I’m up for this. How will the gpx be issued?

Yeah, the bank holiday is on Friday 8th May. I think Charlie is looking to run the dirt dash Fri/Sat, leaving Sunday free for recovery beers.

I used one of these for an overnighter last summer. I think I used some alpkit velcro straps on the bars, to keep it tight up to the bars; and wrapped the headtube strap around the stack of spacers that sit between the stem and frame – though my stem has more rise. It seemed to work ok, but scuffed the headtube badge.

Just tried to buy a ticket, and it’s sold out. Gutted, as I missed the posts about limited number remaining. Please let me know if anyone has a ticket that they can’t use… Thanks

I will definitely try and get along for the talks etc. What’s the plan for the ride out / bivvy? It would probably require time off work for me though…

I’m told that the newest bikes (v3) have 40mm rims, my original version has 45mm rims. Possibly a bit wide for 2.2s…

You could think about a second wheel set for narrow tyres. Some folk run them with 29er wheels, but they have to be pretty narrow.

Depends what you want to use it for, I find that once up to speed it actually rides quite well on roads with standard tyres.

I agree about rigid 29ers / flat-bar gravel bikes. Probably called something new and unheard of like ‘all terrain bikes’…

Also, enduro-style events for e-bikes will take off.

I bought a pre-referendum Sonder Transmitter NX Yari for £999 (which increased in price shortly after the people had spoken) on a cycle to work scheme. I think I was the first person to buy from them that way, so it took a bit of sorting out. Anyway, because they are direct sales, I had to fund the extra 10% that goes to the C2W provider as commission.

Might be worth checking if that is still their policy, you might save more money elsewhere.

    Ace bike though…

I went from a 50/34 double with 12-28 cassette to a 38 single with 11-32 cassette. I wanted to keep the low-end roughly the same as some regular hills require lowest gear. I’m pretty happy with the new set up, mostly ride lanes/gravel roads in rolling South Wales hills. It spins-out before reaching 30mph, but am probably coasting downhill if going above that sort of speed.

Having said that, if buying again I would probably go for a 40T or maybe oval-40T if available.

They are both reviewed on the GritCX channel of this website, if you’ve not read it already…

Yay, it looks like a firmware update has solved the problem. Thanks for the suggestions.

I had same issue with that tyre and wheel combo. I wore tough gardening gloves to get it started.

It then took careful use of decent (Park) tyre levers to get it off the rim. The Sonder levers that came with the bike snapped pretty quickly.

Tubeless set up was easy, popped on straight away with track pump.

Do you work in the middle of the roundabout?

No, nothing as exciting as that for me… I’m in the small business park on the other side of the roundabout.

I have no more to add, other than I would also recommend Cwmcarn.

Interested in this thread though as I work over the road from the Village Hotel and didn’t realise that there was decent riding on the doorstep…

Weather looks better tomorrow – have a good day OP.

Does anyone know if the Thule pack n pedal is any good. Seems expensive to me but should fit most bikes with seat stays.

In case anyone on this thread is interested, CRC replaced my post quickly without question.

The new post seems way better than the old one straight away. I realise now that with the old one I had to unweight the post and then reapply weight to get it to drop. Not so with the new one, just push the lever whilst seated and it drops. The new one seems to have less unwanted movement too.

Not sure if the design has changed slightly in the meantime. New post has slightly different seals and decals on the top-cap.

I have ridden there quite a few times as I live really close by. Unfortunately, I rely on a riding buddy for directions as I struggle to find the best bits when on my own (i.e. get completely lost and waste time on some pretty rubbish trails).

Bits I have ridden tend to be downhill tracks linked up by fire road type tracks.

It does tend to get pretty filthy and boggy in wet weather. Seems to take a while to dry out too.

Mine developed loads of play (saddle twisting left / right) after a handful of rides. As this happens the cap at the top of the static section of the post works loose. Saddle only twists when at full extension.

During my last ride it was also not returning properly.

Not sure whether something has worked loose / there is a manufacturing fault with mine / they are all just a bit crap. Whichever, it shouldn’t be doing this.

I am currently waiting to hear back from CRC.

I like the sound of this and will definitely enter if I am free – need to check with the boss first.

I’m not going to be a contender for the win, but the event is so close to home (within riding distance) that it would be a great chance to try something new.

Some replacement cycling glasses, which saved me from fessing up to losing the pair that the mother-in-law bought me for Christmas. All through the power of the forum!

I bought a Transmitter at the pre-Brexit price, and also used cycle to work scheme. An awesome bike for the money. I have the Yari NX version and love it.

However, tyre pressure is really crucial so i check them regularly and my rear tyre (trailblazer) fell apart way sooner that it should have.

I have read that whilst 29 wheels will fit, you won’t get a decent tyre width to fit the rear. I’ve not tried this, so would be interested to hear if anyone has…

I was thinking about this the other day, for my Croix de Fer. Decided that new wheels, tyres and discs (assuming keeping 700c wheels for spare / road use) is getting a bit pricey.

Will prob try fatter 700c first. Hoping that Surly Knard or WTB Nano will fit??

My WTB Trail Boss 3.0 (front) and Trailblazer 2.8 (rear) are pretty useless in the mud – and they are falling apart after a handful of rides… The sidewalls are totally failing, especially on the Trailblazer.

I was considering Nobby Nic on the front and Rocket Ron on the rear, as inspired by Shand. Or possibly NN front and back during winter.

Would be really stretching the budget for Rekon or Dirt Wizard (if I could even find them).

Thanks for the tips. I’ll make sure I do it at 6 o’clock (whilst watching The Simpsons) 😉

The only downside to the CX was that it was a bit harsh after 3 hours of bumpy stuff which wouldn’t be such a problem with this one!

I can easily see myself being out there for 3 hours. 27.5 plus (armchair) it is then.

I’m in. Not ridden it before.

Any thoughts on which bike to use? Options are 27.5 plus hardtail or steel CX bike. I imagine that both are equally (un)suitable…
