Anyone in any doubt, or saying Chiellini is as bad and should have been sent off too, or even still putting bite in inverted commas, should watch the following footage on the Mail website

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2668334/Luis-Suarez-bite-Girogio-Chiellini-shows-Liverpool-frontman-dangerous-mind-never-rewired.html

He bit him. Chiellini reacts like any man would if someone sank their teeth into your shoulder – you would instantly want them to stop – so he swings round his elbow to try and get Suarez off him.

Another vote for sedation if you can get someone to take you home after. I thought I was double-hard until I had an endoscopy with just the throat spray. I came out wishing they’d stuck it up my jacksy, seriously

In response to your original post, I ride the local skatepark before work and during lunchtime sometimes, great way to get some practice in when there are no kids around  Although I came off it one lunchtime last week and had to come back to work with a banged up shoulder and a load of skin missing from my elbow

I recently bought one of those 2012 Haro 500.1’s off Winstanleys for £230. However I had the last 21″ top tube version in matt black as opposed to the 20.5″ fluoro yellow that they have left. If you can stomach the colour I’d say go for it, they are great value for money, light and damn good fun to ride :D

I had what I’d call average service just to keep a lid on all the praise. Ordered some in stock ready built wheels on the Monday, had an order acknowledgement quickly. However then it went quiet, phoned a few times and it was being dealt with apparently. They turned up on the following Friday (the one after) so about 10 working days. But no despatch confirmation or any other correspondence. Not horrendous, but not as good as another German site I’d used, Hibike.

Very very nice bike indeed buddy. I hope you give it some welly and truly do it justice :-) Although my only comment would be can you not route the reverb cable through the upper shock mount part of the frame?

Please don’t entertain this guy by even discussing it at any length. I got bored half way through the second paragraph. Rise above it people :D

Glad this thread’s still alive and kicking, any excuse to talk about Manon :D I think (and hope) she’ll do it this year, she seems to have developed more confidence and self-belief which I think was where she’s been slightly behind her rivals in previous years

I took my brand new BMX to the local skatepark for an early morning chav-free sesh before work. The brake cable came loose from the pinch bolt and I did a comedy wobble and crash into some steps with both feet skidding along the floor trying to stop Flintstones style.

    cough hoses cough :D

Ant, XT brakes are dead easy to shorten, normally not even requiring a bleed afterwards, do a search there’s a ‘how to’ somewhere. Go on, give it a go, you won’t have much time for tweaking your new pride and joy soon….

Also, Northwind sent me this link on a recent thread of mine about BMX’s, he was asking £100 plus postage now, good spec, worth considering:

Yeah a 20 or 20.5 will do nicely I reckon. I’m by no means an expert so I’m not sure if that particular model is any good or not, but for 50 sheets it wouldn’t really matter, I’m sure it’d be fine for having a blat round on and learning how to ride a BMX.

Definitely 20″ wheels. I read a lot of threads where people were saying get 24″ as 20″ wheels are twitchy and completely different to MTB wheels that we’re all used to. But surely that’s the point – it is completely different from MTBing. After about 1 minute of riding my first ever BMX I was used to the small wheels, its part of the fun if you ask me and what makes it such a giggle

Good move mate! I had my first go on a BMX at Rush Skatepark, Stroud last Friday night and was instantly hooked. After a bit of research and a max budget of £250 I’m now waiting on one of these to turn up (black 21″ one):

    http://www.winstanleysbmx.com/product/43262/Haro_5001_2012_BMX_Bike

Check out the link below for all of their clearance stuff:

    http://www.winstanleysbmx.com/category/263/Clearance_BMX_Bikes

Quite a few around the £150-£160 mark. As with all bikes you’ll get a higher spec (eg chromoly frame/forks) if you buy second-hand, depends what you want and how long you are willing to wait.

If you’re over 6′ try and look for a top tube of 21″. Normally they’re between 20 and 20.5″.

I enjoyed it so much, can’t ever remember getting such a buzz from MTB’ing. I’m 39 by the way… mid-life crisis ahoy!

A black one of these, I’m like a kid on Christmas eve. Hurry up Winstanleys…

Yeah it was silver surfers when I went, the place was packed. Awesome fun though I was buzzing all night and couldn’t sleep, kid at Christmas, haven’t had that feeling from mtbing ever I think. The links I posted above, most are full cromo, double wall rims, 3 pce cranks, all sealed bearings etc and range from 230 to 300, just can’t decide which to go for. Plaza in Cirencester sounds interesting, look forward to checking it out :-)

That’s great news Jedi, I’m coming to see you Saturday in the Bigfoot group, perhaps you can offer a total BMX novice a few tips :-)

Everyone else, thanks for the suggestions so far

Thanks for the offer bud, I normally buy 2nd or 3rd hand stuff (my two MTBs currently are) but this is a 40th birthday present to myself so its got to be shiny and new, or as near as damn it :-)

If you can stretch that little bit further how about a set of these:

Just bought myself a pair :-)

Good spot funkybaj, that’s gotta be it. Excellent location, surrounded by loads of existing great trails, that entire area is going to be a bit of an MTB feast

I would forward him this thread, all good responses and I think they all highlight that it’s not really your problem, harsh as it may seem to him.

If it’s the one I think it is, it’s called Murdocks and is in FoD. Its in an area where there are loads of established trails that the Forestry Commission are well aware of and tolerate (not sure if that means they can be classed as official though) In fact that area has had signs put up recently stating “no riding or trail-building until August” by the FC due to nesting Goshawks. So maybe someone from the Goshawk Preservation Society* is responsible

    * organisation may not exist

Murdocks? Bit better than wire clothes line traps, but forkin mindless none-the-less and bl88dy infuriating

These get recommended a lot on ‘which 29er wheelset’ threads:

In fact I just bought some myself. Not phenomenally lightweight, but very good for the money. They are going on a Scandal 29er too. As for tyres, I pretty much always use Ground Controls, not as fast as SB8’s but just a damn good all round XC tyre.

I have a pair of 2bliss Ground Controls for sale if interested. They have covered 35 miles, are pretty much like new and I’m only after £35 posted for the pair. They’re 26×2.3, I realise you stated 2.1 in your post but they come up on the small side anyway. Email in profile if interested.

26 or 29? I have a pair of barely used Schwalbe City Jets 26″ that you can have for a tenner if you’re anywhere near Gloucester for collection? :-)

My symptoms vary from mild visual disturbances to full on stroke-like symptoms. After the first time it happened I had a number of MRI scans and consultancies etc before they actually ruled out a stroke. They don’t happen too often but a big one can wipe me out for days

Teadrinker, from experience Maxxis High Rollers, Minions and Advantages, along with Specialized Purgatory, Butcher and Ground Control all go on Arch EXs really easily

Have you tried repeating the big 3 swear words over and over at the top of your voice? Not sure it helps technically but I’ve never got a Schwalbe City Jet on yet without doing it

Agree with black first, then red at Brechfa, you need fresh legs for a couple of those Raven climbs
