Just to be clear – Project, your not happy with the fact that a bike thief gets caught red handed and his arrest gets some publicity – probably to let people know these kinds of operations are being ran (including other thieves) – because it shows other bike thieves a well known method of stealing a bike?
Just goes to show you cant please everyone
willberFree Membermuch the same as me Northwind – i did the prologue stage, realised i was well out my depth and spent the Sunday doing my own thing. There’s a lot of riding up there, and doesn’t really seem like its being exploited yet – perhaps due to its remoteness.
My issue was my fitness was lacking – I knew it was before going, but this event really showed me how much work I need to do. Its a stunning place, and the event was very well executed – despite my lack of involvement this year, I will be back next……. not sure how much the weather has influenced my rose tinted glasses as it was a stunning day on Sunday up there
willberFree MemberU don’t need to put a 160 fork in it but that’s what the frame was designed for, ie 516, 16 refers to the travel, 5 refers to the level of build.
willberFree Membersounds typical of Springers TBH – a hundred miles an hour all their lives and then all of a sudden they burn out. Cracking dogs, had two and will get a third.
Re: advice, cant offer any more than the others……..
willberFree Membersounds like they need bleeding to me – you could try leaving the levers clamped to the bars over night – if it is air in the system, this should get most of it up to the lever body. Then you could remove the bleed screw in the lever body and top the fluid up to displace the air. Or just bleed them.
willberFree MemberIts easy and cheap to make your own – threaded bars, nuts, washers, old bearings. I’ve done a fair few and you dont need a specific press really. They make the job easier, but unless time is of the essence, make your own and take your time – you can still make a pigs ear of it with a bike specific press, so even then you’ll have to be just as careful
willberFree Memberhow well do u know the area?
jacobs ladder into edale, then up to hope cross, left and down potato alley, up hagg side then the DH run down the other side to meet the road that fairholmes visitors centre is on. along to fairholmes, cross over and along BW to the snake pass. Over that, passed heathdene, x the dam then follow BW to castleton, back to edale
That should all be rideable rain or shine
willberFree MemberIf the connections are at the ceiling rose its pretty straight forward. You should have a permanent live into the rose, connected to another going out to the next light. You should also have a wire from the permanent live to the wall switch, and then a switched live wire back to the ceiling rose (the light will be connected to this). You could insert a junction box into either the “live in” or “live out”, run this to the first wall light and wire a rose in there – to switch etc. And then run second cable from first rose to second light and wire another rose in there.
willberFree Memberthe price of sram/avid spares is a joke – i hate them for it. Seems like a shitty way to treat customers – basically rip them off because you know they are screwed without the parts.
willberFree MemberThe way it’s snapped is a bit weird too – its kind of tapered inwards where is broke – almost looks like a pipe cuter has done it.
willberFree MemberStill is a 2 year warranty but they were supplied with my bike which I purchased in the USA.
willberFree MemberWay passed the point where I could get my money back. To be honest they’ve been ok, and since they are worth buttons when sold second hand, I’ve really gotta make do with em for now. I was wondering if I could get an axle made from a stronger metal
willberFree Membernot a troll – i thought about it when i changed from flats to spds on my mountain bike. with spds, the cleats feel too far fwd (even when all the way back). When i ride flats i tend to have the pedal spindle running under the arch of my foot, but with spds, i can only get my foot as far back as the ball.
Ive kinda got used to that position now, but when descending it deffo feels better having the middle of the foot over centre of the pedal, rather than the ball – as with spds (to me that it)
willberFree MemberIt all adds to the fun of road riding – without it, where would the excitement come from? (im joking)
There’s a bit of misunderstanding about assault on here and what constitutes it – the nurse scenario above is just nonsense….from my experience, public order stuff would cover it better in many situations.
Fact is, although serious to us a cyclists – in the grand scheme of things its all fairly petty and minor…..or often starts that way. I think people got to realise that as a cyclist you are very vulnerable, and pride has to be put aside so a situation doesn’t escalate to the point where some cock is using his vehicle as a weapon.
I once got overtook by a lorry and he clipped my rucksack with his mirror – a few meters down the road I overtook him at a redlight and didn’t say anything – just let it go. He then overtakes me again, with his passenger window down and starts screaming at me for ripping his wing mirror off (despite it not even moving), and then he proceeds to try and crush me against the kerb with the side of his truck. I don’t know what happens to people when they get behind the wheel , but they lose it – being mindful of this, and our vulnerability as a cyclist is essential.
willberFree Memberwhat kato said really –
But if they really want to get in, they will – but thieves are quite calculating and will pick targets that are easier to enter and exit. Euro locks take seconds – so if you have them replace them. Also, the weakest parts of doors is the frame where the mortice lock engages – London Bars are good, or better still composite doors and frame. Window locks need to be locked and the keys removed from them – windows at the rear of the house can be fitted with laminated/shatter proof glass. Other than that – a good alarm and always being on top of your security. Most thieves will exploit a lapse in the owners concentration/awareness. OP you sound pretty switched on anyway, so you are doing everything you possibly can………try not to worry too much about it, if the worst happens your insurance is there to buffer some of the effects.
willberFree MemberIm suffering with Achilles tendonitis at the moment, and thought this might help – by help I mean less painful
willberFree MemberIt can only really be the main valve in the seat post that is stuck – i guess a proper bleed of both the post and the lever might sort it, but failing that, its gonna have to be stripped back down to see if the valve is stuck open…..which it must be
willberFree Memberpossibly the internals in the lever are stuck – i assume the air pressure is correct? I’d start with these two (easier) if not it must be the valve in the seat post that locks to post in place
willberFree MemberI think you gotta decide at the top of the hill what your willing to sacrifice on the descent – by that I mean, I decide Im OK with crashing, if it happens, it happens – and I come to terms with it before I set off. Once i’ve decided “Im OK with crashing” I find my riding is easier. Done know if i’ve explained that properly or not, but I think that fear can only exist in a place that doubt creates – remove doubt, remove fear – you can only do that by deciding what your prepared to accept.
willberFree MemberHi Gmex
I’m pretty sure the fact that its a car park has no bearing on the incident – public have access to it, so I think its covered by certain traffic laws. On that basis, a car has struck a pedestrian, and unless the pedestrian acted in a wreck less or unpredictable manner (eg you ran out in front of the car without reason/warning), then the fault will generally rest with the driver. I would report the matter to the police – more because of her attitude and lack of awareness. Asda probably wont release the cctv to you, but they will to the police. The police will take it more seriously if you report an injury – even a minor, such as aching shoulder 😉 I would make a claim against her too (if the police are able to trace the vehicle).
willberFree MemberThanks Andrew and Saxon – 2 great vids, really makes you realise how insignificant we are. I believe that certain things are beyond our understanding – our brains have certain limitations, and I believe that many of ‘the answers’ lie outside of these limitations. Maybe this is where the idea of God etc comes from – our brains way of rationalising that which it/we cannot comprehend.
willberFree MemberWatch out for the CS wielding scrotes that are apparently hiding around there to rob you of your bike!!!
willberFree MemberHi
I don’t believe there is anything you can say that will make it easier for either of you. I guess all you can really do is make it clear to him that you and yours will be there for him whatever happens
willberFree Memberlooks like paint to me – you could remove the paint in that area and check –
willberFree MemberI’d be seeking my own retribution. I hope he recovered and made a HUGE claim against her for the damage and injuries.
I find that most of the “near misses” I encounter on the road are with female drivers in their late 20’s to early 40’s – not intended as an inflammatory remark, purely a statement of my own personal expediences. They tend to stem from ignorance rather than recklessness – where as the fewer encounters I have with male drivers of a similar age tend to be due to aggression.
willberFree Member1 1/8th threadless with press in cups (unless you already got cups pressed in)
willberFree MemberThe cost of Fox spares is a joke – i needed a new rebound knob and they wanted 15 quid, no choice but to pay it. 72 quid is pretty ridiculous tho……..
how much are new lowers? They used to be about 145 quid , and I recently sold a pair for 115 quid without axle…..might be worth thinking about
willberFree Membertell him to do one. I once sold a frame on ebay (456) and clearly stated postage would be 20 quid, due to the packaging, actual cost, cost of travel etc. I get an email from a potential bidder saying postage seems high, and if he wins will I refund any postage cost below 20 quid. I answer with a long explanation of why its a fixed cost. Same guy then goes and wins the item and commences a long drawn out argument about me tryig to rip him off over postage – in the end I binned him off and sold the frame privately to someone else. I concluded that if this guy was such a ****’head over postage, he’d be a nightmare when he recieved the frame.
willberFree MemberI also said that they’d advised me i’d recieve the SIM within a week – so I made arrangments to cover that week with regards to taking calls. However, after a week it was no longer practical or cost effective to continue with these arrangements so I went out and bought a new phone contract – as a result of not receiving the Orange sim. Orange sticking to their guns – simply saying “Your contract began 5th March – 7 days has now lapsed and you have no right to cancel”
willberFree MemberTried that – apparently you only have 7 days from the start of the contract – which according to them started on the 5th March……
I’ve checked, and apparently DSR does only afford you 7 days with regards to phone contracts.
I’ve tried to highlight the point that surely a contract can only start when I recieve the items, or activate them – they say the contract began when the call was made to them……
willberFree MemberI suffered with heat burn for a long time until I got some omeprazole. This was the only thing that stopped mine. But about 2 months ago I started intermittent fasting and I’ve not had heart burn since and haven’t had to take anything for it.
willberFree MemberYes they keep the seals lubed but they also act as a kind of lubricant reservoir to lubricate the stanchions as they slide up and down the bushings. Oil penetrates the foam rings and is constantly replaced over time by the bath oil – if you grease the foam rings the grease will temp stay on the surface before rapidly being diluted snd then replaced by the bath oil anyway
willberFree MemberAre they grease’s? If they are can’t imagine them being much use on the foam rings – no penetration etc
