35 psi with rimpact insert fitted – boo
19 month old rim, hunt happy to sort under warranty no quibble – yay
Found another crack packing the wheel up for collection – boo
Can’t be sorted until mid-late oct earliest as no TW 27.5 rims in stock – boo
Hunt offered loan wheel in the interim (seconds from their return scheme) – yay
But had already picked up a second hand wheel to keep me rolling in the interim – boo

Feeling a bit conflicted here – fab service, perhaps could have been quicker to let me know about delay, and should this have failed so spectacularly? Seems to be a common fault too. I’ve been a big advocate of Hunt to date, prob would recommend again, but with a ‘careful on the rocks’ caveat.

Been to two Decathlons today trying to find a floatation vest for MrsRNP but the cheaper ones are all sold out (its probably a fad so dont want to spend the money on the CO2 inflating one)

@rustynissanprairy and anyone else who is looking at floatation devices without some info, Don’t get the CO2 inflating ones unless you are very unlikely to fall in.They give life jacket rather than buoyancy aid support. The former rolls you onto your back and is much harder to swim with. They are designed to make things easier if you are going to be rescued or are injured. Stick with a foam and bodyweight appropriate buoyancy aid if you are planning on or likely to get wet. Also pretty sure you’re weekend’s over if you use a CO2 based life jacket – you have to get them repacked and recharged professionally. Can’t say for sure on this last point – never had one go off. Best bet is to do some reading around “lifejacket vs buoyancy aid”. HTH.

Great news and hopefully the covenant is straightforward but unless you are very senior they are usually not enforceable as you should not stop a person earning a living in the industry they have experience in.

    Exactly that.

Love them – wanted one for a runabout and rural dales winter duties. Tried to buy one, but really struggled to find one within a reasonable distance for viewing and under £8k that wasn’t modded heavily or rusting away. I would definitely NOT buy without a very close look around and a drive. Why £8k? Didn’t want to spend more than that for something that might rust away over the 5 years or so we’d hope to own it. Had a really useful Jimny induction with ‘Mr Jimny’ who runs out of a garage near Bradford. Seems to have steady flow of stock on eBay. Was told the key place to look for rot seemed to be in the spare wheel well, along with all the usual MOT failure rust hotspots. In terms of spec/comfort – newer ones much better (but that’s still relative!). I drove a cheap one, a medium one and a ‘HOW MUCH?!’ one, and there was a marked difference between them despite being similar at face value. So get driving and keep us posted – we will Jimny vicariously.

ETA… ARGH you’ve got me looking again now. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2012-Suzuki-Jimny-1-3-VVT-SZ3-3dr-ESTATE-Petrol-Manual/114783665560

Went to buy a very nearly new fiat, complete with covid tax on price tag in the window. Stood next to it for a bit. Got cold. Went inside to talk to a human about it. Well and truly avoided (not just ignored!). Went home. Looking at you Arnold Clark Leeds.

Didn’t die either. Did get a bit harder when the wind picked up at the furthest point from the launching point. Didn’t fall in. Much easier on a lake than the sea. No ‘buzz’ like I’m used to with other sports, but a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours on a windless day. Didn’t feel like exercise, but heart rate above 100 for the whole outing and got to parts of the reservoir I’d not seen before. Looking forward to finding a new stretch of water to explore. Also found my long lost water bottle from a hairy moment sailing a while back. Result.

As for the board itself, Feels similar to the much more expensive (to buy) ones that we’ve rented a few times. Kids looking forward to the freedom this will give them on the water in warmer weather.

22 March 2017 had some work to do in Portcullis House. Meeting was dragging on so made my excuses before lunch and thought I’d get something (with a beer) at Kings Cross. Missed the terror attack by about 30 mins. In June the same year my Sister found herself on London Bridge, cabbie heading South was quite insistent she jumped in, and she was too polite to object/didn’t want to make a fuss in front of her toddler – that gent probably saved their lives.

Just unpacked ours, blown it up, and typed a long post to find @winston has said it all. The kids will enjoy the seat. I think the pump is metal barrelled. Went up quicker than the Red one we borrowed in the summer. Bag is good, would be better with wheels but not complaining – the whole package (apart from the seat) seems really robust and comparable to Red from the outside at least. Fin protectors, decent repair kit and dry bag are all nice touches too for the price.
