Recently built up a second-hand Blur LTc and I am incredibly pleased with it. So far it does everything better than my previous ASR5. Nothing wrong with the ASR5 as such, but the Blur just seems to suit me so much better. Little to no pedal bob, even with shock fully open, phenomenal climbing on smooth or technical, fast and fun on undulating stuff. Descents it is very composed on steep, fast stuff, soaks up drops and jumps in its stride, feels unbelievably stiff, corners brilliantly and is just straight up great fun to ride.

The worst thing about our national anthem at sporting events is that no-one actually knows when to start singing, and sort of join in as it goes along. Most people have joined in by ‘..our gracious Queen…’

I literally just finished going tubeless about 20 minutes ago. It was pretty straightforward. Although I did already have Stans Arch Ex rims with yellow tape, and Spesh Purgatory 2bliss tyres.

It was a simple task of removing the tubes, screw in the tubeless valves, fit tyres, fill with stans fluid through the valve core and pump up. Literally worked and sealed first time on each wheel (with a bit of sloshing around of the fluid mind).

Also a decent weight saving for me – my Conti tubes weighed around 200g, approx. 50-60g of fluid and valve went in, means about 140-150g per wheel – worth it without even trying the grip/less punctures benefits

The cynic in me is now a little wary of this sort of thread. Especially after the recent ‘follow me home’ thefts, and the break in at Pedalabikeaway. First thread from the OP who registered yesterday. No replies since. ‘Anyone know any pubs with expensive bikes outside, and the owners inside with their guard down…’

I’m definitely paranoid at the moment, and I’m sure the OP is genuine, but you can’t be too careful these days!

Ooh, I’ll be watching this. Just about to do the same, and planning on putting the sealant in through a Stans valve with core removed, using the 2oz Stans bottle…

Did they pay by paypal? Doesn’t it take a few days to transfer it, by which time he would have known there was a ‘mistake’, can’t really spend it in Tesco 30 minutes later. Anyway yes people do get down on there luck, and I feel for them, I’ve had some rough financial times, but I never robbed anyone to pay a phone bill

Weeksy but he did have the money, because they gave it to him

As with a lot of debts, he probably has the money. An ex of mine worked for a debt collection agency, and heard every excuse under the sun. Nine times out of ten they had the money but for whatever reason found it a lot easier to spend it elsewhere

Whether you bother chasing it up is another matter and I can’t say for certain whether I’d go round to see him unless I was in that situation

Ain’t this a frustrating problem. You get everything back together, head off for a ride to find no braking power at all and the most hateful squeal.

I had a shocking run of contaminating my rear brake pads, like 3 times in about 3 months somehow. Big fail on my part. Each time I tried all the internet cures but each time ended up with a new pair of pads  They work for some people but I had no success at all

I’m meticulous now, and whenever I’ve finished cleaning my bike properly I always clean my rotors with isopropylalcohol before I spin the wheels or apply the brakes

Finances dictated 2 x dual compound. My usual tyres have always been 2.35 60a High Rollers front and rear anyway, so should be a good replacement for them

Unfortunately I can’t really argue with that one, regardless of how much I’d like to, no it’s not particularly neighbourly.

Anyway, in all fairness, my initial post was partly tongue in cheek. Obviously no-one is going to get a cat just to stop others pooping in your garden, it just so happened that when I got two some years ago, that all pooping in my garden ceased. So I decided to relate my experience to the OP as either way it worked for me. I only dug my heels in because D0NK annoyed me. Sensitive and tetchy. Going for a cider in the sun now I think.

D0NK you just properly annoyed me then. Admittedly I’m a little tetchy today, but he asked for suggestions on how to stop cats pooping in his garden and I offered a perfectly legitimate solution that in my experience works, no matter how ridiculous you think it might be. You got anything constructive to add to help the OP?

While I have some sympathy for the guys saying ‘no treatment for fatties or smokers’ it does point to an attitude of ‘no treatment for anyone whose problem could be deemed to have been caused by themselves’ ie a huge percentage of people in hospital. So in a car crash do we treat the victim, but not the guy who caused the crash? Or neither of them, they shouldn’t have got into their cars in the first place coz they’re dangerous.

Get your own cat/cats. Nothing else worked, I tried every hair-brained scheme I read about/was told. This worked a treat for me in a previous home. My cats didn’t poop in our garden, and nor did anyone else’s after I got them. Its a better solution to getting dogs, as cats tend to be out and about doing their own thing in the garden whereas dogs are just stoopid and want to be wherever their owners are. Also dogs kill cats. Cats just scrap with other cats.

Okay I see your comment re : your wife being petrified of non-human animals, but it really does work!

Edit : I love my dogs, but they are definitely stoopid

If that’s the axle Santa Cruz recommend then it’ll fit fine, the hubs are the same. Its how it screws into the drop-out system that varies as far as I’m aware

Well that’s 6 days, I don’t think Rob was saying anything other than anyone know him so that he can find out what’s happened to his money. A simple ‘thanks for the money’ is all that’s required, it doesn’t take a genius. If you can’t provide even that minimum level of service when taking someone’s hard-earned, then its a bit of a poor show. No-one’s expecting a next day turnaround, just some good old-fashioned courtesy! :-)

Rider + bike = total mass that your engine has to propel. Adding 1kg to the bike has the same effect of adding 1kg to your body. The overall mass that your engine has to propel increases by 1kg either way. Anyone searching for an explanation to their own theory is attempting to dispel the commonly accepted laws of physics :-)

Edit : assuming that the 1kg is fat and you maintain the same power output

A lighter bike definitely means less work done by your engine. A corresponding drop in body mass (assuming you maintain the same strength and fitness) will yield the same results when using the same engine.

1 lb of flab on your stomach takes the same amount of effort to move as 1 lb of metal on your bike if the power source is constant, surely!? Lose 1 lb of flab and you have one less lb to propel with the same engine! Power to weight ratio increases of the complete moving package. I’m not saying don’t buy light bits for your bikes, I am always thinking of ways to make my bike lighter, but I’m not going to kid myself – if I lost some weight, the same engine I was using before would have less work to do.

That trail’s great fun. Easy to get carried away though, which is fine in the dry, but I’ve had a few ‘look where you wanna go, dont look at the tree’ moments when its leafy and wet. Always known it as Bluebell Run

Andy that’s a daft question, if you were assembling a bike and choosing the parts would you choose one red wheel, one green one, a yellow frame, pink forks, mauve handlebars etc. No. You wouldn’t. (Unless you were sponsored by Benetton maybe) You’d pick bits that would create a nice looking bike to the best of your budget.

And as I’m crap with colours I need help visualising things!

Good move, plenty of stuff round here.

    Randwick/Standish woods
    Cranham/Buckholt woods and Painswick beacon
    Selsley/Penn woods
    Stinchcombe woods
    North Nibley
    Leckhampton

You could try looking up Bigfoot MBC, a good club with friendly people and a good way to learn what’s around

FoD isn’t far either, and the off-piste there is excellent and there’s so much of it along with the marked XC stuff and DH runs its a great place to ride

I think the expression is ‘re-assuringly expensive’. I would really like one, but even the first LTc’s, 3-4 years old are being pitched around the 1200 to 1300 mark.

Considering one of these as well, might even be the same one! How do current owners find the bike on long, demoralising, fire-road, lane type climbs? I realise its not the bike’s natural habitat, but a lot of the riding I do is natural technical DH-orientated stuff, often punctuated with long climbs back up. Do they suffer from excessive pedal-bob? I’ve ridden an LT ali and liked it, but only downhill, and not for too long

The expression ‘overbiked’ is very annoying indeed…

Especially for those of us that don’t have the luxury of having loads of bikes so that they can pick the ‘exact right bike’ for the given type of ride. Ever consider that?

Derek I normally do the first half of the red, then when you cross a fire road the red is signed straight on, but just to the left is the first single track section of the enduro. Head down there. After that you come back on to fire road but really to complete the loop it’s better following gps or someone who knows it. If you’ve got time just do the first bit then explore, theres lots to find and as long as you don’t cross a main road, it’s hard to get lost. Although some of the best stuff is further afield

    wilko1999

I’ll second that. I always harp on about FoD off-piste stuff, but it really is great, the more I go the more I find. Staunton is the latest section that I’ve explored, and its some of the best yet
