In response to mcboo – you ask the question why should the police be treated any differently than the rest of the public sector – or words to that effect. What other job within the public sector compares to it? The answer, in case you are wondering is ‘none’, there isnt one. On that basis alone, the police have to be treated differently from the rest of the public sector.

I would advise against just not turning up or leaving under a cloud – its surprising how many connections schools have with eachother – don’t be surprised if you obtain yourself an unshakable reputation if you just fail to turn up. I would have a meeting with the head of the department first and explain your position – its not practical to teach a subject you don’t know – the school should not have offered you the position. I’d advise you to get out, but do it in a manner that’s open and honest.

I dont know what you can do to stop this happening………its horrendous. Thieves aren’t stupid, they’ve twigged the fact that we’re basically in possession of high value items that are:

    a) very difficult to store securely
    b) very difficult to trace once stolen

I dont know what you have to do these days. In relation to the police not being interested etc. What do people think they can actually do anyway? Unless the theft is witnessed or some decent forensic evidence is left – the police’s options are non-existent.

If anything at all was possible – what would the STW Massive suggest as the best way to tackle bike theft? Ive given this a lot of thought myself, and really dont see how it can be stopped or even reduced.

I don’t understand how they know 164 police statements were altered or rewritten – statements would have been hand written at the time, so if they were altered, surely the originals would have been destroyed with no record of its existence?

I’m confused, does anyone know where this stat came from and how it is known to be true?

It’s certainly not intended as a moan – just an expression of an opinion. I applaud the work and dedication that has gone into the place and have a great deal if respect for those involved. If I lived closer I’d certainly get involved…..its only my opinion, but I think a changes at some key places and the ride quality would be transformed – for example the two trees on the first Forrest descent that all but take you out or grind u to a halt – no need for them, especially with the rise of the wider bars. Some of the berms could be smoothed out etc. that would make the ride more fluid and enjoyable – I of course understand that such changes wouldn’t suit everyone, but it would suit a majority.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – google “BURN THE FAT FEED THE MUSCLE” by Tom Venuto. Sounds cheesy, but it’s all you’ll ever need. If you search for the PDF you might be able to find the ebook for free

Looks like a convoluted solution to a problem that doesn’t really exist. I’m impressed by the concept, engineering and entrepreneurialism though.

Is there anywhere in the UK that can prepare you for alpine descents? My first time out there and I cannot get my head around the length of the descents – is there any where in the UK that would prepare u for the Alpes?

    Some good replies – thanks.

My other concern is constant worry about it gettin nicked or damaged – at least with something more ‘normal’ id be less arsed – but I’d be gutted to see it go…

The worst part was his neighbour watched it happen – and decided to phone me mate and leave him a voicemail saying 2 lads are breaking into your shed.

Google – ‘BURN THE FAT, FEED THE MUSCLE’ by Tom Venuto. Its an ebook and it’s one of the best books about diet and training I’ve read. If you specifically search for the .pdf extension you might be able to find it free and read through it……..very good reviews and is working wonders for me.

More STW drivel – Don, are you able to differentiate between people striking and people protesting on their days off?

I heard of a downhill racer that is running a rim with two valves in. He has an innertube inside a tubeless tyre and runs the tyre with sealant. It’s a bit heavier but is apparently the best solution to punctures.

I’ve just replaced the 2012 rp23 on my nomad carbon with a ccdb coil. It has been set up by TFTuned and it is night and day. Yes it’s heavier, quite a lot heavier. But you don’t really notice it once your away. The weight penalty is worth it though – I’ve noticed the biggest difference in fast tight corners – stupid amount of grip and when on big square edge hits – would I go back???? No plans to yet

I am of the opinion that if the police were to strike society would struggle to recover from the fallout that I believe would occur. If people can organise themselves quickly and fluidly – as demonstrated in last years riots, and they knew that for the next 24 hours there would be no police response at all, groups/gangs would run a mock. I agree that the police should never be put in a position where they feel it necessarry to strike. I just wonder, if it actually ce down to it, and police publicly announced they were all on strike for 24 hours or whatever – how would society respond?

Deffo not the wind – I rode it twice. First time at about half six, clear. Then again an hour later and there it was. Four 50ish year old fellas stood around the gates – they were the only ones around and were my number one suspects.

But seriousley…….maybe it’s just me, but they’ve put u back together and probably given u a future where bike riding is included. If it were me I’d be eternally grateful and certainly wouldn’t be getting worried over some kit that is easily replaced.

May not help – but if there is a court order it should stipulate when the father has access. If he breaches this then the police should get involved – after all, who else is a position to enforce it and deal with any breaches

100% not – but if he was a special I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d turned his own car into a pseudo police car and was driving round off duty in his uniform

Gamut dual ring chain guide – I run one on my nomad c with 2 x9 set up. Prior to that I ran an E13 SRS+ on my 5 with 1×9 set up. Both good manufacturers but expensive.

TFTuned have a guide on their site on how to measure eye to eye and stroke length. That’s all u really need – then choose a shock that has the same dimensions – but also consider the overall size too – some shocks have huge reservoirs that might foul your frame.

+1 for Chain Ring Bolts, very common cause of creaks.

Just invade anyone else is interested – spoke with stendec and TFTuned. To reduce from an 8.75 x 2.75 to 8.5 x 2.5 only requires some ‘machining’ of the shaft – no additional parts are required. Stendec will service and reduce the shock for 120 then 35 for spring. TFTuned charge 115 for the same service plus 20 for a spring.

you could put double sided tape on the bar first, douse it with white spirit and inside the grip – slide it on, let the spirit evapourate. Thats how I used to fit golf grips

Degla is great the first few times you ride – after that it gets a bit, well meh!! Its pretty tame but lets you open the taps which i suppose compensates for the lack of tech!!! Fast and flowy at Degla.

CyB has a bit more to offer – more variety I guess.

The MARIN trail at Beswty Coed is a good day out.
