Theyv’e been fined previously for similar offences I think, so the trotting out of the most disgusting phrase in the english language ‘We will learn from our mistakes’ is as meaningful as the wazz I just had

I was there yesterday for the first time in ages. £9 parking/visiting fee. Trails have a couple of minor puddles here and there, red route takes around 2 hours (20ish miles) plenty of escape routes, quite a few drops and rocky bits, couple of short low boardwalks, but if I can do it on my 3×9 26er at 49 then so can you. I bust a spoke and buckled a back wheel thats my rad credentials renewed for another decade.

There is a site on the A66 not far from Scotch Corner called Thorpe Farm. About 10 miles from the A1 junction, it has a pub and a walk to it in Greta Bridge. Though this might be a bit of a short journey from the Lakes.

    All of the above.

What with neck stretching, back stretching and red rubber band thingy stretching for my shoulder it takes me an hour to get ready before getting out for a ride nowadays.

From the roundabout thats a fairly long straight-ish stretch before the turn off toward the station, heading east as well so no sun in his eyes whatsoever.

Is it worth getting an LBS to do a replacement value assessment to present to his insurer? I wouldn’t take any chances with a broken carbon frame or the next ride it could be worse for you.

I’d love to think thats his appearance on a bike round here might prompt the local authorities to do something about the tin of white paint excuse for cycle lanes around here but it never works when the ToB comes around so I doubt they will bat an eyelid.

In other news he’s been up for a week or so filming around the area for the next Indiana Jones, some are saying its a Cinelli.

Road miles all weekend really, big day in Northumberland on Saturday and then a run down the coast today, no pics from the coastal run suffice to say everyone had gone to the beach and the roads were horrendous, virtually nose to tail from Sunderland to South Shields.

I’ve only gone over 100km once before so I’m sharing your pain and elation as I did 101km on Saturday.
I do similar with my Arkose, a set of mavic road wheels and a set of hunt gravel for off road. Some achievement to do it on the grabby tyres though, every time I see your Sonder I fall in love with the colour a little bit more just lovely to look at.

The estate I live on had seen prices stall for around 10 years until a few weeks ago when a builder did a renovation on a house 10 doors away over the course of the last 6 months and put it up for £250k it sold inside 3 weeks for the asking price. Up until that point all 3 bed semis with good gardens, garage & drive were no more than £199k.

Now they are going up for anything between £220-250k and are gone in a week, blink and you miss it. Absolutely ridiculous.

My neighbours kid and her boyfriend just bought their first house for £325k, plenty help from the parents and a 40yr term. I’d be in tears paying that

I’d been working in Liverpool at the Uni and I had managed to wangle the afternoon free for a couple of laps of Gisburn on the way back North East, and get this it was dry and sunny unlike the three other times I had visited.

Feeling rather happy with myself I unloaded the bike from the van to remember that I’d been a good boy and cleaned the whole bike at home days before and fitted new brake pads…….at least I thought I had fitted them staring into the abyss of two empty….I can’t even type.

Years ago on my XC hardtail with V-brakes (probs 2002) I was heading through South West Scotland working and visited Mabie, it was throwing it down from the heavens but I wasn’t to be put off and turned to find that my waterproof was in fact my waterproof work 3/4 jacket. That was enough for me and so donning an oversize waterproof that literally brushed your ankles on the pedal strokes I took off through the woods like a dude.

Just this morning my good lady decided to take the dog out for a walk and locked herself in the porch, she hadn’t took a key because I was home and standing in the shower listening to her yell through the letterbox. She then thought to herself thats ok the back door is open I can come back in and get the key only to find that yes the door was still locked and apparently her brain was somewhere else as well.

I tried typing this on my phone but it just freezes up.

So, not me but my OH’s uncle was quite the young man about town in that there London back when it was swinging and hip and all that on the gay scene. One morning he was awoken by some persistent banging on his front door.
Two plain clothes officers are stood looking anxious and asked him his name and for ID to prove it, when he showed them one dropped to his knees on the doorstep in relief and the other started chugging cigarettes for fun.
They’d gone through Neilson’s house the day before and found a list with his name on it, one of a few that wasn’t scribbled out.

He’s got plenty great stories of life in London as young fella but no others about dodging murderers.

Quite often if you sign up to breweries newsletter via email you will get a heads up on % savings or free delivery deals. Last year in particular a great many were putting out deals to keep people working and drinking.

Because many smaller brewers only brew in small batches, if stuff doesn’t move quickly they might move it on at a discount.

A place local to me has a monthly deals email that gets you 2 mini kegs for £36, some places do monthly beer clubs.

Just got to go looking around.

I think tiim puts it better than I tried to, and that’s what I’ll be doing this week at some stage. I’d like a full run as much as possible as a recent crash and the return to using the bike more off-road gravel stuff requires a bit more comfort on the hands.

I was discussing this with my old man yesterday, he says he used to double tape the ends of the drops for extra grip when he was sprinting (this was in the 60-70’s) so I asked about how he did rather than where.
He would strip his bars then just put extra tape in the areas he needed it not the full bar, so he would hold the extra tape in place with a bit of sparky’s tape and then go over the full bar run with tape as normal. So rather than the full bar being double taped just in areas where he need the extra grip or in this case the extra padding.

I’ve read that back and it makes very little sense, but, well, anyway.

Probably another thread altogether, but ‘worst places you’ve stayed in’

In my last job I spent 6 months travelling around Scotland (I know! How bad is that? Have travel will bike) working in pretty much every hospital in the country, a fabulous time visiting fabulous places and meeting wonderful people.

I worked for a big corporate at the time who had a central booking person arranging (most of the time) accomodation for us. From top dig in Dundee and Edinburgh to pubs on the Isle of Skye It was cracking.

And then we got put in a pub in Conon Bridge. At the door to my room the receptionist offered me a key to open the door and in the end she just kicked it open as there was no jam for the lock, I pushed the single bed up against the door overnight, I had carpet in n the toilet and bathroom. My mate Stuart had a shower room with the light switch under the shower head in the bathroom. We all had shared bathrooms with the guys who were working on the Kessock bridge. They rolled in at 3am and left for work at 7am, the bathroom was a treat.

The food however was fantastic, £34 a night.

Folks another great weekend of riding pics and inspiration and it’s only Saturday!!!

Some fantastic images of our wonderful countryside and all that it offers. Great to see so many kids enjoying the sun and their bikes as well.

Hit the road today for a few miles in the sunshine, I’ve been keeping the MTB for after work blasts to clear the head.

    Best thread this year.

Cheese on toast recipes are the finest post ride, post drink session, mid afternoon snack, indeed anytime food winner.

I like a bit of paprika (smoked is good) sprinkled liberally across some cheese and some thinly sliced chorizo. Bread needs to be lightly toasted on one side initially and the other side carries the delicacies.

Like a bit of onion relish or chutney under some nice cheddar.

    I’m hungry.

I have a Hawaii, I built a base for £50 from 50mm 1.2mtr X .45mtr insulation blocks from B&Q and wrapped the whole lot in damp proofing black plastic sheet. Taped it all up with insulation tape and then plonked the tub on top.
I currently have my camper vans Khyam drive away awning parked over the top of it, keeps it private and a little bit more protection from weather.

Just over a year ago we considered moving and the agent came round and said ‘hmm £195k max’ which was at the time a little disappointing given what we had put into it. Anyway last month a house around the corner (exact same) went up for £250k and went in a fortnight, and now they are popping up on our estate for similar amounts. Can’t get my head around the increase, supply and demand I guess but seems a crazy jump.

My daughter rents a house in Clapham with 3 other mates and it costs them £3.3k per month between them.

@montylikesbeer I think your pics need drug testing or something! That’s a ridiculous change of weather from your Friday pics.

Some cracking shots again, the weather has been so dry recently the trails are really looking good. I had the road bike out today for a quick 20miler, nothing much to shout about but I did end up coming back through town via one of my favourite pubs. Looking forward to a beer there when it opens again but I’m not sure I’ll be sitting out in the snow.

Some nice pics as per usual, hopefully out tomorrow but it might be road bike. Spent the last couple of days fettling in the sun/snow. Had a head on pile up with a daydreaming teen on the C2C near Beamish on Wednesday on the CX bike, I’ve got bruises from here to there.
So I decided to spend my time stripping and cleaning the bike, new brake pads, indexing, lubing all the usual stuff. Sadly looks like my nice new Hunt gravel rims need a bit of truing at the front, a Trek HT wasn’t the softest landing I had that day. So, back on the road tomorrow and then MTB during the week. Meantime, glass of red.

I’ve got no idea how many years Ive subscribed, not the whole shebang that’s for sure but probably 12+ out of the twenty. I was around not long after the website launched and have ‘used’ it been part of it and enjoyed it since. I will continue to do so as long as I am able private chat or otherwise. It’s part of the cycling business and cycling community and to exist in both it needs to be a business.
