Braindead. Only about 20 years old, so not exactly old, old. Fairly low budget but total gore-fest and hilarious

Or for the “low budget, is this for real?” factor – Basket Case. When we watched this as teenagers it was funny, horrible and weird in equal measure. Any of my mates with a massive spot on their head/face still get called Basket Case to this day.

Now I like Charlotte Hawkins, and I like Susanna Reid, but which one is best. There’s only one way to find out… oh crap, thread closed :D

Hard to quantify without having the bike in front of me. Maybe a couple of mm across the widest part of the tread? Not sure on height. I’m going to have to check now, just out of sad curiosity :-)

Yes, butcher front, purgatory rear on Arch Exs tubeless. Amazingly grippy and relatively fast-rolling set-up for most conditions. Although the butcher isn’t as bulbous as the purgatory if you like your front bigger than your rear :D

    *takes bait…*

“Grrr no-one overtakes me I drive an Audi. And a ridiculously expensive one at that. I’ll show those extremely vulnerable bikers how to drive like a complete c8nt from the safety of my tin box”. Well done mate.

Also – I’d like to see how awesome he thought he was in a standing 1/4 mile race with the bikes.

Try yourcoverinsurance. Seriously they were far and away the cheapest and best option for me.

Trying Beavers this winter. Used Mud Xs and Storms previously, and always preferred Storms. After a particularly grim wet ride last weekend I am very pleased with the Beavers. Not sure they had quite as much traction as the Storms in deep wet mud, but other than that a very good all round wet weather tyre even giving me confidence on roots and rocks.

That sounds great. Usually get lost in FoD as I like to explore, but always find something new and fun to ride. Also got properly lost on Dartmoor a few weeks back, but didn’t find anything fun at all to ride, just a stupidly steep side-slope covered in gorse and sheepsh1t. You win some you lose some.

I’d say if you’re thinking of leaving her because her daughter is a lazy disinterested teenager then you probably don’t truly love her and that is the real problem. It sounds like you are looking for a reason to leave her as deep down you don’t really love her and just simply don’t want to be with her.

I’ve never managed to rescue any contaminated pads. I’ve tried all the usual suggestions. It’s happened an embarrassing 5 times and each time the only way to cure it properly has been new pads. The continuing expense of being clumsy :(

No worries. Hope you didn’t overtighten the plastic adaptor and snap it in half. Like what I did  Luckily I had a spare one

They forgot to mention the ‘look how amazing and advanced my kids are’ category. To be fair I get constantly annoyed by some of the inane bullsh1t that people post up on FB, plus the constant far-too-personal life updates, cliff-hanger statuses etc. but it wouldn’t be a very interesting website if those people didn’t bother posting :-)

As others have said largely depends where you live. When I was 17 (22 years ago…) I saved for a bit and bought a Marin Muirwoods for £200, then rode up the woods in clothing I already had and no helmet. Pretty accessible really. And I was having just as much fun then as I do now riding a Blur LTc on pretty much the same terrain ;-)

Just wanted to chime in with a comment as I ride through these woods a lot.

    There we go

Had mumps a few years ago and it spread to my chestnuts. The left one swelled up the size of a large baked potato for a week, followed by the right one doing the same the following week. I can confirm that the pain had me in tears for the best part of two weeks. Anyone remember Buster Gonad in Viz?

Northwind I thought that to start with, but then I re-read his post and gave him the benefit of the doubt that he meant ‘quid’ as in ‘cash’

If not, then I’m second in the queue for his machining skills

ES51 adaptor and main body should go all the way in, I’m 99.9% certain of that. Take them out and give the threads a bl88dy good clean (sorry if you’ve already done all this), look for signs of any swarf/debris in there etc. Its a fine thread so the tiniest little bit of metal could jam the whole assembly up. Also, a better tool would probably help!
EDIT: Also, try just screwing the adaptor all the way in on its own, if it spins right in, then you’ll know if the main BB body is stopping it

If you’ve ridden the Nevis red (I assume you mean the red DH and not the red XC) then you’ll be fine. Just typical rootsy woodland DH stuff at FoD and hardly any rocks. And its not like the steep bits are prolonged and death-defying, there’s just a few sections that can get a bit hairy in the wet!

How bizarre, I just changed the BB on my 2008 Rockhopper at lunchtime. Fitted an ES25 BB. Both the adaptor and main part of the BB should go in all the way, no spacers required. So what is your BB if its not an E type? If its 70mm wide between the flanges then this could well be your problem

Geetee as I’m the quoted person, I do indeed think the same applies to £2500 carbon frames. I feel that many bike parts are over-priced in all fairness. In the past I used to buy expensive frames and components (before having 3 dependants!) so I would never ridicule anyone for doing the same, as I said before, if it makes you feel good and you enjoy riding them then that’s all that matters :-)

Yeah it’ll be off-piste, so no corkscrew etc. It’ll probably be the Worcester lodge DH that crosses the fireroad and goes off steep, also the track to the right of the Y2K with the steep left into the chute and maybe the run that leads into ‘the bowl’ in Wimberry Slade if that means anything to anyone. Some of those sections get a little hairy in the wet!

Did loads on my motorbike, in the UK and Europe, they’re seriously addictive. Driving/riding on a track is bloody great fun, the amount of grip available and therefore cornering speed is phenomenal. The experience you have linked to looks brilliant. Castle Combe is a very straightforward track, but great fun, and fast as. Do it!

I’ve always thought this was a daft idea, for many of the reasons mentioned above. But with a two-year old, and a brand new boy due 1st November, I reckon late evening is going to become my only riding window for a while. So I’m going to be ManningTFU and heading out Blair Witch winter-stylee

Money – sensitive old topic ain’t it!?

£750 for about a tenners worth of material does seem like a bit of a joke though. No amount of development time, manufacturing and order processing could possibly justify that mark-up!

I’m not criticising people for buying them though, if it makes you feel good and you enjoy riding on them then who gives a monkeys what anyone else thinks though eh?

No-one answered my earlier question in this thread though, and it was a genuine one – how is Enve pronounced? Env, Envy, Envay, Enveh? Someone please enlighten a rim ignoramous (oo-er) :D

If its anything like the staged Enduro earlier in the year, it will be on the much more DH orientated stuff. Probably not the marked DH runs, but there are other un-marked DH-style steep rooty tracks that they use for these events

    wilko1999

Is it pronounced ‘Envy’ or ‘Env’ out of interest?

It’s like everything really, people with a lot of money will always be able to justify something as being ‘worth’ it, even if it is just because owning them makes them feel good. Nowt wrong with that I guess

EDIT : Or ‘Enveh’ or ‘Envuh’ maybe?! :D

Slightly above 100, but I nearly bought a pair of these for the same use you mentioned above

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2013-SR-SUNTOUR-EPICON-X2-LO-R-lite-26-MTB-Lockout-Suspension-Fork-/200942783881?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&var=500173950845&hash=item2ec91f8d89

White or black, with standard lockout (ie not remote) for £135. I don’t think you’ll find much better for the money, and they’re air

Encountered quite a lot of these climbs over Dartmoor a few weeks back. Initially I was quite enjoying the challenge, but the novelty soon wore off as my legs started getting weary. If I had Olympic levels of fitness I think I would enjoy them all the time. To summarise – I like them when I feel fresh and full of energy.
