I use Polaris quartz maybe? Fit well, good for the longer of leg.

    Ok.

Thanks for all the advice. Plenty to think on and chew over.

Much appreciated, particularly the bit about being rich, happy and irresistible!

    Cheers

To put a spanner in the works, I recently got a Cannondale CAADX Sora for the £700 mark.

Brilliant bike. Really well specced, and worth a look?

Both look great, but I would be planning to take it off-road, so I think I’m stilling looking at cross bikes. Which is annoying because the spec is much better on both!

Just for general riding around, with touring aspirations really. Not particularly after anything flash and carbon, and I’ve no aspirations to ever take up CX racing. It just looks painful!

It’s the light blue version with Sora shifters.

Ah yes! I’d forgotten I’d done those. There’s also a video of the Cefn Du descent on Vimeo as well.

    Thanks!

That’s great, thanks a lot. I’ll email you about the downhill course. I’m pretty certain it’s ok (it’s fairly well established…) but I’m not completely sure!

    Rusty,

There’s a pretty good descent across the road between Deiniolen to Mynydd Llandegai (about halfway along?) around the flank of Moel Y Ci above Rachub to the bottom of the DH course. Is that the bit you mean in the route from Bus Stop?

If you wanted to make it longer, you could ride along the cycle path down the lake towards Brynrefail, then take the Fachwen road up to Deiniolen/Dinorwig, and do the descent down through the slate quarries into Nant Peris, and back into Llanberis? That would add roughly an hour?

    Hello,

You could ride from Llanberis, up the road (the turning by the Joe Brown’s corner shop) past the old peoples home to Cefn Du (nice fast bridleway descent. Not so sure about going up it though!) then onto Moel Eilio, across the tops, and down Telegraph Valley to finish?

I think that would take about 4 hours?

Think I may have a map of it somewhere. I’ll dig it out if you’re interested?

I use Tesco – the trucks that come out are RAC, and it’s a fair bit cheaper than paying for RAC cover.

And it was recommended by someone who works for the RAC…

    As mentioned, phenomenal for hangovers.

Depends on how I’m feeling. Sometimes, I’ll have one before I go riding (depending on how much I’ve had to drink the night before) and sometimes I’ll pop one in a couple of litres of water if I’m going out for >2hrs. Less than that, and I’d rather use squash. Bit cheaper…

Born between Ross and Gloucester. Left for Uni in Bangor. Never went back. Job prospects and lack of facilities are terrible, but the area more than makes up for it.

Ourmaninthenorth – It’s a grey medium bag. Fits under a saddle ok. Been dragged around a lot of places without any falling apart issues… All still together and intact!

I use a Lezyne one for commuting and occasional mtb. Bombproof so far, and I’ve had it for about 4 months with no issues. Fits tube, levers, gel and small rear light.

    Tobias….

Known since I was born as Toby though. If my Dad had got his way, I’d be Boris. A relatively lucky escape I think.

Quite unusual, and combined with my surname, is pretty unique I think.

Hated it for years, and certainly wouldn’t name any offspring anything as obvious. Quite nice now I’m a bit older though.

    6ft 3 (34inch inside leg)

I used to ride a 16″ trailstar, so I’m pretty comfortable on smaller frames…

    Friend who is 6ft 4 rides a 20″ 456.

Currently running the Plasma guide. Cheap, easy to set, and seemingly bombproof. Brilliant piece of kit.

I’ve got one, and it’s awesome. Got it built up as a bit of a do anything frame.

    Apologies for the bad photo…..

That makes sense. I thought something had gone wrong with my front brake (pre 06 deore) when it pissed oil all over the floor through the piston. Hasn’t affected the rear brake of the same vintage though. Will a rebleed fix the issue, or do I need to think about looking at a new front brake….?
