Very nice! Looks like it needs a good ragging. Is it just for fun or for racing as well? I’m off to Rheola at the weekend which should be fast and muddy.

For best results open it on youtube, make sure its selected and then mash “2”. Makes it jump to 20% of the video which is just perfect!

I need a new mech hanger.

Is the mech also broken, hard to see in the photo?

I had the same problem with my 2008 ex9, drive side bb came loose from either not being tightened enough or being overtightened in the first place. I would guess that trek will say it is a maintenance issue, but its always worth asking the question. They tend to be good on warranties, my rear triangle is being warrantied for the second time, no issues about agreeing to do it but it has now been 15 weeks without the bike as they don’t have the parts. Whereas before it was 10 days all in.

I used BETD (frames/frame repair) who will put a sleeve in for £60 plus postage. You have to supply or buy from them a bb so they can fit it and make sure its ok. I can’t recommend their bb’s though as mine ceased solid after 3 dry rides and one drizzly one.

Just drive it in on the starter motor.*

    They use boxes because:

Posties who’s bags are full, left the jiffybags behind at the depot instead of delivering them.

In town, all boxes are delivered by a separate van so issue above is removed. (the fact that you still get a “you weren’t in” card doesn’t seem to factor)

Boxes fit better into the lorries collecting from them, saving at least 1 lorry a day, so environmental reasons (bet they got a cheaper rate too).

    Automatic packing saves man power.

Cardboard is recyclable, jiffy bags aren’t as easy to, normally end up in waste.

Sure there were some others that I read in some article, basically its just cheaper for them.

I did a few between school and university, the three hardest consecutive days were probably:

    Col d’Aubisque
    Col du Soulor
    Col du Tormalet

    Col de Aspin
    Col de peyresourde
    Col de Mente
Col de Port d’Aspet (edit: this could have been 2 days, the pain is too much to be able to remember)

    Col de la Core
    Col d’Agnes
    Port de lers

LHS’ idea didnt work for us at gatwick, as they check the weights again when you go over to oversized luggage hand in.

last year got my cardboard bike box to 31.5kg with a huge amount of stuff, but my other hold luggage was only 12kg, so I had the joy of ramming lots of my friends stuff in it to get his suitcase bike box down from 38kg,

What extras can you get away with in your bike bag?

As long as you don’t go over the weight limit you can take anything, they won’t check (they might ask ‘is that just your bike?’, I always say ‘yes just my bike stuff’ nice little white lie). I always use pads, tyres some clothes to help protect the frame as well as a mega ton of bubblewrap.

edit: I’m off on a week Saturday. I believe the term is stoked!

What it is worth is normally in the envelope between these two figures, dependant on condition and whether the item is in demand:

    original cost * 0.5 * 0.9^(n-1) where n is its age

    original cost * (2/3)^n

The main parts you’ve upgraded are brakes and wheels, the rest probably didn’t add significant value. You also need to factor in what the replaced parts are worth. Brakes 150 minus 80, and wheels 300 or 400 (max on a lucky day) minus 120ish.

So your bike in original spec is worth between 505 and 690 depending on condition plus 250. So overall around 755 to 940. Might stretch to 1000 if you have a lot of interest (eg drunken ebay war)

Surely emptying depends on crust thickness, solids height and water volume for dilution and bacteria treatment. Rather than being time dependant. So provided that the crust or solids don’t become too thick/deep that they can flow through the dip pipe the soak away will be fine. More so if you have 2 tanks, first for solids and the second mainly for the bacteria to clean the liquids with some further settling of fines.

I agree that to be prudent emptying once a year is advisable especially if you are in a high water table area, and have a treatment plant as well, as soak away efficiency is critical, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be.

Sewage flows into the septic tank, the solids settle out and then excess fluid goes into the soakaway. In theory you only need to empty the septic tank to remove solids, the tank should always appear full of liquid with a solid crust on top made from oils and such like (except immediately after emptying). Most companies will recommend emptying it every 12-18months depending on how many persons are in the household. Really its up to you to decide when it needs doing.

Basically don’t put bleach or large solids down the drain that might block the system or that might kill off bacteria. You need them to clean the water for you. You will know when you have used something that has killed them as it will stink.

Depends which hubs you have. I’ve always wondered about a sleeve with 20mm OD and 15mm ID but never seen one. Someone else might have I guess.

Ask the shop to phone Fishers and check what the turn around is like at the moment, say that you need the forks for your holiday. Decide from information given.

My boxxers took about a week to be warrantied in January, they could be busier this time of year but may rush it through if necessary.

Use their crash replacement, expensive but no where near new cost.

If you try and straighten it out and it breaks then the crash replacement will not cover you and you will have to pay full whack! If its not too bad then just keep using it until you get a few more.

The steerer spaces or the top race seal spacers? Googling says that they no longer come with the steerer spaces, its just old pictures and instructions as cane creek haven’t sent out new information to retailers. Mine is missing the seal spacers.

Well it’s not all that private, looks like they are pretty much inviting all their users. Instead of inviting everyone at once which would cause a massive rush in the warehouse, and everyone on STW complaining about slow processing and delivery times, they are inviting smaller groups one at a time so they can keep up with demand.

That’s my interpretation of it anyway.

So the more bikes I am willing to sell, the higher my optimalN? Should it not be -S?

I saw it this afternoon, I was doing the thing where you stare at the floor below your bike rather than where you are going and almost ran over it. Lots of swerving involved. Legs, hips and about 6 or 7 vertebrae.

They don’t work with my htc hero, so doubt they will work. The light from the screens is polarized so you have to have it at the right angle to see anything and even then you may get some very odd colours and weird things happening.
