re sore fingertips guys i use my triceps muscle area for blood testing…saw it on a patient info leaflet years ago (yes i actually read those things!)as was sick of the soreness/inflamation and was worried about infection when out on bike, cycling jerseys are just long enough to keep the area mud free and it honestly never hurts! current mrs is a a nurse (ex diabetic specialist)who now advises patients to try it after seeing me do it

one point as a new diabetic you get a honeymoon period where you can get some insulin production for a while so be prepared for ratios to change etc

spotting hypos is generally straightforwards… pale face, profuse sweating, dazed or confused through to proper mardiness! if in doubt eat first check later!

jelly babies are mostly glucose syrup we talk about blood sugars but its actually blood glucose we monitor so the fastest acting sugar type is glucose. 5 mins after eating them then get some longer acting carbs in cereal bars etc all work well.

its ok really fella…im 5 yrs into it now and manage it pretty well! DAFNE is pretty good but none of the medical proffessionals ive met in North Wales seem that clued up so do your own research too. he will have good days and bad days(when there seems no logic to sugar levels)once he sorts the ratios of insulin to carbs its easy…buy a good digital scales to weigh what he eats and get him calculating carb contents of food now…becomes second nature! if you want to ask more get in touch! ps buy some jelly babies and make sure he always carries 6 of them….ignore the earlier advice re long acting carbs when you need sugar as a diabetic you NEED SUGAR NOW!

Hi Bushwhacked this is driving me nuts too, googling gives massively conflicting views, our 12 week old border collie had 3 max length (5mins per month) walks yesterday and was still running round the garden like a loon herding the guineau pigs! local farming types looked at me daft when I mentioned this restriction, apparently 70miles in a working day is doable when she’s older!

Best advice was watch her on longer walks in case she starts flagging then carry her home, not happened yet!

all this is on soft woodland MTB cheeky trails best start her early

Simply put is there any possibility he can afford £3k to insure it? (in one lump if he’s 17 no DD till18!) if the answer is no then he has to be stopped, more he gets away with it the longer the road trips will get…. everyone crashes eventually at that age!

reading this with great interest as we have a pup arriving on monday, mrs has had a bc before but I have zero doggy experience, is it easy to train one to run/ride with me? run xc loops of around an hour, mtb up to about 4hrs…. obviously won’t be expecting her to do these at 8 weeks  mrs runs too so with kids walking her exercise shouldnt be a problem! oh and the family have one left if anyone in N Wales is after one!

Sell them by the bucketful here, loads for the comuter market as well as the traditional riders who want to train or race on them… we don’t have any problems with them

First time for me 12hr team of 4 ended up 7th in old gits so did a fair bit of passing and being passed, I always tell people that I’d like to overtake them when it’s safe, no issues at all people were great, I always thanked, and usually told them they were a star or similar…. mate woke on Sunday with a tick on his leg, we nuked it with alcohol hand sanitizer and tweezered it out, when we got back to N Wales he had a bath and found another on his Knob 8O, nurse in A&E told him he needed to be erect so she had something to lever against! he opted for taking his tick removing tool home and sorting it there!… so maybe worth checking yourselves guys!

Definately on my list of avoids (which is Poshbkes, Silverfish, CRC, Pronghorn, FSA, Continental, Windwave, Pace)

Windwave… these guys are flipping awesome, replaced a battered FSA carbon LH crank after 3.5 yrs with a whole crankset inc rings and BB!

Just done the same for a mate… even though it came from On One and Windwave didn’t even import it!

Don’t think the RFU make the calls on where games are played? Think it’s Rugby World Cup Ltd (or whatever the organisers are called)

Of the SH teams to face Aus would have been my choice, and the Welsh record against England hasn’t been too shabby of late so I think the draw could have been worse!

Orchard Gold is gorgeous…Firey Fox is like freshly squeezed apple juice… but makes your legs stop working…. especially good when its a post ride guest pint at the Kinmel Arms also like Henneys and that Westons Organic does reduce hangovers… a :wink:bit

Same thing happened to my Dad’s FSA K-Force carbon cranks. Anyone had any success getting them repaired?

Bang an email off to windwave…I got a brand new set of cranks, bb and rings after mine came loose after 3 years use…fantastic customer service

Mate had the same with a set of lightly used RF ones…wasn’t as happy an ending sorry!

I’ve done a REC 2 day course tailored for MTBing, we got told you need to make a 3 way connection

1 is this (epipen, inhaler, GTN spray etc) yours?
    2 do you need it?
3 do you want me to administer it/ help you use it?

In my first aid kit I have aspirin for heart attacks and a ventolin inhaler both “belong to Fred” but I’d give em to any Tom,Dick or Harry in an emergency

Mr Tall I’ve got a mate who’s exactly the same, type 1 diagnosed a yr ago recently come off insulin all together…. consultants have no idea why!

Qwerty in 3 yrs maybe 1 or 2 hypos’s have crept up on me…rest of the time I know its coming long before drivings a worry! always keep my sugars higher when driving…excuse for a few sweets!
    re pumps…

they can be removed for up to an hour with no ill effects so unless you are a pron star shouldn’t be an issue

an hour…that’s just warming up  you still have the tube hanging out? or just the port on my skin would send my mrs squeamish!

Don’t think he looks like a golfer … more like a cross between a bouncer and a Budhist monk

Had a session with him on saturday, really sorted out this old skool- wheels on the ground – XC Jey boy :D

Made me look at a lot of things differently, not just my riding, I’m my biggest critic and usually cynical as f$$k about people who get that much praise lavished upon them but in Tony’s case it’s definitely deserved

wholeheartedly recommend his coaching and fancy going back for another session just to refine what I learnt

Got a 52 plate A4 tdi with 243k miles…it’s never let me down!

Bought it with 110K and only had to put a clutch in it at 224K

Uses a lot of bulbs tho if I have to criticise something… I’d buy another tomorrow

Op sorry to hear that, I didn’t have any issues with driving when first diagnosed and nearly 3 yrs into the whole Type 1 experience have yet to need any assistance with a hypo, your mate will soon get to recognise the signs he’s going low and treat accordingly (start packing jelly babies)

regarding pumps my consultant reckons he’s targetted to get 10% of his patients on them, don’t fancy one myself as it’ll just give the mrs another excuse for not getting frisky

Helping the wider economy is great BUT how much does the pub give towards the trails your riding ?

Oh I think they are getting by ok up there, probably doing a lot better than most places in N Wales!

Pay and displays gone now, we tend to park in the pub on week nights, no pressure to be back by a set time and BOGOF deals on meals are good!

Plus a post ride beer helps the wider local economy

Still wonder what would have happened if he hadn’t been quite so loyal to Wiggins last year, could he have won?

Sources close to Wiggo reckon if he’d been more loyal Brad would have won!

    .

I also think that there’s more to Froome’s interview in L’Équipe – ITV4 were insinuating that context may have been lost in the translation

Nah he’s a bit of a loose cannon advertising himself for a team leaders role for next season

He wasn’t a good support for Brad in the Vuelta last yr either, think DB kept him in the team to keep anyone else from having him!

    whytetrash

right now he’s doing nothing for the team

Apart from carrying bidons, jackets, taking long turns on the front and not stabbing Brad in the back like that tosser Froome

I’m dissapointed at his lack of stage wins but impressed with his humility, think he may get his reward in the Olympics…and next year’s green Jersey

Unions a boring, out of date, winter sport played by toffs

Go to any Rugby club in any village in Wales and find a Toff…. may take you a while… and you’ll need to park the whippets up outside

yep nukeproof comes with all the gubbins to swap to both, bit of a PITA to get bearings so order some from BETD if you buy one, odd size not stocked by your usual local bearing suppliers 15-26-8 from memory
