I made this up a month or so ago, same reason. It was pretty simple, and I can give you the dims if needed.

As a few have mentioned, I have the Genesis Croix de Fer ti, really nice frame with great tyre clearance.

Cheers for the replies, after I took it up to about 50psi it was only about a 150/200mm section on one side that wouldn’t pop out, so I dropped it to 30psi and rode it up and down the road for a few minutes, its all seated nicely now.

    Thanks again!

I got a Contend SL1 specifically as a winter bike, found out in the space of a few weeks that no mudguards actually fit it properly as (although they make a point of mentioning guard fixing points in the advertising blurb…) there is no clearance between tyre and fork crown, ended up using clip-ons anyway…

In reality though, these are the second set of Widget clip-on guards I’ve had, they really are very good, and the SL1 is otherwise also very good.

Club road ride tomorrow, give the MTB a spanking on Sunday! BBQ/beer/pub fitted around that somewhere.

BT product is pretty good, I’ve been with them for a few years. As has been mentioned though, their customer service is bloody terrible should anything go wrong…

I’m 178 and just recently built a Medium, its perfect.

OK, so question part 2, for most MTB’ing tubeless is a no brainer, with the higher pressure of road tyres (and the fact that I’m not really getting any flats anyway), is it worth the messing about, or am I just itching to try something needlessly for the hell of it?

Pretty much, I have some 35mm CX tyres I’ll chuck on it if I’m expecting to do much off road, but as long as you aren’t hooning on wet mud the old Gatorskins are OK.

Cannondale with an Alfine 8 speed, bomb proof if a bit heavy.

I have an Ally seatpost in mine, never had a comfort complaint. The wider rims might be nice if you do get some wide rubber on there at some point, the frame is not the limiting factor! The current carbon fork is not drilled for a guard at the crown, the new stock should be but its worth asking when you place the order.

Wix is really simple to set up and edit, I used it for my own site a few weeks ago, had a good looking site within a few hours. (Well, I think so, lol)

If it helps any, I have just finished a CDF build, there is loads of mudguard space.

I’ll ask the daft question, is the shifter and cassette definitely the same ‘speed’

Yes, could well do. I was limited for distance off the wall though (still need to lift them off), and my other bikes are grubby MTB’s so live in the garage anyway!

I built this a few weeks ago, it came out at about 2100 high and seems to work well. In hindsight, I probably could have shaved a few more mm off above the bottom bike.

Having just built a bike myself, I learned quite quickly that you get a lot more for your money if you buy ready made. That said, even though I spent quite a lot on a bike that is still 105, 105 is really pretty good, and I have exactly the bike I have wanted for years.

Yep, speak to Sportline, who are the distributor, or your local Genesis dealer. They will be able to get the carbon fork for it.

Not sure whats going on there, I also have an Ultra 8 set up as a commuter. I run 28’s rather than 25’s, but its no slouch. I’d say (as above) its faster than my mtb’s, but not as quick as a lighter weight road bike.

Another vote for the Marathon Plus, 40 thousand miles over 4 and a half years of commuting, no punctures. (had my fair share on other bikes though…)

Could do, I was just trying to keep it easy. If its not going to cause any ill effects I’ll stick with it as it is.

SammyC, I’ll check later, but I don’t think I have room for the 2 bars side by side between the speaker and the wall, hence going the way I did.

benp1, the CDF Ti is the summer bike so won’t see a lot of mud/water at the best of times, the Giant gets hosed off after winter riding, can drip dry in the porch then come in again. If its that muddy I’ll take the CX or the 29er!

Great stuff thanks! Not dealt with an 11 speed braise on before, didn’t know about that little grub screw!

Another vote for the Croix de Fer, just finished a build of the titanium flavour, its stunning. Room for guards, racks and 35mm rubber.

Got to say I’m really happy with my custom build on a Genesis CDF Ti frame, it has all the braise on’s you were looking for.

I have 760 renthals on 3 bikes, but 710 flats on my 29er, because the riding position is a bit different I don’t really notice it. (Longer frame, stem on the 29er). 650 would definitely feel odd nowadays.

I used to run the Giant PXC2’s on my anthem, they came up OK after taping and sticking a valve in. I’d give it a go!

I’m about 5’8″, and have (amongst other things) a Medium/18 inch Felt 9. Though its sacrilege almost, I do have a dropper on it. Within reason as its an XC bike, I’ll ride anything with it that I’d do on a 26″

All I can say is they are pretty bomb proof anyway, mine must have done 15 or 20k miles now, and is still due it’s first service. The bike is generally well looked after though, as cynic says, one go with a jet wash and it might be another story…

Helly Hansen DRY Mens Stripe Long Sleeve Crew Top (pasted from a website)

I have had 3 of these for over 15 years, all 3 probably washed and worn almost every week. They look a bit battered now, but still very wearable.

Was an awesome day indeed, the apple flapjack at the first stop was great! 1400 meters of climbing in about a 50k ride, love Dartmoor!

I live about 5 miles from Lustleigh, happy to catch up when you get here and show you some local trails. Otherwise, as people have mentioned nutcracker on the cleave, and around the Manaton/Water/Lustleigh/Parke woods area are all good trails. An afternoon ride out from Princetown about 30 minutes away is worth doing, and Haldon Forest trail centre is also worth a visit, about 20 minutes in the other direction.

Certainly is! My preference is a Coleman Craz x1 tent and a 2 season vango bag. Always got the thermarest as well, lose a lot of heat into the floor otherwise.

Yeah, that phone mast thing is Princetown, so its the right area. I did East side of the moor yesterday, Haldon this morning.

I’m sticking with the 32, (with an 11-36), I do find the extra speed I seem to carry up hills with the 29er make the gearing work out. Plus its nice to get the speed advantage at the other end of the cassette! Bike build is fairly light though, that helps a lot with gearing choice.

Maxxis Crossmark are fast, and OK on trails if it’s not muddy.

Julzm, I’ve not had an issue with specialised tires tubeless, only ones I have had trouble with are the 26″ Maxxis Crossmarks on the singlespeed and 2 fs bikes, they never want to seat at all. Perfect once on though! Decent high volume for a 2.2 as well.
