I’ve looked through that and it looks very similar to the Ramones 2014 colour scheme but this has a different (higher) spec so wondering if it’s a different model from that year or something, you’d think they would just put the name on the graphics somewhere…

One of the local bikeshops have said they have run out/aren’t selling anything under £2k so don’t bother asking!

I sold a terrible old Carrera that had no brake or gear cables fitted for £25 and had about 40 messages of people biting my arm off for it probably could have sold it for £50! It’s crazy

Been having a look at the frame graphics aren’t exactly the same either. This one has black stantion forks, 9 speed SRAM and avid Elixir brakes.

Fork has matching graphics to the frame so doubt someone has changed them…

It’s 24″ wheels and literally says nothing on the frame apart from commencal and Andorra… I have looked at their site but I have no idea what year it is and haven’t found anything that looks the same as they seem to have names the 24″ bikes a bunch of things over the years

Looks like this one actually, some components different but they could have been changed or might be a different model year but should be enough to get the right hanger

I’ve been out of the loop a while but I’ve always used specialized tyres. £30ish for the decent ones.

There’s a few options of tread patterns depends how gnar you want, control for lighter weight and GRid for tougher casing.

Check the specialized website some tyres are £15-16 on clearance at the moment

I bought the Wahl colourcoded clippers for £13 from Argos and they work fine. Did the kids hair to a reasonable standard, then tried to get the Mrs to help with mine which immediately resulted in her nearly cutting my ear off…

So I decided I could do it myself but I can’t see the back of my own head so the only logical solution was to grow a mullet. Been growing for about a month now just trimming it in.

Seems most are on my side of the fence then, in all fairness the kid has an alternative bike so he’s not being deprived or anything. Just seems an unwinnable battle trying to keep a kids bike in mint condition (assuming it’s for resale value). My neighbour is a roadie though…

My kids bikes get bought for the oldest and then passed to his 18months younger brother so they get 3-4 years of solid abuse before being sold.

The kids a about 6 and it’s a small dead end street so not really a risk of leaving it somewhere to get stolen as they aren’t really left unsupervised. I agree that point would apply when older and going to the park etc alone

I had hopes after I had shimanos and then guides I did a “bling” build of everything I wanted and chose e4s and they were honestly quite disappointing. They do have “a lot of feel” as people say but to me that meant “you have to pull them really hard to slow down”.

Another vote for Humvees. I’m fatty and I’ve always used them. Big thick elasticated waistband makes them comfy and they last ages.

As a fat bloke I (so even less reason to worry about using anything because of weight) I can say that bars, stems erc have never been a point of any great flex on my bikes but if I jump on a bike with cheap cranks I can 100% make them flex

It’s a 2014 bike so ancient now really. 2×10 gears 100mm stem etc.

Current parts fitted are 35mm purple hope stem which doesn’t match at all but makes it fit a lot better and my rethal carbon fatbars because why not.

The Saint cranks are the 68/73 version so will fit with an adaptor for the bb30, I need the extra 10mm shorter to make a dropper post fit really…

also have a single NW hope chainring on them (which is also purple!) And I have a brand new 11 speed xt mech and shifter also in my spares box so just a chain and cassette away from a 1×11 conversion.

Might just embrace the fact it’s not gonna be like my old bikes that were all shiny bling colour matching etc and just do whatever works

    Thanks!

I live in Wales so plenty of great trails I’m just not allowed to travel to any yet… So just some local rides to get me back into it for now.

Best £5 lockdown purchase I’ve made. So many Slowmo videos of the kids crashing

    Thank you!

Plans are to get rid of the hope stem as purple is a bit out of place on a red/black frame (which seems to be a demo bike only colour as none of the actual for sale models of the bike were this colour scheme)

First time I’ve ever had a bike with this short amount of travel, so might up the reba to 120mm if I’m gonna give it a service anyway. The fox/brain shock probably needs a service too. I also have a brand new XT 11 speed mech and shifter I never used to that may get used at some point.

I have some old magura MTS and have ridden bikes with some of the new ones and have to agree with the post above. They just feel weird the levers are a weird shape and seem to always have a lot of travel before they bite.

I’ve had, magura avid brakes, SRAM guides, hope e4s and various Shimano brakes. The only ones I regretted swapping for something else was shimano Zee’s just so much power and great feeling brakes. Xt and XTR are very similar so would be interested to try the new 4 pot versions

I’m not as incompetent as I sound I just struggle to explain things the way I’m thinking about it sometimes.

Anyway thanks for everyone’s help, got it all up and running now was simply a case of wiring to the boiler where I had a live feed to use and the knew 100% what the terminals were, as it turns out the wires swap colours 3 times on the way to the old thermostat!

    wiggles

Also I noticed on the boiler wiring diagram it shows the stat as having the two switching wires and a neutral… I thought the COM wire was the live.

Not sure that makes any difference to what I did as I wired it where it said to wire COM anyway

    wiggles

I tried putting a link between live and 1 which was labeled as COM on the old stat and it still doesn’t power on the receiver as I’d expected and read other people had done with similar 3 wire set ups.

So looks like I’ll have to wire it from the terminal block in the boiler.

Edit: as per what regenisis has added on his post, thanks

Ok thanks guys I’m starting to see why this is more complicated than I thought, so I’d need to mess with the “clock” (which I’m not gonna do) I thought of I have it turned to off then essentially the clock isn’t part of the system?

Looks like someone has just used normal coloured 3 core wire out of the boiler then it changes colours further down the line making it it a bit more difficult to work out what does what. So I know what red, yellow and blue do downstairs but not sure if blue turns to brown or yellow/green etc

Hot water works fine and don’t need the heating at the moment, but obviously trying to sort it now before it’s starts getting colder.

The thermostat has batterys but the receiver doesn’t

I’m not dead set on keeping the hive if there’s an easy alternative with 7 day programming without the connectivity I’ll just take it back and swap if it makes my life easier

    wiggles

Yes it was working… Was because it cracked while being removed so isn’t much good anymore

    wiggles

No, the brown/blue/yellow/green go through the same style wire as the other one to the boiler.

All the other wires appear into the wall

    wiggles

I thought that at first but if those wires are completely disconnected the boiler still turns on…

The other wire goes to the switch and looks like this

I’m learning to not assume anything is the way you expect/it is supposed to be with this house ….

    wiggles

This is the other wire that comes from the boiler

    null

So the brown, blue and yellow/green come from the boiler

    wiggles

I have found them… As there is only two wires going to the boiler so it must be in one of them it’s just hard to know which is which when the colours must change at some point along the way.

House is a 70’s build with annoyingly original wiring with only very minimal bits that have been updated over the years… So it’s a bit of a patchwork of sorts when it comes to wiring

As you don’t seem to know this, get an expert in

The clock function can be turned on/off which I already said…

I tried wiring it into the other wire from the boiler (boiler turns on with this disconnected completely so the switched one is the power) but again nothing happened but it’s hard to know what wire is what, as the colours at the thermostat Don’t match what’s at the boiler end

I had a very basic digital thermostat so just up/down adjustment with the 3 wires shown coming out the wall. I have copied the labels on N/o, N/c and com and put these wires in the correct position on the hive receiver and it doesn’t power it on.

The 3 wires disappear into the wall and none of the wires at the boiler end correspond colour wise so a bit lost with where they go, otherwise I could just wire the receiver in the cupboard with the boiler where I have access to power as well.

I was told it would work fine with the 3 wires I have but this doesn’t seem to be the case.

Didn’t have any way of adjusting those things hence the purchase of new thermostat. Well it has a dial for 24hr timer but you can just turn that off to run it off thermostat all the time

Boiler is a baxi platinum 28

That what I thought but wiring it into where the old thermostat was it doesn’t seem to power on there are no lights coming as of it doesn’t have power

Depends on the type but some dealers will have a master set they can use to take the old ones off and replace with new or if you are lucky just sell you a new key to match the old nuts.
