My advice is go for a 20″ wheeled one. Lots of people on ‘BMX advice’ threads recommend cruisers, and while I’m sure they’re great, if you’re thinking of a BMX, then you might as well go for the full BMX experience. Me and a mate both got one last year at the age 40. We’re both 6’1 and went for 21″ top tube. You could go longer if you’re tall but they aren’t so easy to find. We both get on fine with 21″ – use them for pump/BMX tracks, concrete parks and Rush Indoor Skatepark. Also for just razzing round the garden with the kids on their balance bikes.

Have a look on Winstanleys, they always have good spec BMXs at discount prices. I bought mine there – full cromo frame/forks, 3 piece cranks, sealed bearings, double-walled rims etc for £230.

They’ve removed the tree jump and log drop into the bombhole on Frying Pan. Also not sure if the first jump has been demolished on Fetter Hill or its just fallen into disrepair.

Slightly off the current discussion – but an amusing Jonah Lomu vid in the run up to the world cup…

Excellent idlejon! I remember picking up a business card for it at Captain Jacks in Woolacombe in about 1992. I am truly sorry I didn’t get there to see over 1200 paperweights all in one venue 😥

I always wanted to go to the Yelverton Paperweight Musuem but sadly it is now closed.

Littledean Jail in FoD. Boasting some pretty macabre stuff, but very much worth a visit if you like that sort of thing:

I had an MRI on my head last Friday. I’d been up since 4:30 with my early-waking toddler and fell asleep in the scanner which is no mean feat as it is bl88dy noisy in there. A bit like an 80’s industrial techno illegal rave.

Ace video! All the good BMXers hold their bars like that at my local park. Obviously meaning that I don’t 🙁

Kens Burger Van on the A38 just south of Gloucester. Enormous french stick, 6 rashers of bacon, 4 fried eggs – £3.50. Free tea or coffee while he makes it too.

When I hear a recording of myself talking I sound like the sort of person who I would think is a ****. The tone of my voice, my accent, the things I say are just annoying. I must be so annoying to the people I know.

Was wondering the same thing last week. Not sure why Noel Edmonds has suddenly become a styling cue for the fashion conscious

We’re camping at Deanwood Campsite over August bank holiday, here:

    http://www.deanwoodcaravanandcamping.co.uk/

It’s in a lovely spot, has a great reputation and even has a kids play barn. Its not far from the trail centre, however its also right in the thick of loads of great off-piste stuff. You can literally ride out of the campsite and almost straight onto 4 or 5 downhill tracks.

Whitemead as mentioned above is also great for the trail centre and off-piste trails, but gets a lot busier. Two good options though.

Weekend in FoD. Saturday chilled day playing on the DH tracks at Pedalabikeaway, Sunday all-day off-piste singletrack epic, can’t wait 🙂

Can we keep this sort of ‘hey everybody, look how amazing my holiday location is’ claptrap to Facebook please. Next you’ll be starting a thread titled ‘grrr, I’ve had it with everyone, I now know who my friends are’ and then not responding to any of the ‘aww, whats up hun?’ responses.

    😉

Not sure. What I do know is that a lot of manufacturers ‘tune’ the noise of the indicators to give them a ‘high quality’ sound

Definitely a good bit of sighthound in there. His head shape/ears and front legs look just like our Lurcher’s did when he was that age. He’s adorable 🙂

I was very sceptical of tubeless. Didn’t like the idea of filling my tyres with sealant, the associated mess etc, faff of fitment. In the end I bit the bullet and went for it and am extremely happy with the outcome. Just pick rims and tyres that are renowned for their tubeless ease. I’m on Stans Arch Ex and Maxxis High Roller 2’s, tubeless’d a cinch. Previously used the STW approved purgatory/butcher combination and they were dead simple too. A side benefit is that I don’t chop and change tyres all the time now, just ride what I’ve got – this has genuinely improved my riding as I no longer try and make up for poor skills with different tyres.

Leatt 3DF another good option, 39.99 from CRC at the moment, and excellent reviews. They size up a bit small though, I had to go for the XXL

That’s another good suggestion – refurb them. We had the front four sash’s refurbished last month, cost £580 including removal, refitting, sorting the weights etc, making them slide properly, primer and two top coats. Also some of them needed sections filling and sanding, so all in a good deal.

I’m expecting a quote to replace 5 old sash’s with ‘push-out sash’s’ to be sent to me tonight, I’ll post up the results!

We’re also considering doing what jekkyl suggested above. I know you can buy a PVCu sash approx 1000 wide x 1500 tall (proper sliding style) with georgian bars, ventilation openings etc for around £300.

It did make me chuckle a little, that he’d consider eating them, not even definitely eat them 😀 Come on hilldodger if you’re reading this, what have you got against venerable tea time classics such as Rich Tea and Digestives?
