Not sure the process is the one to go for if you want to have a lighter bike… my mates one was 34lbs stock. With a lot of £££ upgrades is now closer to 31 but still weight considering another brands bike of the same travel/spec would be a few lbs lighter.

You can tell the insurance company and pay an excess have a bit of cash towards your stuff and have higher premiums…

Or you could tell them a stone flicked up from a passing lorry and smashed your window. This wouldn’t get you any money for your stuff but would mean it only couonts as a windscreen claim and the excess is usually quite low and doesn’t normally change your future premiums…

Rim width makes a big difference the tyres I love on my modern wide wheels feel horrendous and squirmy on old narrow rims even when pumped up to higher pressures.

IF you train 99% of the time on your tarmac or whatever you probably get more out of sticking with than rather than using a slightly more aero harsher bike in a peloton.

I’ve got a wet/dry Panasonic foil and it is great, good shave and lasts a good few weeks on a charge.

It makes sense, obviously last minute tubeless set up could be a faff but if they are only back up then tubes should be OK, also saves swapping cassette and aligning brakes for new wheels etc

Just swap to the beavers on the other wheels?

Takes 5 minutes if you use the tubes and will save you at least a pound…

    Hardtail?

If you can afford to spend £200+ on a new shock you can spend £100 on a service on the current one surely?

    Chromebook?

As long as general use doesn’t involve installing specific programmes then they are awesome.

I think we are over thinking this…

People who buy oranges like to buy stuff that looks the same as it did 20yrs ago.

This is much more compatible with 650b than 29″ 😉

Just realised my coment last night made no sense, I thought it was about the five 29 not the alpine 5…

As long as you don’t expect them to actually be good flat pedals then go for it.. .

Personally for a bike that might get ridden to the shops now and again in normal shoes I just use proper SPD pedals because they are fine with trainers for a leisurely ride anyway.

23 mins leisurely uphill ride to work, ~9hrs of talking/messing with bikes and 13 downhill minutes home.

Isn’t the alpine five just the same thing with a longer fork and heavier/burlier build kit?

So it hasn’t really gone just got a different name

I’m probably getting the Trek Stache 29+

Ideally i’d get some light XC wheels tyres for it also to make it more dual purpose.

If you are considering hope cranks, there is less… well crank to hit.

So a hope 175mm crank has less crank arm after the pedal thread than most.

My mate does… It works apart from pulling to the right a bit.

Legal standard for a new bike is 2mm for disk 1mm for rim brake…

On cytech course we had to get below 0.2mm to pass. 0.1mm is achievable so 4mm is pretty bad…
