I’m riding a dialled alpine with good spec and going for a whyte T130 works as my full sus alternative. Weighs about the same with a bit less bounce on the front but a lot more at the back (and bigger wheels).

Cwmcarn is closest and two good xc trails and two DH runs.

Just to offer a different perspective in the shop I work in we are reducing road stock to make more room for the MTB bikes/stuff that we sell more of.

It is quite telling that everyone in a LBS here has said they don’t do anything for free.

Pretty sure none of us really said that…
Just tubes, I do loads of small jobs for free if it is someone who doesn’t assume they will get it for free and is nice to me. People who assume they get discounts/free stuff are less likely to get it. A kid with a banged up old bike and not much money got his work done at half price and I gave him some free grips because his were dangerous (to give an example)

People are so soon to slag of the cycle industry for taking money from people, but that is the aim of all businesses isn’t it?

I bet your wages (that you spend on knock of Chinese gear) comes from a “money extracting company” of some sort or another.

The average person who needs a tube fitted has just pulled their 15 year old bike out of the shed and doesn’t know how to fix it.

99% of people who want a tube fixed don’t buy anything else, as most people who ride bikes for a hobby and spend money on bikes generally know how to do it themselves.

Like I said, a deal can always be done but at least ask for one don’t just assume you get one.

I fitted loads of tubes today and put the wheels on a bike someone bought on eBay and didn’t know how to do it (qr wheels with v brakes) nobody paid more than a tenner. Expecting it to be done for free takes the Michael a bit.

    Such as this conversation today.
    Me:”This bike is £1500″
Customer:”How much is it for me[/I] though?”

I had never seen him before or had he ever been in the shop. I’m always up for a deal but not when people think they are just automatically entitled.

    BTW my response was £1500

As above the steerer should be ~3mm below the top of the stem anyway.

Saw a programme before where someone stripped a car down to parts and buried it during WW2 so it wouldn’t be scrapped for making tanks/planes. It was dug up years later and restored

Not really you can just peddle up the xc and down the DH.

good to know it was nice and easy.

Could have just found out in work on Monday, but sat here deciding which bike to buy and making a list of all the things to change as soon as I get it because it is far to hot and humid to sleep!

Usual process for us is to order/build a bike if deposit is paid then you can try for size before paying the balance when it arrives, then if it is wrong can be transferred to something else, we only have so much space in a small shop so 90% of display bikes are medium size.

Send them back, happens to some pairs bit usually sorted on warranty.

Just be aware that if you need to claim they will know it was previously written off so will not pay out as much for it, bit if it is a bargain I’m the first place then it works out OK.

Few changes since this pic (need to take some new ones)

Absolutley love it, ride it to work, done BPW, Cwmcarn, afan, skateparks, and even put the kid seat on the back, does everything I could want it to.

Thinking of dropping the travel a bit when I get a full bouncer though as 160mm is a bit of a handfull on the climbs.

I built my current one buying bit by bit when I had the money. Now I might get credit on the next one seeing as I can sell it for what I paid for it twelve months later when I want something new.
