Keep meaning to try this but can never send myself to bed early enough.

+1. Must try harder!

1 in 13 years, about 7 years ago. SP50 on the M4. Speed limit changed from 70 to 50 and I backed off, slowing down and then see a van on a bridge going over the motorway. Got a nice letter from the Gwent Constabulary saying I’d been going 57 in a 50. 3 points, £60 fine.

I too hate it when someone is pootling along at 40 in a national then stay at 40 when the limit changes to 30. Makes my blood boil. So much more dangerous to be speeding in a 30 than driving near or just over the speed limit in a national.

Mark your own territory (not with your own poo though – wee will do jut fine).

This is the only thing that worked in our last garden. I used to wee into an empty milk bottle and slosh it about the entry points and around the flower beds. I had to do it every two or three days but it was far more effective than any other off the shelf/internet method, and it’s free!

The traffic coppers looning it over the bridge and up the High Street was great.

Indeed. They were having fun after the bridge in Shalford too. They were all waves and sirens for the fans around the bends before the bridge and then over the bridge, visors down, PIN IT!!!

Did you notice how much fun the motorbike riders were having, the policemen in particular? Good on them!

Watched the first time through Shalford, from the bridge, then walked into Guildford and watched from opposite White Lion Walk. Great view of the riders caining into over the bridge and up the hill. Good stuff. Well done to all involved.

Can’t believe the organisers didn’t have that big rut filled in, on the outside of the corner that Cav came down on. Looked like his wheel went into it and his shoulder smashed into the edge of the road surface. Ouch!

My wife’s been using MFP for nearly 4 years and lost 65 lbs. She says the forums are full of to$$ers and to be careful about the food values that other people have entered, they’re not always right. Other than that it’s been really useful. Measuring everything we cook has had the knock-on effect that I’ve lost a bit of weight too, about a stone, without really trying. We call it “fitnesstrack” in our house, after another forum!

Yesterday. Wheelied off a rock in the CyB car park, looped out and landed on my lower back/camelbak. Properly winded and nicely bruised but no real damage. Mostly embarrassed.

I’d always thought I was fairly average but I did the MBR trail at CyB yesterday in the 22nd fastest time, out of 113, according to (the dreaded) Strava!

Today I fell off in the car park, before my ride! Then proceeded to ride the MinorTaur Loop 3, back still in spasm from my car park spill, and I’m 4th fastest, out of 23. Not too shabby!

My wife and I stayed in Florence for a few days as part of our honeymoon. So much to see and do in the city itself.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Cavour, just around the corner from the Duomo. Great hotel, with a fantastic restaurant. There are loads of other cheaper restaurants (Tratorias) in the back streets, don’t be afraid to go exploring. There was one in particular, down Via Dante, that was excellent. Can’t remember the name though.

+1 for the Boboli Gardens.
-1 for the Uffizi (IMHO).

We really wanted to go to the science museum when we were there but we ran out of time. Now called Museo Galileo, I think.

Have fun!

You spent £13k on insurance! I’d hate to know how much you’d borrowed.

No, I got £13k back. A lot of that is interest and extra compensation, as I mentioned in my post.

Do it. I did, after a colleague got a substantial amount back. It’s very easy to do yourself. Also, if your bank can see that you wouldn’t have had to take out subsequent loans if you hadn’t been paying the PPI on your previous loans they will give you extra compensation, along with the standard (8% per year) interest on the PPI amount. I got nearly £13000 back and my colleague got £25000.

When different grades of aluminium and parts finished in different ways are anodised they can look different. This is especially so on welds, which almost always come out looking darker.

Normally the welded frame is bead blasted before it’s anodised. This evens-out the finish, giving the tubes and welds a more consistent surface texture. The more recent trend for “raw” looking frames means the tubes are left brushed or unfinished so they are “more shiny” than the welds, which are fairly matte in texture. This means the tubes reflect more light than the welds so the welds appear even darker. This can be seen clearly on the Scalp in bwraaps post.

I think it looks great. Get it built and enjoy it! 😉

It’s only used by ramblers, dog walkers and horse riders

I ride across it several times a month too and know quite a few other people ride there. I saw loads of tyre trails in the sand there yesterday.

Chapel Common is National Trust, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and part of the South Downs National Park so definitely illegal.

There are a couple of paths that really need the gorse trimming back on if you really want to do something useful! 😉

I’ve had no issues with them when I’ve used them. Great prices and prompt delivery. Had 2 sets of bargainous forks and several pairs of shoes from them in the past.

For those of us whose local trails aren’t the ‘wet fire road’ variety of mud, then perhaps look at the Geax Datura that On-One are doing very cheaply at the moment!

Just received a pair of those, within 24 hours, total bargain. Bear in mind they’re no svelte XC tyre though, at about 900g each, but they’re really well made. Looking forward to trying them out in the mud!

This is a great campsite, right on the doorstep of Coed-y-Brenin: Cae Gywn Farm.

Makes a good base for CyB, Penmachno, Antur Stiniog, Cadair Idris etc, then you can go south via Machynlleth, Nant yr Arian, Brechfa, Afan and so on… You’ll have to be selective, there is too much to ride in 3-4 days.

I did a similar trip a few years ago, but the other way around. We did a whole day at Afan, Nant-yr-Arian the next, on the way to Cae Gywn Farm, whole day at CyB the next day, Penmachno then home on the fourth day.

I had a ’94 1.8 AWD that had done 197,000 miles before it was run into and written off about 4 or 5 years ago. Totally great car. Had it for a couple of years, did 40,000+ miles in it, biggest expense was a new clutch but fitted it with a friend as it was so easy to work on. Have a good look for rust around the wheel arches. I’d buy another if I could find a nice one and could afford the petrol!

After I stripped the paint it was bead blasted and then anodised for £80.
Having a frame stripped professionally shouldn’t cost much, maybe £20 or so.

The bead blast and anodising was done by a nice chap called Steve Barry, who’s in Sandhurst/Bracknell. I can give you his current email if you like? He doesn’t do any paint stripping so you’d have to sort that out separately.

Strip it and have it anodised? That’s what I did with an oldish Marin and I’m very happy with it. I stripped it myself, with Nitromors, which took ages and ages. I would not recommend stripping it yourself.

I agree, reckon that’s an 2004 or 2005. It’s identical to my 2003 Blur, except mine had a Fox Float AVA shock and removable cantilever bosses. If your friend decides to go for it make sure they check the bearings (including removing the shock from the front mount and cycling the rear triangle through it’s travel and feeling/listening for rough spots) before handing over any cash. Mine went through bearings at a rate of knots, at around £100 a set including fitting, hence it got sold!

I got the darker version which is a different “coating” and it looks and feel really nice.

Not a coating, perhaps the coolest finishing process ever? #GEEK!

Certainly on my list of new phones, not just because of the finish!

I once had a limited edition Scott Endorphin, number 112 of 200. It was just an Endorphin in a really gopping “colour scheme”. Miss it though, one of my favourite bikes. No pics of it built up but here’s the frame:

Not as rare as my current bike though, this one is unique, as far as I know.
