I just bought 7 of these, in the warm white colour, 4 for our bathroom and 3 for our kitchen. So far very impressed by brightness, spread and colour of the light they emit. Feels much more like daylight than it did with the old halogens.

Not the most expensive nor the blingiest but it was a 30th birthday present from my wife. I’ve worn it nearly every day for the last 6 years:

Only had to replace the battery earlier this year but now the strap is in need of replacement. Just got a quote from an independent Seiko/Briel spares supplier and they want £50, just for the leather parts! Eek!

If you can’t save the thread as described above then you may be able to helicoil it?

I generally do a garlic roux, with white whine, mustard and cheddar, gruyerre, stilton and mozzarrella. Any recommendations to improve on that?

That sir, is one of the most pretentious lists of macaroni cheese ingredients I’ve ever seen! One or two cheeses, certainly not Stilton, and the single most brilliant thing that can be added: Slices of (packet, not jar) frankfurter. Thinly sliced tomato on top of extra cheese and a few twists of black pepper then grill to golden, sizzling perfection.

Not one of the most painful things I’ve ever done but one that made me feel unusually squeamish:

Finger meets scalpel by will jenkins, on Flickr

Doesn’t look very impressive but imagine a 10A scalpel blade going in top left and tip coming out bottom right. I sized it up and it must have been up to the hilt!
I was sweeping bits of wire and insulation off my workbench and swept my hand into my scalpel, which was just lying open on the bench. It was probably in my finger for a split second. Didn’t realise it went all the way through until I saw my blood coming out of both sides of my finger!

Brilliant series, kids and teachers/staff. We just watched the last episode and our eyes were more than a little damp.

It was this guy.

I’ve got a shed full of 26″ tyres. I’m not changing until they’re all worn out! 😀

My friend, Andy. I’ve known him nearly 30 years. In 2004 he broke 9 vertebrae in his back and neck when he fell 20 metres, whilst rock climbing. Some of his doctors thought he wouldn’t be able to walk again, now he’s on the British Paracycling development squad. He whoops my arse on anything flat or uphill and has a lovely wife and baby daughter that he possibly wouldn’t have if he hadn’t had the accident. Funny old game, life.

I lead a team of technicians that prototype and rework all sorts of mechanical and electronic things. I enjoy it, get paid reasonably and get good benefits. High job security too, which is nice.

Is it just the photo or does that back wheel have titanium spokes too? If so where’s the matching front one?!

Needs a bit of Smoke / Dart rubber tho.

A pair of lovely dark red Ritchey Z-Max WCS would be a bit more in keeping with its race pedigree.

Mmmm, Mavic 217 Sunset rims. Had myself some of those as soon as they came out. Wish Mavic did their rims in cool colours like that now, instead of just black. Had some red 517s too, on red Hope hubs. They were nice but not as nice as Sunsets.

I’ve just changed my Santander account to a 123 account and made £9 this month. £5 of that was interest on savings, the rest was on our direct debits. Much better interest than most instant access savings accounts.

You get much more choice and better prices if you order them online and have them delivered to your most convenient fitter. I’ve used Pneus Online and Oponeo without issue. Alternatively order them online and have them fitted wherever you like using someone like eTyres.

More sipes and working edges = more grip = higher rolling resistance = slightly higher fuel consumption. I know I’d rather have the grip when it mattered than save a few quid on fuel.

Winter tyres (and M+S marked all season tyres) are brilliant. They should be a legal requirement, like they are in most of the rest of northern Europe.

I’ve had Quatrac 3s on my Focus for a year and they’ve been excellent so far. Just as good as full-on winter tyres and can’t really tell they’re not summer tyres in the summer.

We’ve had a Dyson DC-03 for 12 years. I clean it when it needs cleaning and I replaced the hose once. Otherwise faultless. Hoping it never dies.

Anyone tried the new Hope ones yet? I really like the look of the overmoulded locking collars.

I remember being able to set my watch by the bouts too. Every 20 minutes, both ends, for a couple of days and nights. My back and stomach muscles ached for weeks, from all the retching and cramps. This thread has brought it all back!

I had one of those Scott Endorphins (with much nicer bits on it). One of the best bikes I’ve had.

Had it a few years ago, never want it again. Mine lasted a couple of days. Totally knocked me out for a few days after that though. Get well soon.

(As a life long eczema sufferer) It’s entirely possible the material is irritating your skin but eczema is an immune response so (if you’ve never had it before) it’s more likely to be dermatitis (inflammation of the dermis). Try wearing a different top for a few weeks and see if it gets better?

I find everything I wear riding has to be as breathable as possible otherwise I get sore patches where I get sweaty and hottest; my neck, back and shoulders.

Keep strong soaps, shampoo and and shower gel away from your sore bits and use aqueous cream or white soft paraffin (from chemist) to moisturise and as a barrier before riding.

Only thing I found that worked when we had a cat poo epidemic in our garden was my own urine. I’d bottle the first couple of wees on a Saturday morning then spread it around the access points into our garden. I had to do this weekly for it to be effective. We moved in the end, not just because of the cats but they and their droppings were a factor.

Have you seen this?

Geax Saguaros are very good. I use them front and rear in the summer. For such a fast tyre they’re remarkably grippy in anything but winter. They’re very good quality and an utter bargain from On One.

Geax AKA or Saguaro also worth a look. I’ve used both front and rear at various times. Great quality tyres, seriously underrated. On-One had some good deals on them lately, including the TNT (tube/no tube) versions.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

My Duster is now built-up and it’s just been on shakedown and new brake bed-in ride. Need to make a few tweaks but happy so far.

I don’t think they’ve got rid of them, they just haven’t replaced the cutters when they’ve become blunt or lost.
