    But charities are *given* money,

Technically that’s a bit true, we do get Gift Aid… *runs away and hides*

“So how would you propose to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of a charity?”

Surely that depends on the charity. It could be softer measures around patient and carer experience and reach. Others might be political change effected, or number of people getting out of debt etc. broad brush doesn’t work.

The ‘what percentage of your income do you spend on your programme’ is a false discourse, and too ambiguous a question. It should be ‘how effective are you in meeting your charitable aims’.

The avid one was a smidge too big ime and resulted in not quite enough fluid in the system, so we just pulled it out a little until the pistons were able to close a little more

Listen to him – I have low expectations when it comes to brakes 🙂

And here’s mine, love it for xc stuff but the ‘engine’ needs some work. 32:18 seems about right for now.

Which issue(s) are you picking up with the nursery? What does ‘forcing’ the issue look like? And what would be a good result for you? Just some questions to help you get your thoughts together

Anyone care to shed some light on exact concentrations used, and time submersed to remove ano from middleburn cranks? Be good to see photos too so I know exactly what I’m letting myself in for!

I soiled my pants and nearly crashed my car when a tornado flew down the M6 a couple of years ago (up near Shap). Fast, and very low. I’d love to see that again soon 🙂

There’s good and bad to this. I have some insight into what’s happening. The public nearly didn’t get told. Oops. This has resulted in a) a hastily cobbled together leaflet landing on our door mats, and b) panic in charity and research world as they realise people can opt out and therefore compromise projects – wellcome trust campaign

OP’s link is a worthwhile read.

Personally I believe that data can inform care and planning of services, and that it will be useful for CCGs, but there is a darker side re. insurance and so forth. And what happens when our children are old enough to opt out? Will they get a leaflet too?

    Small charity misjudges things? [/url]

Or small charity uses tiny media spend to reach new people and grow profile in relevant audience?

    We may never know…

But they were paid to do a short term ‘awareness campaign’ by either the Scottish govt or Cycling Scotland. The ads were never going to be repeated so why would the ad agency worry about fighting the ruling? Time spent doing this is wasted (for them, from a business point of view).

This is all conjecture, but in the interests of keeping the conversation going… because a) they shouldn’t be creating ads at the clients expense that then get pulled b) they may have a PR arm that can bill for the hours promoting the ruling, indeed the PR may generate more, longer lasting noise than the ‘short term’ TV ads, and c) the ASA could have offered this view at an earlier stage if accurate storyboards etc had been shared.

Don’t hold me to ‘c)’ though – it’s been a while since I’ve been involved in this sort of thing and don’t know how accessible this sort of input is these days.

But let’s not get distracted from the fact that, yes, it’s a ridiculous ruling.

If I recall correctly, the volume of complaints relating to specific ads that the ASA receive is lower than one might expect, and from my experience they are a very communicative organisation (albeit with an air of finality accompanying their rulings). However, the agency supplying the ad for approval will have been given opportunity to respond and give their side of the story – seems odd that this hasn’t happened, particularly given the irrefutable evidence against the decision. Perhaps they’re holding out for the PR shitstorm?

In short, I’d imagine even a few emails will set off a warning light somewhere.

So you knew you needed two full time incomes to secure the house but you still decided to breed and bitch about childcare costs?

To quote littlemisspanda (i think) from ages ago…make lifestyle choices you can afford

I’m lost here… please don’t jump to conclusions. I am not complaining. I am very happy actually. Nice work life balance, with wife working part time, me full time, kids in nursery a bit. Sacrificed a few things (waitrose, bikes, cars, foreign holidays) but we’ve kids we love, who are getting huge benefit from socialising at nursery part time, we get to see them too, and have a manageable mortgage on a lovely family home. HOWEVER, with bills for two kids in nursery part time at £1000/month I do wonder if things are a bit silly sometimes. Still, we are very fortunate to be in a position to make compromises, when some people don’t have any corners left to cut.

Early FL1s were problematic, but later FL1s and FL2s better by all accounts. Obviously speaking from ownership of 1 vehicle, so small sample size! But bushes, top mounts – shouldn’t be any rattles or knocks from steering or suspension, check brake disc wear, and tyres. Wear and tear stuff yes, but expensive and annoying to fix soon after purchase. Injectors – diesels shouldn’t be smokey, particularly on start up, and should run smoothly. Something that niggled me was head room, and couldn’t get seat low enough to see very top of instruments. Enjoyed running the car though and suited lifestyle well. HTH.

I think there must be something in the water at the moment. Currently on the receiving end of some equally astonishing and incredulous accusations off the back of a RTI that I was involved in, it is the common sense and rationality of the Police Force that seems to be keeping things heading in the right direction. Long may this prevail…

Cheers everyone. We have avoided CHO, car’s at VW and as things are straightforward we’re claiming on our own policy. Hire car arrived, but going back as it stinks of stale smoke. We have found the whole experience to date quite stressful – there is a lot of pressure on you to make uninformed decisions in the first 48 hrs, on top of dealing with the ‘impact’ (arf) of the accident itself. Now older and wiser!

8-months pregnant what’s the rush to get back to work?

I have gently pushed that argument, but apparently “someone has to earn a decent wage to support my lifestyle…”

Sadly only a some of OH’s work is salaried, remainder on self employed basis.

Thank you that sounds ‘right’ to me… I’ve been led to believe that even talking to 3rd Party’s insurer could jeopardise our case somehow, but this is based vague statements from the CHO, who obviously have a vested interest.
