I thought the truflo one sucked. I kept losing gas while screwing it on. The innovations ultraflate is pretty good and the plastic cover stops your hand freezing to the cartridge :)

You used to be able to drag a tab anywhere outside FF to create a shortcut. But that stopped working recently (in FF3?), so you need an add-on to make it work. Search for "bug489729"

Bit bulky for a helmet mount (but I'm gonna try it this week anyway), but fine on the bars. Get yourself some decent AA batteries from Directfoto or somewhere.

Only thing is there's no warning before the batteries run out, so you need a backup light really.

Great service from Wheelpro, but they'll cost you more. My Pro3-SP6 on 355s have been excellent.

No problems with superstar sintered ones for me this year – and they lasted for ~6 months after. I did take 4 extra pairs to be on the safe side though!

Great boots, with a good stiff sole. I take a 48 in Shimano, but got away with a 47 in the Celsius.

I've used both m540 and m520. M540 bearings and axle seem a lot better. And don't touch Ritchey pedals with a barge pole…

My old LX SPDs from 1997 are still going strong, used almost every day :-)

John Lewis do one that can show iplayer (and other channels' versions of iplayer) via your wifi connection. Fetch TV I think it's called. No experience of using it, tho.

May as well get Panaracer Razer instead of Racing Ralph? Cheaper, and similar idea. I've run one on the back for most of this year, and rate it.

I use Halfords LHM in my XTs, with no issues at all. It's green in colour. There's no "+" on the label, though…

You can open up the cartridge – it's a left-hand thread. So turn the red cartridge bit clockwise and it comes off the top cap. I had to take mine apart to fix an oil leak from the top cap…

Northwave Celsius boots have done 2 winters with me now, with no issues at all.

I always add some talc when changing tubes/tyres, and never had the problem you describe. Baby talc is nice and cheap – just sling a bit in and coat the whole inside of the tyre.

I’m thinking about getting this combo as well. Looks light for the price, and comes with rotors, but has weight limit of 85kg according to Hope? If you get the setup from Wheelpro, you get the rim strip and valve fitted free for tubeless. I’m sticking with tubes though, ‘cos I like to swap tyres.

Did you folks that ordered get a confirmation email? I ordered a box, but haven’t heard a peep since Friday morning…

Check the quality of the anodising on the pistons. My XTs had discoloured anodising for the first few mm and it caused them to be sticky when new pads were used. But I’d run them for 4 years. They were fine a bit further into their “travel”.

    @Brycey:

Someone in the coach queue was saying that Cathro had 2 crashes, and on the second one dislocated his ankle. Someone at the trackside popped it back in for him, apparently – ouch!

Man, that sucks that the wall is gone. Full-sus had a nice advantage there – I remember riding SXC over the wall with hardtail riders falling off either side and the full-sus just soaking the lot up :)

TF Tuned will sort you out with the right ones – they did for my Swinger 3-way. They also sell a tool for replacing the bushings that makes the job much easier.

    DON’T USE SHAREPOINT
Horrendous coming from a (T)Wiki. Much of the stuff’s stored as Word or Excel docs. A real pain to edit and format.

We just moved to Sh**epoint 2007, and it looks slightly better in terms of features, but still gash compared to a Wiki, for collaboration purposes.

We noticed an incredible drop in people updating help pages and “how-to” guides after we moved from Twiki to Sharepoint. They just couldn’t be arsed opening up Word every time, or using the crap rich-text editor.

Tokyo has many, many parks and nice they are too.

I was there for a couple of days in November on the way to NZ and met up with a colleague (Japanese speaker) who gave us a wee tour. Emperor’s Palace gardens, a very open park where tons of locals were playing sports, picnicing, etc. and another (densely-wooded) park with a huge shrine. Can’t remember names, sorry. Lots of interesting shrines and small gardens to check out.

I found Tokyo to be much less mad than I expected (after seeing movies and TV show), and the folk were friendly, even if you did just point at things on menus and indicate the quantity! Some simple phrases (please, thanks, hello) go a long way. Subway was easy to use (altho there apparently still some stations with no English signage) and 99% of road signs had English+Japanese on them.

I’m keen to go back…and see more of the country.
